NYP: Patriots are ‘100 percent done’ with Tom Brady

One Boston radio host is sure about one thing — Tom Brady isn’t going to be wearing a Patriots jersey this year.

“I believe the Patriots are 100 percent done,” retired Patriots tight end Christian Fauria said of Brady on WEEI’s “Ordway, Merloni & Fauria.” “I think the Patriots are okay and ready to move on.”

That came after Fauria, a former teammate of Brady’s, said he believes there’s a “99.6 percent” chance that Brady leaves New England.

99.6% chance he’s done

“I believe he’s done...”

My expectation is that he returns on a two or three year contract
Milton : 2/12/2020 12:55 pm : link
But that's just based on the football and money side of it. If there's bad blood between Belichick and Brady that changes everything. I just don't see him leaving because they can't agree on a contract.

Didn’t Cooley call out Rapsheet last winter as a potential hack last year?
I have trouble reconciling this...
bw in dc : 2/12/2020 1:28 pm : link
Brady apparently wants more money, but he also wants the Patriots to spend more money to upgrade their offense.

After many years taking below market value so the team can invest more on both sides of the ball, why this new pivot by Brady?

enuff w tghe 'he's been taking less than market' nonsense

he gets paid for his tb12 bs too! add em up if you want to compare how much he gets 'paid'

The pivot is probably due to some rift between Brady and the Patriots. And by Patriots I mean, quite possibly, Bellichick and what he sees as the near future direction.

So in essence, Brady is forcing the issue. Either take me back at my demands, or I'll go else where.

Breakups happen all the time.

Last time I checked, TB12 comp is not included in the cap.
I’ll believe it

I think part of all this is...
BillKo : 2/12/2020 2:14 pm : link
...Brady probably feels vulnerable about how the future has been laid out, particularly and likely by the head coach.

So he figures let me cash in for the time I have left - and what I in my mind probably deserved - from all those years I played at a discount.

Feelings get hurt, people react.

Think about it. You'll be under paid, in Brady's mind - and also maybe lose your job or get benched. Esp if a draft pick is looming.

I don't think the Pats have paid for the TB12 services for a few years now, after Brady's biz partner was kicked out of the complex.

I still think they come to terms with Brady, but it would be interesting to see what they do at QB and how effective it is. I know Belichick liked the rookie Stidham, but that would be a tall order to ask him to take the reins.
Would the Pats trade for an earlier draft pick

to draft one of the top QB's if Brady is gone?

I think the odds are more like 99.4%.

But doesn't Brady still operate TB12 out of a Kraft-owned facility for free (or at least a significant discount)? Even if the Pats aren't paying for the services anymore, if Brady is using Kraft-owned things for his business and saving on overhead that way that is essentially payment going to Brady.

training camp next year. He clearly looked to be significantly declined as last season went on.

The Patriots are playing for superbowls and BB looks like one of the least sentimental humans around. I'm not surprised that they are thinking about moving on, especially if Tom is playing hardball when it comes to salary or wants a multiyear committment.

He saw how awkward it got at the end with Eli Manning at the end. Could easily end up the same with Brady and maybe the Pats are going to be ruthlessly pragmatic and think that it's better off to move on one year too early rather than too late.
If it's true ...

How much would the Pats give to get their next franchise QB (with say the #4 over-all pick) ?

Their choice of probably Hebert, Tua, Eason ?

I wouldn't be surprised if they select Jake Fromm. He has a lot of the qualities that the Patriots like and he could fall to them as opposed to trading a bounty to move all the way up into the top 10.

Could be. But I think they like Herbert

The Pats got their last "franchise QB" in the sixth round, and BB has done very well over the years with pick #32.

As I have said over and over in all the stupid "franchise QB" threads - it does not matter where you pick. What matters is who does the picking.
Don’t think it matters what Brady does
Oscar : 2/12/2020 7:02 pm : link
I doubt he leads the Pats back to 12 or more wins let alone a Super Bowl. And he’s unlikely to get it done elsewhere at his age.

Part of me thinks it’d be appropriate for him to stay and retire a Patriot. The other part of me would enjoy watching Patriots fans squirm as Brady goes elsewhere.

I don't know what pj is hearing but

my relatives in Boston and Cape Cod think Brady is done and that the Pats would be better off without him - I find it hard to believe but that's what they are telling me
This isn’t that complicated.
Tuckrule : 2/13/2020 5:20 am : link
Brady doesn’t have the same value to the other teams that he does with the pats. The other nfl teams that need qbs do not value tom Brady the way the pats do. Chargers, colts, Bucs, raiders and titans need qbs theoretically. Out of those teams named only one has a solidified offensive line who can protect a pure pocket passer. That being the colts. They should sign rivers to 2 years and 50 million. Save a ton of cap space and build a winner in the next 2 years. You take on Brady’s salary if your the colts your looking at 35 million per year for a player who’s almost the same as Philip rivers at this point in their careers. Brady doesn’t have any leverage. It’s pats or he’s retired.
All you need to know

Fauria responded to the publishing of this story by reiterating that “This is my personal OPINION.”
I don't think they need to trade up
crackerjack465 : 2/13/2020 11:22 am : link
Jake Fromm at the end of round 1 seems like a very pats-like QB selection.

No it doesn't, but it sure does compensate for the "discount" he supposedly gives
