NFT: Brooklyn Nets at the Break

looie : 2/13/2020 7:29 pm
A decidedly up and down 1st half at least ending with some hope with big wins over IND and TOR and a near-win in TOR last weekend. Defense improving with Jordan, Allen and Chandler providing muscle in the middle, something that’s been lacking in recent years. If KI can get healthy and STAY healthy, he plus Dinwiddie, LeVert, Harris, Prince can produce solid offensive punch. Atkinson continues to be a coach that players love to play for. Will probably face TOR in 1st round. Nets can easily be that sort of pesky, pain-in-the-ass team that no one wants to play in the playoffs.
It must suck to be

Nets fan because they actually have a decent team and no one cares. I have still yet to meet a Brooklyn Nets fan in person.
Shocker of a post

Thanks for your input
I actually thoroughly enjoy being a nets fan. If rooting for a team were based on how much people cares about your team- that would be really sad

When the nets play defense they can beat anyone- when they don’t they can lose to anyone

I’ve been a NETS fan

too, for far too long and they have a solid team. If they can ever get Kyrie and KD on the court at the same time there might be something there. I don’t think they get past the first round this year though. Probably a bit like last year against Philly.

Well, now you’ve met 2 of them. Hitdog: 6 of 7 on the road after the break including PHI, BOS, MIA. I think we’ll know a lot by then, eh?

I’d be very surprised at this point if Durant isn’t back in late March.

Going to be a fun couple of months...

Welcome to the club. I agree that everything would need to fall into place to beat TOP in 1st round but hey, why not?

From your lips.....
I don’t see it happening.
I don't think Durant comes back unless the team really looks good
Eric on Li : 2/13/2020 8:21 pm : link
and obviously for that to happen, Kyrie needs to come back and stay healthy. But who knows. Missing the entire season always seemed overly conservative, but if the team isn't going anywhere without Kyrie there's no reason to not be overly conservative.

Forgetting Durant it's kind of a tough year to enjoy since Kyrie keeps looking great then getting hurt. Reminiscent of the early DWill/Lopez years together when both kept getting hurt. Hopefully they can manage Kyrie so he's healthy when it actually matters.

All things considered Kenny, Dinwiddie, Jordan, Jarrett Allen, Levert, Harris all looking solid. Kurocs, Musa, Prince disappointing.
This team hasn't played as well together compared to the last few

seasons, but the injuries are obviously a massive factor. It's really about next season. Couple of observations:

The injuries with Kyrie have hurt the Nets, but when he's been healthy, you can really see how skilled he is. All of us Nets fans loved D'angelo Russell, but the upgrade in talent is evident.

I'm not sure that Taurean Prince is a starting 4 on a championship team. He's a nice player and I'm still a fan of the trade for him, but I hope we see him coming off the bench next season or try to flip him in the offseason.

Deandre Jordan has been a nice addition and I feel good about having him as the backup to Allen. None of the Nets bigs could defend Embiid/Marjonovic in last years series with Philly. Jordan will be a nice piece to have come playoff time

Dinwiddie and Harris continue to be fan favorites. It's been awesome to see them both go from unknowns to legitimate pieces on a good team.

I think I might prefer for LeVert to come off the bench with Dinwiddie next season. They are both a bit to ball dominant to play alongside Kyrie and Durant. Re-sign Joe Harris to a fair deal since the team is going deep into the luxury tax and his bird rights are one of the limited ways Brooklyn can add talent. He can start at SG.

Hoping this team can play well together down the stretch and maybe score a first round upset. Think that would add some nice momentum going into next year. Need Kyrie to be healthy.
Prince has been very JAG'y and underwhelming
Eric on Li : 2/13/2020 8:37 pm : link
that one seems like a bit of a misfire from Marks. The main goal of the move to acquire him was clearing space for FA but he got a good extension that seems like it would have been better spent on someone else.
Seen a bunch of the Nets this season.
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 2/13/2020 8:51 pm : link
Irving is Irving: helluva talent/weird dude who has been banged up all season long. He had a great game vs. Chicago & then gets injured the next night vs. the Wiz.

Dinwiddie continues to get better & better.

I doubt KD returns this season, unless I'm missing something. The Nets will probably get bounced early this spring, but if KD returns & is KD, they'll be scary next year. I really have no animosity towards Brooklyn. They're run a 100% better than the clown car known as the Knicks.

It must suck to only get enjoyment by shitting on another teams fans. Stay in your Knicks threads and wait for LeBron and KD to sign...

Like himself again which I think is key down the stretch. Gotta get Kyrie back in time too.
The Nets

The one thing I've really taken notice of is the production they're getting from the center spot. The combination of Allen/Jordan is routinely putting up over 20 rebounds and 18 to 20 points a night. When was the last time a Nets team got that kind of center production?
Yeah, let’s get Kyrie back...

so the Nets can get back to losing.

Oh, sure, he looks pretty on a basketball floor with his fancy dribbling and moves. But at the end of the day he’s an albatross to a team. Without LBJ, he’s been a loser in the NBA. One of the most overrated players I have ever seen. I hate that the Nets had to sign the guy to lure KD...

The Nets are so much more interesting without him on the team and on the floor.
How is Durant's rehab going??

if Kyrie, Levert, and Dinwiddie get time together in the second half of the season and go into the playoffs healthy. Nets match up well against them.

It would be really interesting to see the Nets with KD on the floor and KI out with an injury before the season ends. It could open up the possibility of convincing KD that the Nets going forward would be better off trading him

Zero chance of that happening.

There's plenty of Nets fans in NJ. I still maintain that the Islanders are the one team that I've met the fewest fans of in person. It's definitely under 10.

But then again, I don't live on Long Island, the same way you probably don't live in NJ. Selection bias
