The past few days it seems a “foregone conclusion” that 1917 will win best picture which is quite strange to me. I liked the film but don’t think it’s worthy to win best picture over at least 4-5 of these other films. It was a great year for movies...here’s my predictions of what will win vs what should win:
Best picture: Parasite or Once Upon a Time in Hollywood should win, think 1917 will win
Best Actor: Leo should win, Phoenix will win
Best Actress: Zellweger should and will win, but Scarlett has a case
Best Supporting Actor: Pitt should and will win, but Pesci was phenomenal
Best supporting actress: Florence Pugh should win, Dern will win based on her career/all the hype
Best director: Bong Joon-Ho should win, Mendes will win as it seems 1917 is getting all the love

I think nowadays, there seem to be consequences for speaking out at these events, and Pitt seems like the type of person who's perceptive enough to get that. I highly doubt he said what he said to get patted on the back by his piers.

All of this political shit becomes viral, I don't watch Mississippi St pressers either, but when you pick a side, and you have a voice, it becomes national news.

I'm not okay with any of it. I just think it's silly to compare a college football coach's press conference to the Academy Awards where Brad Pitt, one of the most famous actors in the world, willingly ostracizes half of his fan base just to receive a round of applause from other celebrities that already agree with him.
And then those aggrieved members of the fan base can use their wallets to not pay to see any of his future films. So the consequence falls on him. So who cares?

You literally just said he 'willingly ostracizes half of his fan base just to receive a round of applause from other celebrities that already agree with him". If that's true, then there should be significant blowback in terms of tickets sold.

Yeah, there a million different reasons to watch or not watch but it was specifically stated that some don't watch because of the politics in the acceptance speeches. The Oscars are the Super Bowl for movies and Hollywood. If you like that stuff, it just seems odd to boycott over a few seconds of someone talking.

But I'd agree that that is the path that people should take though (ticket sales etc) if they feel so strongly about it. Did I roll my eyes when I saw the clip of his comments? Yes. Will it stop me from seeing a movie he's in? Absolutely not

Shia has had a weird past but his last movie about the guy with down syndrome wanting to be a wrestler was great. People are accusing him of laughing or growing impatient with him on the stage. There is no fucking way he was acting like that. Shia and Zach from all i have been reading, has a friendship that no one could break. It was the highlight of the night for me
