but I'm sure it was the typical #1 market, mecca of basketball refrain that we always hear while posting 25-30 win seasons. I hope there's some substance behind these hires, and not just style points due to better branding and a coach familiar to the fan base.
Anyone see his interview on first take today? This guy is clearly now one of the top people in the Knicks organization. Worrisome to put it kindly.
i posted in the other thread but it seems like him and rose are going to be equal, him on the marketing abd branding and rose on the basketbball side...
he is very good guy to havr in your organization..

He basically said they need to sell the players on winning cukture and new york is a place they can come to and do that..
Hiring the best management and coaches possible..
Named Rj and Mitch as the two young pieces to keep

That's encouraging. I don't want any delusions about the futures of Frank, Knox, DSJ, Dotson or Trier - they're just warm bodies occupying roster spots right now.
keep calling YOURSELF a guru, and compare yourself to Drake... to worry about people claiming he fired Mills. Sorry, he came off poorly for a guy who supposedly does this for a living.

That's fair - marketing guys shouldn't be doing First Take anyway, but the Knicks drive that show once football season ends.

Actually stephen a called him a guru and he said he wasnt a guru
class essentially firing Miller in an interview. Usually you don't do that to an interim coach. Go check twitter, Knicks fans across the board are saying he came off very poorly and I agree.

Because people are viewing him like he is the personnel guy..
He is their for branding and marketing, so of course that is what hr is going to talk about

Because he portrayed himself as such. He said he'd have a loud voice in the room.
"“And they got some young players — you see RJ Barrett, Mitch Robinson. They got something to work with. And getting a coach in there and ultimately getting a coach and a coaching staff that’s going to help develop a team. That’s what I expect to happen so that we can actually get to what you expect from a New York team.”

because he is very good at whag he does and that is branding and marketing..
he worked with the nets with their branding...
very big in the music business and has a lot of connections..

no he didnt, he even said that they are going to have a president to run the team and make those decisions...
People can downplay it all they want but reports and Stoute himself said he is heavily involved in advising Dolan. Does any other NBA team operate like this? For for a “marketing guru” he sure came across poorly in this interview.
It’s clear they are going for big free agents or bust. Which is pretty unbelievable given what happened over the summer. But my guess would be we are in for another cycle of hyping up the class of 2021 to “save the Knicks” and “ come to the Mecca”.
He also pretty much fired Mike Miller on Tv too. Bush league move for a guy who’s done a solid job.
Said he wants to be known for getting people jobs, specifically “African-Americans and women.” Might be tipping his hand about Becky Hammon, too. That’s a slam dunk from a branding standpoint - in addition to her impressive resume.
deemed him too expensive and he his "marketing" had nothing to do with the Nets turnaround (he was with the Nets briefly twice when they moved to BK, well before the Durant stuff).

what's ironic is that the Knicks, despite all of their problems, don't need this guy. Even though they're in the lottery every year and have had all kinds of bad PR, they're still a cash machine.
I get it that this clown is going to try and change the perception of the team held by certain current players, but unless he's a hypnotist it's not going to happen overnight. Only way that changes is if they start winning and/or Dolan fades into the background.
Why are the interviewing the Knicks marketing guy? Who gives a shit.
If the Knicks hire JVG and get rid of Miller (who I think has done a good job).. I'll probably bow out of Knicks threads and just keep my pissing and moaning to my TV and dog.
the knicms should have the best coach and the best coaches for developing young players, that means they are firing Miller..
Sorry if i am being a complete homer but i dont see why everyone is freaking out over this interview, he is not the president of the team..
Come on you can’t be serious. We haven’t heard from Knicks management since the Sunday night impromptu press conference. Head coach fired, president fired, big trade and still nothing in the press from management. And this is the first guy we hear from? He’s clearly playing an important role. And to me having Nas’ former manager and music marketing guru be heavily involved with basketball ops is concerning.
And doing that to Miller is complete bullshit and shows you how poorly this team is run.
The sad thing is the Knicks don’t need help with the business or entertainment aspect. They do that really well- anyone who’s been to a game can attest to that. Their problem is the on court product and I’m still waiting for them to hire a competent leader to turn that around.

He is not apart of basketball ops, leon rose is going to be president of basletball ops..
Does he have a big voice yes, but he is on the marketing side, that is what he does, he helps players off the court, that is what he said..
the reason basketball even came up is because he said that creating a winner is first and foremost..
and the whole need a big voice for a coach came from stephen a preaching about mark jackson, steve stoute just said when you dont habe the star as a fave usually the coach is the face of the franchise...
and do you really want to hear from dolan on the firing of mills?
the benefit of the doubt. Granted, they've been much worse for far longer, but the symptoms are the same - a fatigued fanbase that looks upon any move skeptically.
We don't know who's running what there, and whether it's good or not. It's too soon. I'll just maintain hope that it's actually Rose in charge, and the reason you're hearing from this guy is because Rose isn't contractually in place yet.
RE: RE: i am tired of defending the knicks in these threads Â
I like Calipari but he's a recruiter, which doesn't help much in the NBA.
Why would you leave that?
I'm afraid to ask what he said.
Why would you leave that?

He may view NYC as > KY, the NYK challenge as attractive and they can always pay him more than his current comp (8mm).

and not for nothing his expertise is marketing...
