It's hard not to appreciate Coach Judge's consistent mantra of building a fundamentally sound, tough team.
He appears to be a very intelligent guy,
Simms11 : 2/15/2020 10:09 am : link
well-spoken, understands where he wants to go with the team and is looking forward to starting those building blocks. I’m anxious to see how it all comes together and if the new staff can help improve the play of the Giants that are on board.
What is very clear about Judge
Dave on the UWS : 2/15/2020 10:37 am : link
is he keeps things close to the best. He’s not into hyperbole, he believes in the process. We will not have ANY idea where this team is until week 1 next September. This how Saban and Belichick do it. They say very little but are laser focused on their process. He’s got a dominant personality, I can see this team being a reflection of that.
I love this guy
Saquads26 : 2/15/2020 11:13 am : link
Doesn’t even have to hesitate a second to answer any question and never needs “um” “well” “gee”.

“FUNDAMENTALS AND TOUGHNESS”
Many years ago, I had a Jamaican friend who's favorite saying was,
Ira : 2/15/2020 11:15 am : link
"no brag just fact". That's what I thought about Judge when I saw this interview. As was said above, he's intelligent. He's also a high energy, take charge kind of person.

Yes! With all due respect to Shurmur, Judge seems to have a vision that is in line with NY Giants football. I like his presentation, demeanor and word choice.
Hope it’s not all coach speak

Hope he means it
Im very confident in the Joe Judge hire
blueblood : 2/15/2020 11:59 am : link
I see the hire as not just about an X and O's guy.. but someone to come in a set up the proper structure which elads to winning which is what the Giants have lacked.
He says
Joey in VA : 2/15/2020 12:04 pm : link
Exactly what I want to hear re: team building. He stresses a system and a foundation which you have to install and maintain for years to really establish a winning culture. People always wonder what the secret sauce is, and he's nailing it, it's the head guy setting the pace by working diligently and laying a good foundation.
Nice interview.
81_Great_Dane : 2/15/2020 12:11 pm : link
Now show me.

The thing I like the best about Judge is the idea that (like the Pats) the Giants won't have a single approach or personality -- that they'll change their approach week to week. That takes a certain kind of player -- smart, versatile, a fast learner. That system can't absorb a lot of one-trick ponies. Do the Giants have enough of those guys? Maybe, maybe not. Even if things are going pretty well, I expect a lot of roster turnover before opening day 2021, and maybe by the trade deadline in 2020, as Judge reshapes the roster to meet his needs.
He's not into predictions but i'll make one
gtt350 : 2/15/2020 12:12 pm : link
Our team will be unregcognizable this season from last year.
I think we will also have a good idea
Dave on the UWS : 2/15/2020 1:10 pm : link
what he thinks of the talent on this team going forward. If he makes a substantial amount of roster change, then I think its safe to say he doesn't see enough players he can win with. If he keeps the overwhelming bulk of the roster, than that's a condemnation of the coaching last year.
I'm glad that he's saying all the right things...
Klaatu : 2/15/2020 1:14 pm : link
But let's face it, that's the easy part. The hard part will be actually turning things around, and that will be more like turning an aircraft carrier than a PT boat, in my opinion, especially with a FO that may hinder as much as it helps.

I dont think the FO is that much of a hindrance

The situation with Leonard Williams is already a hindrance.
I like that he does not get baited

Into talking about individuals.
Coach Judge
Devour the Day : 2/15/2020 2:04 pm : link
I just have a good feel about this guy. Dont know what it is but he def reminds me of a friend of mine who is a Colonel in the Army who I worked with years ago esp in regards to his mannerisms and how he speaks.

Dave, this is fair on its face. Practically speaking, though, college scouting (within the number of picks we have) and pro personnel (FA) have to be able to identify and sign players to upgrade last year's roster guys, to the extent available and affordable. May not be able to do that in year 1 alone.

Im not as focused on that as other people are. He is an under 27 DL who can play 3 tech, 5 tech and The shade. The run defense improved with LW and Tomlinson better play coincided with WIlliams's arrival.

So I dont see that as a hindrance, but I realize I'm in the minority on that one. The FO is trying to acquire young talent. I dont see an issue with that

It's a good interview
Gman11 : 2/15/2020 5:11 pm : link
but how many new coaches come in and say, "We're going to develop the system to fit our personnel?" - All of them!

He may not have been a head coach, but he still is good at dodging questions.

Q. Are you building or going to have a good team?
A. We're going to come in and work hard.

LOL. No shit.

You can't get anything out of interviews. The proof is in the product.

Lol.

Q. What type of defense would you like to run?

A. We are going to be an aggressive, attack defense. We want our guys getting downhill and in peoples faces in a hurry.

We all know none of this means anything
arniefez : 2/15/2020 9:51 pm : link
the only thing that matters is Ws & Ls. But all coaches do not say we're going to fit the scheme to the players we have and even fewer do it. All coaches do not say we're going to attack on defense.

The Giants have rarely attacked on defense since the Bill's left in 1990 including most of the 12 years Coughlin coached the team.

christian : 2/15/2020 11:06 pm : link
I remember like it was yesterday when Pat Shurmur was the adult savior the Giants needed. Bettcher was going to get poached and be a head coach candidate in a year too.

I'll get excited if the Giants make the gutsy but necessary decisions with the personnel baggage. That will tell me Judge has authority, and this thing might have a chance to turn around soon.

This is very true. Most coaches try to shoe-horn players to their schemes and not play to their strengths. Shurmur did not appear very afoot at attacking the other teams weaknesses?! Anyway, proof will be in the pudding. I like the direction so far. Let's see how this staff works dynamically.
damn autocorrect!
Simms11 : 2/16/2020 12:03 pm : link
Not afoot, adept.
