Brett Kollmann - 10 Prospects Who Dominated the Senior Bowl

Klaatu : 2/12/2020 6:37 am
Not your typical Kollmann video. A little cringe-worthy at times. But he does offer some insight on a few players who've been mentioned here from time to time, and a few others who may not have been on our collective radar screens.

I could have done without the lip-smacking scotch drinking, It seemed very staged. Also reminded me of how Peter King would wrap up his MMQB columns with his coffee-of-the-week, beer-of-the-week, etc. Hey, look at me. I'm just a regular guy, too! Just stick to football.

30 mins to drink half of what he poured. But, I do like how he identified some serious undervalued players at the Senior Bowl
Lots of better scotches

I'm not a drinker. Just don't like the taste...of any distilled spirit...so the only thing I know about scotch is that Scotty drank it on Star Trek. One time he even mixed it with Theragen, a Klingon nerve agent, because Dr. McCoy said it should make a good mix.

I think the players from that LSU OL in this draft - Cush, Charles, Lewis - are some of the most underrated players n this draft.

I love Charles as a LT prospect.
Drafting an older player?

He talks about how being 24 would cause a player's value to drop. I think the opposite should be true.

Players are of most value to the team on their cheap rookie contracts. Getting performance out of them those first four years is the key to maximizing the production to pay ratio.

A 24 year old who is more mentally developed and who plays like a 24 year old would give a team greater value on their rookie contract. After their rookie contract is over, you have to pay them the same as signing a free agent, so that doesn't help as much as getting great production their first four years.

I found a whole lot of it cringe worthy.

But there was good stuff too. Among the WRs, I think the Florida kid who's a bit older at 24, Van Jefferson might be a great choice if he lasts to the Giants' 3rd or 4th round picks. He might last longer even if he doesn't perform great and the combine, and he doesn't sound like a kid who relies on outstanding athleticism, so he might not.

This is an important point the Reese and Ross severely overlooked. In fact all indications of their priorities were to draft younger players, believing they had more upside. Guys like Flowers and Apple, maybe Wilson and OBJ were all examples of younger guys the Giants drafted, IIRC. IT was almost surely a conscious choice and pattern.
