I think a player like Engram needs to play under this Coaching Staff. He may reach his potential under coaches who will teach him better than the old staff...
what has he ever done besides get hurt every other game ? One big play per season and then right back to IR. He is a tweener that is always hurt. Pass. Enough with this guy already.
Whether we keep him or trade him is another story. He has value and would command a lot on the open market. you have to use your assets to the team advantage. Lame duck status lowers his trade value except if you are trading him to the Giants...lol. I think having the 5th year gives him a lot of value on the trade market if the team decides he is not in the plans. If he has a great year and he is untendered he will command a ton in FA and we will lose him for nothing.
All the same theme. One person's opinion of whether he should be extended, traded or let him play out his contract.
The reality is that no one will give a premium pick for him. Maybe a 4th rounder. If he could prove that he can stay on the field, he is worth more than that.
So do you keep him for 4 years or 5 years before letting him test free agency. I say 4 because you are basically in the same situation either way. Prove it this year or get out of here.

This is last years numbers to get a jist. I never would have thought that a TE would be lowest paid beside K/P.

Agreed. Speed and athleticism don’t really help when you can’t stay on the field. At this point Engram is like a slightly better Travis Beckum.
It's a no-brainer to exercise the 5th year option. Because of his relatively low 1st round pick, and the position, the option would effectively put him on a ~2/11M contract.
That's an incredibly attractive contract to shop a player whose injuries have been frustrating, but not career threatening.
Curious to know where you came up with those numbers. Engram is making 1.9 mil this year with a 3.4 mil cap hit. I am seeing his projected 5th year option at 6 mil. He should be finished with guaranteed money. Please inform if I missed something. Thanks

You're right, the cost is closer to 10M over the next 2 years if the optioned is picked up.
My point is the effective cost to control Engram over the next 2 years is quite low.
Henry has the length and weight to be a traditional TE. In addition, he has enough speed to threaten the seam, but in absolute terms he is not a scary speed matchup.
Unless the plan was to reinvent his body structure, EE was always going to be an H-back/non-end of oline type. He also has true upper echelon speed, even if considered a WR. He is a scary speed matchup for all but CBs and a few fast Ss.
Henry would get more $$$ on the FA market b/c he's more of a two-way TE OR do you think EE is going to get paid more due to his speed and pass catching ability?

but he will next year.
I'm going to go ahead and assume that the Giants use the option this year and then EE hits the market next year.
My original premise was the the Giants should watch how much attention Henry gets this offseason to see what the market is for an oft-injured TE with tons of upside and promise.
Is Evan Engram Worthy Of Being Tendered?
Is Evan Engram Worthy Of Being Tendered?
Or, Angus could be tendered... then cooked over an open fire..
In other words, it's happening.
Availability over Ability is one of my favorites
Baaaahahahaha!! Awesome, I needed that laugh! You rock!

Ha Ha! That's a post with some sizzle.

Playing a full season has been rare. As for this thread...well done, Angus.

I thought it was an A-1 post, myself.

He's a WR; Giants do't agree, that's fine.
For his and the team's sake, I hope they can trade him and get good value.
Deadline is May 4th.

Maybe Judge and Garrett can look at some Pats film when they had Hernandez and Gronk. Hopefully they can use EE with Smith in the same manor
Com'on quit all this grilling!

Do the Giants have to pick up his 5th year option? I know it’s sometime this offseason, but by when exactly?
Deadline is May 4th.
Thanks. Hard decision looming.

I'm hoping he is traded at draft time. He should be healed up by then (4 months removed from surgery). Let the new team make the decision.

Yeah, it's time to let it rest.
Very similar players. It'll be interesting what the market pays him.

Similar players? The only similarity is that they've both been plagued by injuries.
Hunter Henry
6-5 250lbs
136 rec 1709 yrds 17 TDS pick #35 in the draft
Evan Engram
6-3 240 lbs
153 rec 1766 yrds 12 TDS pick #23 in the draft
Both have serious injury concerns....
I think they're very comparable players.
Then your memory is faulty, because Henry is one of the better blocking TE's in the league.
Also, another big difference is speed. Engram ran a 4.42 at the Combine. Henry ran a 4.67.
Engram isn't a free agent this year.

Actually, I think Kaden Smith played himself into more playing time...I think that guy could be legit.
