For a team with such a long history, the Giants are quite selective at this. Hall of Famers get their numbers retired. No one has ever been assigned No. 92 since Michael Strahan last wore it in 2007, but the Giants have never announced that number has been retired. Strahan was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014. “It’s retired,’’ Mara said. Officially? “Not yet,’’ Mara said. “We’ll do Michael’s announcement another day, but Eli’s will be retired.’’ |
Happy for Strahan though.
Lets hope they run out.
i'd have retired Carson first. he set the tone for the next 30 years
Happy for Strahan though.
At the current rate, this is only an issue if the team lasts another 100 to 200 years.
Happy for Strahan though.
Kind of defeats the point of retiring it in the first place
IMO it would be awful for a team to unretire a number after promising a player that it will never be worn again.
Just very selective and use the Ring of Honor accept for the most special cases
None of us will have to worry about that.
I think Carson was great, a HOF LB, one of my favorites but my point is we really don’t know all that goes into making the decision and while I would welcome if they did do it, I don’t mind that they fall on the side of being ultra exclusive in bestowing that honor. There will always be players border line deserving wherever they draw the line, that’s what makes rising above that such an honor
Unless the NFL stretches the numbers worn by position??
It would be nice to retire 53, but you are way too angry about. I doubt Carson is all that upset.
The internet is annoying.
Who would take 4Q?

Happy for Strahan though.
Eli and Strahan deserve it. That's it for the moment though. No one's asking for anything more. It would have to be at least another 15 years before we even consider retiring another one (AT LEAST), so I wouldn't worry about it just yet. Ultimately there are only 53 guys on the team each year, let them figure out what jersey # they can wear, we're not going to "run out" any time soon.
