The draftniks: where they currently stand....

Milton : 2/12/2020 12:21 am
The Huddle Report and Great Blue North recently updated their big boards, so I figured now was a good time to do some comparisons of some of the top draftniks in the biz (in terms of predictive powers). None of these boards are even close to final and there is plenty of shuffling up ahead, but what the hell.

Here's each draftnik's top 12. Click on the links for their full board...

Okudah, young or Simmons will be a giant...not bad no matter which direction we go.

Obviously, I think it's beneficial if QBs kick ass at combine and rise up.

It's a dream but imagine skins and lipns both trade out and we get young? Or maybe skins trade out and lions decide to go CB?

One can dream
Or we trade down, get our top OT and also a top defender.

Thanks For The Summary
Trainmaster : 2/12/2020 1:51 am : link
Two "dream scenarios"

1) Burrow, Tua and Herbert are all drafted 1, 2 and 3, leaving the Giants with the pick of the non-QBs.

2) Burrow goes 1st, Young goes 2nd*, Derrick Brown goes 3rd and the Giants pick up multiple extra picks, trade down to 5th to 8th overall and end up with Okudah, Simmons or Wills plus extra picks.

*honestly, I watched Young on every snap in his last 3 games versus Michigan, Wisconsin and Clemson; very good player, but nothing to indicate he is clearly the best player in the draft IMHO.

Then you should have noticed the double and triple teams he was seeing consistently. Especially on obvious passing downs the guy had to go through a double team with a chip.
If we stay put
MtDizzle : 2/12/2020 6:05 am : link
It should be Simmons or Okudah.
Tua getting a lot of love
ZogZerg : 2/12/2020 6:56 am : link
..
Wills seems to be either OT1 or OT2
Rjanyg : 2/12/2020 7:28 am : link
If need is the de using factor he seems to make the most sense.

I would prefer an impact defender who brings much needed speed. My favorite players in the draft are Simmons and Chaisson.

He Saw Some Double Teams
Trainmaster : 2/12/2020 9:29 am : link
But very often he was one on one. A decent amount of time one on one against the right tackle (usually the lesser of the two tackles skills wise).

Again, maybe earlier in the year against lesser competitors he was regularly double and triple teamed, but from what I recall in the last three games, he was one on one for most of the snaps.

If he hadnít been hyped so much beforehand, you never would see ďclearly best player in the draftĒ, from the last 3 games.
How to get both OT & Impact Defender
lcrim : 2/12/2020 9:30 am : link
Giants draft strategy on Days 1 and 2 is to maximize value w/ our 4th pick and also pick up OT who are both ready to play in short development time.
Our 2nd. rd. pick @ #36 won't be high enough to fill our major needs @ OT or Defensive impact player. The need to trade down into the middle to bottom of the first round w/ a pair of picks would be ideal. Is there a scenario to accomplish this?
Larry
Andrew Thomasí stock falling it appears.
The_Boss : 2/12/2020 10:04 am : link
Iím hoping the NYG have zero interest in Simmons. Give me Willis or Okudah if we stay at 4.
Obviously trading down would be ideal - however it doesn't happen much
PatersonPlank : 2/12/2020 10:12 am : link
teams just don't want to give lots up, and I'm sure we would want something unrealistic. So staying at 4, since I see an OT around 5 or 6 on each list, I'm fine with taking one. Its what we need most, and it seems like the value is there, so lets grab our OT!
Definitely intrigued by Simmons...
RC in MD : 2/12/2020 10:21 am : link
I know we have a need to get an OL, but Simmons has been consistently ranked by many as a defensive difference maker. We haven't had a true defensive difference maker in years. I'm all for drafting Simmons.
if his leg is completely healthy

Bryce Hall will be a steal in round 2.

My one gripe with Simmons is what Jon C keeps pointing out - he's not very physical.
Regardless, I really hope we trade down
Anakim : 2/12/2020 10:36 am : link
Aside from Chase Young, there is no one who I think would be outstanding value at 4.

Two scenarios I'd like to see:

1) Giants trade down to 5, 6 or 7 and pick up an extra second rounder. Then at that spot they take OT Jed Wills Jr. of Alabama.

2) Giants trade down with the Raiders and pick up both of their first rounders
Can already see it now

A lot of broken remotes, stretched out clothes, and looks of disbelief coming late April.

These big boards and mock drafts aren't the 10 commandments, just opinions.
It would be good for us
Jay in Toronto : 2/12/2020 10:43 am : link
if Brown climbs up post-combine etc that he might go #2 0r, more probably, #3

I'm not so sure that happens. Not that Brown doesn't deserve it because he does, but because of positional value. Interior guys don't usually go in the top-5.

I definitely like the discussions and draft talk but many here never learn. No one knows the real draft board, which is what the teams are looking at it.

Yep, especially when you can give up a few measily draft picks for the same right to sign one in free agency like everybody else.
Trade back and DO NOT pick Okudah
averagejoe : 2/12/2020 11:48 am : link
Giants need ER,LB or OT in first round. Ideally we trade back and get another late 1st rd pick or early 2nd. We took a CB in 1st last year that had not allowed a TD all season. How did that work out ? Don't care how good Okudah is supposed to be. In NFL every WR he will face is better than any WR he has ever faced. And they have all been beating rookie CB's for years. Eli Apple and DeAndre Baker say hello.

Crazy take. So you wouldnít take revis or lattimore on this team? A great corner like those mentioned can shut down half a field and change your entire coverage and scheme. It can allow you to defend other aspects of the field without worrying about an elite wr. When revis played moss, Andre Johnson, chad Johnson etc. he shut them all down and coverages rolled the other way. An elite island corner is just as valuable as an elite edge rusher or stud left tackle. You take okudah if he there and donít think twice. Itís really that simple. The guy is a better prospect coming out than Jalen Ramsey. Sign me up.

Nobody is comparing this guy to Revis coverage wise. If he is not Revis you don't take him at 4 with both lines losing the LOS. Your take already assumes he will be the best cover corner in NFL. That is insane.
'Or we trade down, get our top OT and also a top defender.'
Torrag : 2/13/2020 11:34 am : link
I'd trade down and actually go OL twice. My order for OT's is Wills/Thomas/Becton. Take OC Cesar Ruiz #36 then it's defense defense, defense, with a Slayton type WR in Round 5 or 6.

Free Agency signings can and likely will have a domino effect on this strategy.
Young
OC2.0 : 2/13/2020 1:31 pm : link
On the fence with him. Not convinced heís the Superman alot of people make him out to be. Ií m hoping it doesnít come down to us making that choice. Strange as that may sound.

I'm liking what I've read about OC Lloyd Cushenberry. Including Biadasz, there are apparently three really good centers in this draft. Would love to see the Giants come away with one of them, but I expect all three to go in the top two rounds (assuming they don't interview poorly).
