but probably would be a bad look for MLB with all the emphasis on cheating right now.
Also, I won't pretend to know Arod's finances, but my guess is it would need to be a group - like with Jeter and the Marlins. I doubt he could come anywhere near being financially able to pull this off himself.
correct. He and his wife combined have nowhere near enough money to buy a the Mets. They would be figurehead investors. Don't see this happening... at all.
I don't think big ownership groups are good for the sport. He might be worth 1B but he is not worth 2B or more and wouldn't put it all into the team. You would have to think like Jeter might be the front man because of his name with big financiers behind him.
I also agree with article that Steve Cohen is going to wait for Wilpons to get desperate and end up buying team for less than 2.6B. Their 5Y shenanigans will come back in their face and Cohen will end up owning team.

Do A-Rod and J-Lo constitute a group?
Doubt it happens ... and that's fine. Not sure it would be all that much fun being a Mets fan with the two of them front and center all the time.
If MLB has issues with Cohen, how can they not have issues with Arod, who was suspended for a year and threatened to sue everyone and anyone. Will he bring with him his special brand of vitamins?

A-freaking men. My point exactly. If you won't let someone in who wasn't convicted of insider trading, how do you let in a steroid cheat?

The irony in all of this of course is that the current ownership group is fraudulent.

Either that or completely clueless in their financial dealings, which I find hard to believe.
The problem with an Arod or another vanity purchase is that they generally can just scrape up enough money to make the purchase and don’t have enough to spend to improve the organization. The kind of money a Cohen or someone like him could bring to the table dwarfs the type of money an Arod can bring to the table and I don’t care how many partners he has. I don’t think this would be an improvement over the Wilpons, it might be worse. The Mets need someone with deep deep pockets who’ll hire a first rate baseball organization.
Arod can't afford to buy a team by himself any more than Derek Jeter could. Even if JLo chips in. Now if he held on to that Silicon Valley chick it might be a different story.
Thankfully the Wilpon's have to sell and Cohen has the cash and really wants the team. This deal will heat back up.
Doubtful. Especially the if Manfred had qualms about Cohen’s past. He has to be approved by the other MLB owners too. It’s over.
Money talks. I'd have to imagine if Wilpons pressured to get it done with Cohen it would still happen...
Let's face it .. the Mets should be a premier organization and the league should be benefitting from them as a big market team. The Wilpons can't deliver that..they just don't have the bank account to be real MLB major market owners. A guy worth $13B is what Mets need...and it would be great for all of MLB...and there aren't many guys our there who can do that.
I don't care what people say about the reservations on Cohen re insider trading..this deal didn't happen simply because Jeffy wants his hero moment. He's deluded. He thinks if the Mets win the WS, Mets fans and the city will respect him and love him. Never going to happen. Pretty clear that if they win a WS it's despite the Wilpons, not because of the Wilpons.
Last thing .. probably pretty hard to find dudes worth $10B+ who have never been scrutinized by the SEC in some way...that kind of wealth doesn't just happen through honesty or by accident..let's not kid ourselves.

No way that will pass scrutiny of the MLB owners.

A-Rod and J-Lo buy the Mets, that guy wins his suit and winds up getting the Mets in judgement. God help us all.

Bwahahaha. Still better than the Wilpons.
Sounds like a good Seinfeld episode...
