NYG: 2nd fewest penalties '19

90.Cal : 2/12/2020 9:42 am
With 102 penalties. Only Indy had less (97). Carolina was 3rd (108). Credit to Shurmur? Hopefully this continues under Judge. We had at least 1 positive this past year folks... lol

probably responsible for 10%....
refs had pity on them..

Now if they can play better, and continue to limit the penalties, then I will be impressed
Is there a fine line between...
moze1021 : 2/12/2020 9:58 am : link
playing safe and being aggressive when it comes to borderline penalties..

hit enter before finishing my thought..but my point is maybe trying to get away with PI, holds a little more often isn't always a bad thing..
Hard to commit penalties

when the opposing receivers are yards away and wide open from our young drafted CBs, or when opposing pash rushers are running basically untouched passed our tackle that was signed to a monster contract.

A low number of penalties certainly doesn't always indicate a well coached or good team.
Lmao at

Still had plenty

of pass interference flags in crucial situations it seemed.
forgot when we got our first roughing the passer penalty
Stu11 : 2/12/2020 1:40 pm : link
it was like week 15 or 16 and the announcers at first were astounded then realized it was because we were never getting near the QB.
This is kind of an alarming stat

And doesn't make Shurmur look any better in hindsight
under normal circumstances this would be indicative of discipline

and a fundamentally sound team. However, we know these were not traits of the last several Giants teams. So, I attribute this to a very aggressive team or a fluke.

Very good point. I'll bet some of the best defenses this past year had a decent amount of PI called. But its similar to Gretzkys you miss 100% of the shots you dont take; make a play and see if they call PI instead of getting burnt.

Another note though, it didn't FEEL like we were the second least penalized. Maybe its because they'd get them at the worst time, like 3rd and 10 and we take a holding call on D or 3rd and 2 and we take a holding call on O.;)
I wonder..
FatMan in Charlotte : 2/12/2020 4:06 pm : link
what percentage of those were from Golden jumping offsides!!
How many
Pete in MD : 2/12/2020 4:38 pm : link
of them were on 3rd and long and resulted in a first down? It felt like there were many of those.
Kind of funny a team can still be so bad
Dave in Hoboken : 2/12/2020 4:48 pm : link
even with so few penalties committed. Woof.
...

Well at least we know all the losing wasn't a product of the refs having it out for the Giants.

agreed
Great News for the Giants!

On the same day that they "won" last year's draft rating they nearly won last year's fewest penalties!

Who needs actual wins when we continue to dominate these important statistical categories!

Agreed. I remember cheering when our db got a PI flag...ecstatic that he was close enough to draw one.
Well the OL obviously
