"From Michael Irvin: “I am telling you right now, at the Super Bowl in Miami, some very significant people that I had conversations (with were) leaning in that same direction. It was shocking. I had a vodka cranberry in my hand and when they said it to me I put the drink down and said, ‘Let’s talk a little bit more about this.’
"I promise you, I had a conversation with people, I can’t tell you who, about that same scenario going down.”
The idea: The Cowboys could use the franchise tag on Prescott, trade him afterward and then sign Tom Brady. "
Cowboys Trading Dak Prescott and Signing Patriots QB Tom Brady Being Discussed by 'Significant People,' says Michael Irvin - (

Dak figures that the salary cap will go up dramatically with the new CBA and wants to be paid accordingly and does not want to do a long term deal at today's prices and gamble on a renegotiation if things don't go well under the new system. It sounds like he wants either a short term deal so he can hit free agency under the new CBA or he wants a longterm deal based on what the new numbers are expected to be.
Yes. Nothing to see here.
Fandom aside, and knowing he isn't worth it aside, I think he knows he will command top dollar as an UFA and he's negotiating as such.
In response to the retraction, Irvin further reiterated on Twitter that he never meant to imply anyone from the Cowboys spoke to him about this.
You have no idea what they offered him so thats a ridiculous comment. No one knows what the structure of their offer looks like. The average per year is meaningless
He would be more expensive on a per year basis, but a 1 year fully guaranteed $35m deal is something I'd rather pay than upwards of $100m fully guaranteed for Dak. Brady being worth that is a different story, but as far as contracts go that would be my preference.
I can't believe that people think this ISN'T being discussed.
I do too but I still think they might not sign Dak for the long haul. Maybe one has to do with the other but I really could see them trying to trade up for a QB (meaning trade Dak now for draft capital in 2020) or making a move for a vet + a day 2 QB.
If Garrett was still there I'd put the odds of this super low but i'm wondering what influence McCarthy has on this decision and whether he's really eyeing someone in the upcoming draft.
Why the fuck would Miami give up #5 for dak? That's insane. No shot they do that. QBs with those mega contracts don't get traded often especially for a chance at a young franchise qb
That would allow them to back load Amari Cooper and B. Jones contracts and keep them too.
They would also be able to draft a guy this year or next to groom behind Brady.
How is that not a better plan than giving Dak a mega-deal, whom many believe will never get Dallas to a SB?
Agreed, if I was Dak, I'd sign for $35M and thank the good Lord that I was in the right place at the right time.
Maybe more like...
"Look at Irvin. High as a kite again! Listen...I've got a plan..."
I cannot believe he turned down 33 million per. He must be getting bad advice.
Glad it is happening to the Cowboys ... first Zeke gets more money than the position is worth and now Dak. Did they sign Amari yet? That is going to be another boat load.
