Got a new job and Need to leave my current laptop at my old job. Need a new laptop for home that I will use for personal and work at home. I would like it to last a bit so I am thinking of getting a windows business laptop.
Specs wise I am thinking at least 16 GB of ram, 1 tb of storage, over a 2 ghz processor. I use office but also adobe creative suite at times.
I am a 15 inch screen person and touch screen.
Looking price range between 1,000 to 2,000.
Thoughts, experiences, recommendation?
Also what do you use for cloud backup and antivirus.
I like Macs but still like office on windows better and touch screens. Although the MacBook Pro 16 is intriguing. I have been looking at the xps and carbon. Also thinking about some hps.
Some good sales this weekend.
I have this Mac for 2 years and feels like it is brand new. You can get office for Mac just costs more. Only thing I wish is that I bought a bigger model; but I was moving phone, iPad, and laptop to Mac. They also had a credit card deal where you pay it off for 6 to 9 months interest free.
Not the flip, the regular laptop. Not sure if they have it in 15 inch.
I like ASUS as well. But, went with an HP this time.

MacBook Pro 16 has a nice keyboard and OS-X is what it is. If you’re going Windows I’d recommend the Dell XPS line or the Lenovo X Carbon series. Nice business class laptops.

So, I’m not really a fan of HP. I’ve only ever bought Dells and Lenovo’s for the different companies I’ve worked for (I’m in IT). Came close to getting HP into my last company, they’re highly rated on supply chain sustainability, but never got there. I’ve never liked the HP consumer line, always seemed lousy to me.
The XPS has been a leader in the corporate class for years now. They have a touch screen and it almost certainly what I’d get if I were buying something for myself. Can’t really beat the Lenovo keyboard and I do like the track point.
Seeing some great prices on Lenovo business under 2000 with those specs and win pro for president day weekend sale. I think I will buy online at Lenovo. Checked out a lot today. I think I will wait on Macs until I am not worried about my one and four year old messing with it.
Thanks. Will check out as well.
I second this.
My first computer was a Mac Classic and my first laptop was a Mac Powerbook Wallstreet.
The Powerbook sits behind my desktop monitor. Six months ago my boss said he needed files off of a floppy disk drive and I told him that I had an old mac with a floppy drive.
I took the Macbook out, plugged it in, and it booted up like it was brand new. We're talking 20 years old. I bought it in 1999!
Anyway, since about 2005 I had been using various PC laptops and desktop machines and got sick and tired of replacing them every three years or so.
In 2014 I bought a MacBook Air. To this day it works like a charm. Last week I tossed my PC desktop and bought a iMac 27 inch desktop. I have everything synced up with an iPad Pro and an iPhone. My calendars, to-do lists, notes and passwords, email, everything. It doesn't matter which machine I pick up. It's seamless.
That's the way computers and devices are supposed to be.
I fully expect both machines to last 8 to 9 years.
I'll never go back to a PC.
Other options?
Costco has one of those for sale too for $1800. 15 inch, 32 fb, 1t ssd, 9th gen core 7. Was interested but for some reason there was a bunch of dud reviews on Costco. The specs were great at that price though.

But still considering the new MacBook Pro 16. Impressive machine and the Touch Bar is pretty cool. The price is a little high but not too much more than the Lenovos I am looking at. Want it to last 5 years. As strange as it sounds the Mac just seems too nice as I tend to bang my computers around a bit. I worry about messing it up or taking it places.
If you're considering the MBP 16", a lot of retailers are discounting it. Check appleinsider.com . Also if you're a veteran you can get a 10% discount directly from Apple. Lastly Apple is already selling the refurbished MBP 16" at a 15% discount off new. You get the same warrantee and AppleCare options you would with a new computer. I strongly recommend the i9 8 core processor
You almost got me there. I really do like macs as well and the refurbished were good deals but by the time I would have been done it was around $3000 with apple care included and taxes, not including office suite. I do think I may finally get there when I get my next one hopefully in 5 years.
Ended up getting the Lenovo thinkpad p1 gen 1 version. It is a good price with good specs since there is now a gen 2. At Costco had 1tb, 16 ram, 8th generate i7 with 6 cores. Buying at Costco extends the warranty to 2 years. I have had good luck with Lenovo lately and think I will be less nervous about owning it.
Thank you everyone for the feedback—I went in a lot of different directions.
Thank you. Good to know. Helps too if I had any buyers remorse!

Sounds like you were buying the lowest grade Windows laptops around.
