FWIW, No NYG Run/Pass Game Coordinators...

V.I.G. : 2/5/2020 3:01 pm
about a third of the teams have someone with that title.
-7 of those teams made the playoffs
-3 others are new staffs...

Belichick doesn't have anyone with that designation so maybe not so surprising that JJ didn't lean that way.

the 13 teams that have those coordinators 6 made the playoffs. You likely double counted SF.

Not sure that indicates anything other than a preference of the HC to utilize one.

To state it another way - more than half the teams who have those coordinators missed the playoffs.
SF the only team

with both run & pass coordinators for Offense and Defense.

you're right

6 made the playoffs, 6 are new or 2nd year staffs.

just seems like a trend, that's all

6 of the 12 playoff teams had them.

4 (CAR/CLE staffs are new) of the 20 teams that missed the playoffs had them.

But aside from SF, even the teams that do have them, typically only have 1-2 and usually just on one side of the ball.
Meaningless titles

and not at all a worthwhile datapoint to consider w/r/t correlation with making the playoffs
aren't the run/pass game coordinators

just a BS loophole around the NFL rule that you can't poach other teams assistant coaches unless they are getting a promotion with the new team?

Suddenly run/pass coordinators became a thing as the additional title for the coach.

I'm not sure - when you think of a guy like Rick Dennison (MIN Run game coordinator/offensive line) and watch how well their TEs and WRs also block, there may be more 'coordination' - but honestly don't know.
Any word on
crick n NC : 2/5/2020 3:58 pm : link
Any False Start coordinators?

Perhaps a Defensive Holding coordinator that specializes in preventing defensive holding on 3rd and 4th downs longer than fifteen yards.

I also wouldn't mind seeing a Kick out of Bounds coordinator
And lastly an End Zone celebration coordinator
We could have used a Challenge Coordinator

There is no BS loophole (it was closed more than a decade ago). Teams need permission to interview any assistant coach already contract for anything other than a head coaching permission.
This may be a stupid question

But does a passing game coordinator work on the passing game of the offense or defense?
Maybe that's
Pete in MD : 2/6/2020 9:02 am : link
why they always looked so...wait for it...uncoordinated.

The Giants also didn't designate quality control coaches the past few seasons. Obviously responsible for the lack of quality.

Depends on the team/coach. Most passing/running game coordinators also coach a position group. So if you are the DB coach/passing game coordinator, then you're coordinating the passing D.

If Kitchens had been given the title in addition to TEs coach, then it'd be for the offensive side.
I was under the impression that they
ron mexico : 2/6/2020 9:28 am : link
were crossing the aisle, so to speak.

For example, you have a DB coach who is an expert in secondary coverages who helps the OC put together his passing attack to exploit those coverages.

But I'm probably wrong.
