if burrow goes 1. its fair top take jones over the rest of the group...sure.
that being said, just "waiting" until next year rarely works out. i said this to the wait til 2020 qb group crowd. ALOT CAN CHANGE IN A YEAR and it DID....the class isnt as strong as it appeared a year ago today IMO.
tua is a major injury concern, fromm looked average, love is raw and needs developing, herbert is still a question mark even though he was solid this week. burrow is the only sure thing in this group IMO
the Giants found their franchise quarterback and he got a good season under his belt. Hopefully, Jones continues to progress and can flourish under a new coaching staff dedicated to strengthening both lines of scrimmage...
3 QBs are going to go in the top 5. Burrow is a lock at #1, barring something unforeseen occurring between now and draft time (injury, some character issue surfacing, etc.).
Tua suffered a major, major injury and is still a virtual lock to be drafted in the top 4. By all accounts, Herbert helped himself tremendously this week, and QBs are almost always overdrafted. For a 6'6" QB with a cannon arm who was discussed as a possible first overall pick this season (as of last year), he will ascend up the draft board pretty quickly.
Whether you want to knock Gettleman for selecting Jones is one thing, but he was absolutely right drafting Jones at 6 if that is the guy who you identify as a franchise QB. You don't play around, wait until 17, and then watch as a team leapfrogs you for the guy. And history tells you that if you want a QB in the first round, you are going to have to trade up to get him. Last year was a complete anomaly. But in the 2016-2018 drafts, I believe 11 of 12 first round QBs were acquired via trade up, with the lone exception being Baker Mayfield, who was drafted by the Browns who already had the first pick and did not need to move up.
This season, there are a lot of teams in the market for a young QB to groom. Burrow is going 1 and Young is going 2, because I'd be shocked if Snyder permits his staff to do anything but draft Young. This is the same owner who said no to virtually the entire coaching staff that preferred Jones to Haskins. Whether the Lions want Tua for themselves to groom or trade the pick, Herbert will still be around. And if the Lions pick Tua, for example, you have teams seeking to leapfrog Miami to get Herbert. If the Lions trade down to Miami or otherwise, the Giants will be getting a slew of calls from teams looking to move up for Herbert.

Never a good strategy.
