Depth Chart for the Hall of Very Good

widmerseyebrow : 1/25/2020 12:43 pm
All this talk about whether Eli is deserving of the Hall (he is) got me wondering about the best players who definitely or probably will not get in.

Just to start:
QB - Simms, Bledsoe, McNabb
...

Banks.
Tony Romo
DanBenton : 1/25/2020 12:49 pm : link
Tiki Barber
Bavaro

Jim Plunkett - He should be in

I left Romo out because I think he gets in, even with the horrendous postseason record.
If Romo gets in

It’s as an announcer. Choke artist.
OBJ

Was special for a few years.
Carl Banks Should Be In,
clatterbuck : 1/25/2020 2:25 pm : link
but he's another hostage to anti-New York bias.

I think it's less that and more that some people (not me) believe he was a product of a defense that featured Lawrence Taylor.
Banks, Bavaro & Simms

were all HOF players. That's why the Giants were able to kick Gibbs and Walshs' ass from 1985-1990. They were all overshadowed by LT but also guys that were 100% team and totally unselfish that's what kept them out.
cliff branch

belongs in the hall
What I've noticed is that QBs either get in pretty quick
ron mexico : 1/25/2020 2:55 pm : link
or never get far in the process. There are no QBs on the current list of finalists. In fact, in the past decade there has not been a QB that made the finalist list that didn't eventually get in.

Eli will get in and it will be within three years.
I always thought the broadcasting would eventually
jcn56 : 1/25/2020 2:57 pm : link
get Simms in, but that's obviously not going to be the case. He certainly didn't have the stats for it, but the offense he was in and the surrounding talent didn't exactly do him any favors.
Tiki should be in
Dave on the UWS : 1/25/2020 3:48 pm : link
He has better stats than many. He was also dominant for several years. Considering the avg career length of most RB, his 2000 to 2006 were top notch.
If Tiki
Gman11 : 1/25/2020 4:40 pm : link
didn't piss off Giants fans with his comments, I doubt that there would be a Giants fan anywhere that didn't think he belongs. He belongs in the Hall.
Tiki

Deserves to be in the HOF. Only 3 players have 10,000+ rushing yds and 5,000+ receiving yds. Marcus Allen and Marshall Faulk are two of them and are already in - Tiki is the other one.

If that's true how do you explain Harry Carson?
Took Carson a long time to get in
giants#1 : 1/25/2020 5:29 pm : link
And Banks is viewed as the 3rd best LB on those units.
Tikis hurt by low TD totals

And a relatively short career, especially as the feature back. Probably lost 25-30 TDs between Dayne and Jacobs, not that the former was very good in those situations, but he still got plenty of opportunities.

Such a peculiar career. I maintain luck is a huge factor in success or failure for NFL players. Plunkett was unlucky early, lucky late.
