Daniel Jones is also pure class.

From being there for the ceremony, part of the video packages, effusive in praise... he knows the shoes he has to fill. I think we are lucky that we may have found another gem in Daniel.

Jones is extremely likely NOT going to fill those shoes.

You're talking two Super Bowl MVPs, a retired jersey number, and the Ring of Honor.

Anyone who expects Jones to live up to that standard is very, very likely to be disappointed.

Based on the sheer odds or what? Jones' first year of starting has been more impressive than Eli's, IMO. And he has similar personality traits, work ethic, and brains.

So you think there's a pretty good chance that Jones wins two Super Bowl MVPs, ends up in the New York Giants Ring of Honor, and is the last Giant to wear #8?

Based on what?

Probably not, but it also depends on alot of factors within himself, and outside factors.

If he winds up being a more consistent QB than Eli was in the regular season and if we actually ever fix this OL and defense, we'll at least be a contender for the first time since 2011. If he just wins one championship, him being picked will be more than worth it.

True. I just want Giants fans to be fair to the guy and let him be himself. He's not Eli and never will be. And he doesn't need to live up to Eli's precedent.

Just be the best Daniel Jones he can be. I want him to be around for 10 years. Hopefully, the Giants can manage the roster around him well for the duration of his tenure.

Was younger in his rookie season than Eli’ was in his rookie year - but was more impressive. What’s more, the Giants had to trade for Eli, didn’t have to for DJ, so we go into his second season with all our picks. And can maybe build around him a little faster.

Phil, don't forget they traded away the 3rd rounder this year for LWilliams....not that this is the same price paid for Eli, but still important.
Hopefully they can pull off a trade down with MIA and/or LAC to recoup some picks.

So if the Giants don't win at least two Super Bowls while Jones is the QB, it means that Jones didn't fill Eli's shoes?

What if Jones actually turns out to be a better QB than Eli, but the Giants don't win any championships for the next 10-15 years while he's the QB, because the organization never fixed the OL or the D...or Judge and the head coaches that follow him all turn out to be duds?

Football is not golf or tennis where victory is determined by the performace of just one participant. It's a TEAM game.

Eli deserves a lot of credit for his play during those two championship runs. But he wouldn't have won anything without great support from the rest of the TEAM.

Neither Jones nor any other Giants QB that follows Eli is guaranteed to have that same support in the future. So if we're talking about an individual player filling the shoes of a previous player, maybe we should focus on THEIR performance and not their TEAM'S performance.

Maybe, maybe not. Who had a better rookie year?

Eli did win two super bowls but don’t forget, he won them with two great defenses (holding Patriots to 17 is amazing). So, if you get DJ a great defense i feel pretty good DJ can win 2 Super Bowls too. In other words, I feel DJ is another Eli and hopefully for us, an upgrade. Only time will tell.
DJ will be fine ...

I’m anxious to see if he comes back to Duke in the spring to work with Cutcliffe just like a Eli did.

set him apart from other QBs
From todays articles:
“Countless games (offensive coordinator) Kevin Gilbride would come to me on the sideline, he was, ‘What was that?’ I was like, ‘No. 10 told me to run the out,’ ” Burress said..
DJ gives me the impression that he is capable of living up to that model in a few years.

Even Eli Manning couldn't replicate it. But I hope Jones makes his own legacy.

Hey look.... One can dream. Favre/Rodgers.... Montana/Young, Manning/Jones....

And mental makeup, Daniel Jones is exactly the type of person you want to replace Eli Manning. He will have big shoes to fill but he won’t try to be Eli. Jones will remain his own man and continue to work as he has his entire life. I look forward to 12+ years of Jones and hopefully we are as grateful to him as we are for Eli.

Half the enjoyment of being a fan of a team is allowing a small part of yourself to dream a little about the possibilities, to just imagine, “what if ...?”

Is it likely, odds are no, but is it possible? Anything is possible and just what if he does? Odds were Young wouldn’t have have been so good right after them having Montana, or Rodgers ending up better than Farve. It does happen where teams do hit lightning in a bottle with back to back qb’s.

Don’t be such a wet blanket.
