NFT: Fitbit

Big Al : 2/12/2020 10:16 am
Mrs. Big Al works out at the gym 3 times a week and wants to get a Fitbit. Any recommendations?

I donít think there is any device for me to measure my time on the couch.
My wife loves her Versa

That would be my recommendation.

My wife used to have the Blaze and she switched to the Garmin vivo active 3 (which is what I have as well) and she likes it a lot better. FYI.

To save money had app linked to your phone updating your movement etc.

Depends on what you want to spend $$
Have a tic watch too, but battery life was wayyyyy to short for my liking.

If you do not have an iPhone (I do not) but want an apple watch, you can pickup a used broken screen iPhone on eBay, create an apple ID and have it forward to your samsung etc. too.

It had to be plugged in and connect and fwd to your email address on the samisen phone.

If your into a bigger watch goto the fitbit page they have an excellent customer service IMHO. Chat works very well.

Versa or Ionic, both are on sale

with $50 off.
Versa, but with an extended warranty

Great watch, but I bought 5 of them for the family and 2 of them went wonky. We do put them through the paces though.

Failing an aftermarket warranty, consider buying from Costco where the return policy is a lot more forgiving.

Meaning what, exactly? Do you swim with them on, go through boot camp type physical obstacle courses?

Reason I ask is I had purchased a Fitbit a few years ago and it went 'wonky' w/o any abuse whatsoever. Gave up on it
I have a Charge 2

It's decent, but I hate that hte customization options for the face are terrible.

Fitbits also have shit build quality and will give out after a year or two. Get a warranty.

You name it - swimming in saltwater (extensive), boating, fishing, contact and non-contact spots. The two that gave out belonged to my older son and me, and we're not exactly gentle on watches.

Having said that - build quality is a concern. Fitbit has been great about replacing devices even when they're out of warranty. Not sure how they are in that regard post-Google acquisition, but I'd try their online chat - tell them you want to troubleshoot the device, say you had it working for only a few months before it gave out. Worst case scenario, you're out a few minutes of time, but they'll likely give you a replacement unit or a steep discount on a newer model.

didn't realize Versa-like devices were so 'all elements' usable

Yep - I've had a Fitbit for many years now, through various devices, but they were never waterproof which was a huge limiting factor for me. The Versa was the first that was fully waterproof, so I jumped on it at a high entry price. I ended up getting one for the rest of the family I was so pleased with it, but it ended up dying on me shortly after that. Fitbit was good about replacing it, and then my son's did the same (with the same warranty experience).

They aren't the most reliable products, but they have been fair about warranty coverage. I had one Ultra that was lost when the holder broke, and they sent me a new one no questions asked.
Have the charge 3

Love the small footprint and weight on my wrist
I just bought a Versa 2 myself

Got it from Costco for 50 bucks off. But I'm not sure how much I like it so far. It seems to be, shall we say, *very* generous when recording steps.

I can't seem to get it to record my sleep whatsoever. I don't think I'm going to try anymore, because wearing it actually seems to hinder my sleep anyway.
Charge 3

How is the screen viewing in sunlight?
I can't imagine swimming in saltwater is a good idea

Even for a waterproof Fitbit.

I have the Versa Lite. Supposed to be waterproof, but I haven't tested that yet.
