The level of play seems like Division II football. Passes are short, off target and floating. Defenses are looking slow. It is going to be a league that will have to rely on gimmicks, and I don't see that holding people's attention.

I'm hoping Gilbride hits someone with a chair tomorrow.
Jim Zorn is covering his mouth when he calls in plays, Â
Well along these lines a player after getting a personal foul called on him. He said fucking and the censor, hand on the mute button, was late. You heard fucking, and then about 5 seconds of silence before they turned the sound back on.
That being said, since the only sport I watch is football, at least it's something. The play caller, QB, refs, and even the replay booth is mic'd up. You can even tell that the play caller could be heard over the loudspeaker at the stadium.
I'm not sure how you can play a game when the defense knows what play you are running but that's what they appear to be doing. Still, I have to admit it's kind of interesting. Hearing the play caller fumble around his words is kinda funny but it also makes if seem, less professional. I kinda like the under the hood feel to it but I imagine that feeling won't last long.

Weren't you all gung-ho for the AFF. What's the huge difference between the AFF which was underfunded and destined to fail and the XFL who has Vince McMahon money bags backing it?

So don't watch it. We'll try and get along without your astute commentary.
Im at least somewhat familiar with some of the players either through their NFL stints or college. Crowd seems in to it, like a few of the wrinkles. Not the NFL, but im a huge CFB fan, and thats not the NFL either.
I think some people decided they were gonna hate this product before they ever saw a snap, and thats just how it is. Then again some people pretty much seem to just hate EVERYTHING:).
Which really means I need to decide the basis upon which I decide which team root for. I think it'll either be the LA team (because I live here) or the NY team (because I grew up there).
I don't want to make it about which team is actually better than the other - that's just lame. But I'm looking for a sign from the heavens as to which should be my team.
Bad football but I am going to give it some time before I really jump in and start paying attention to it. I went full in support for the AFL only to see them not even finish the season.
was watching it. I won't. The only thing they'll have in common with the NFL is the showboating. A guy drops three passes then does a little dance when he gets a first down. A db is ten yards from the receiver then does a little celebration when the receiver drops the pass like he did something special. It all the things I dislike about the NFL without the level of play. Good luck to them.
I watched most of the 2 games yesterday, and as a NJ resident Â
I will embrace the Guardians as "my XFL team". I saw good good & bad in yesterday's games,as one would expect from a fledgling league in their first week of startup. Walker, the former Temple QB,on Houston, was a standout & a prototype to the type of mobile QB the NFL is now embracing.Their opponent, the LA Wildcats, had a 26 year old Princeton QB (Kanoff?SP) who was beyond horrible (Josh Johnson is their starter, out with groin pull) & with them being miked up,was constantly critical of his WRS when the reality was,he just sucked (and so did his OLine w/#70 doing more "watchout" blocks then I've seen in a while). Their KO rule seems to be something the NFL could adopt & its' point after option of 1,2 or 3 points makes the game more interesting. Looking forward to watching the Guardians game at 2:00 on FOX.
but I hope it does well. It will never be a threat to the NFL but if they are able to do a few things better it could make things interesting as far as image is concerned. The NFL has gotten really lazy with rules, and constantly send mixed message about safety. XFL is basically putting it all out on the table might get some interesting data by seasons end.

but with the sound off. I have 3 tvs in hangout room, but I let little man watch Mickey on the big tv as I watched on one of the 32" ones. I liked what I saw, but I missed out on the mic'd up stuff. I don't think that'll interest me much past the first couple games. Other than punting, the new rules are interesting and not crazy (like the old fight for the ball "coin toss")
and said the overall experience is much better than an NFL game. He said they do a much better job with entertaining in between gameplay, there’s no lines because the attendance is smaller which means getting there and leaving is also easier. Not to mention more affordable.
Sounds like live entertainment is at a premium where it just isn’t in the NFL. NFL is a much better at home experience while XFL is likely the opposite. Will be interesting to see the ratings and how they do over the long haul.

I was completely against the AFF as well. Putting mediocre football out there just isn't appealing. I predicted the AFF would last a season. I was wrong!
It's like expecting the D-League to gain traction among fans and viewers. And Steve Levy shrieking like a teenage girl at a 7 yard gain isn't going to get people to flock to watch, either.
Quality was much higher than original XFL and pace of play and rule modifications all worked for me. Hoping this sticks as something to watch outside of college basketball for next month.

Except the Giants would beat any of these teams by three scores.

It’s Football. No one is expecting NFL caliber talent but I will check it out because it’s football

It's how I roll, inbred.
I go to a football game to be entertained by the football game, not because of stupid little sideshows.
