Its now mid February and the Combine starts next week. Certainly 99.9% of NFL and college football coaching staffs are now set for the 2020 season.
Thought it might me a good idea to check in on what some of last year's Giants coaches are currently doing, now that coaches hiring season is pretty much over:
DC- James Bettcher- currently unemployed
OL- Hal Hunter- currently unemployed
RB- Craig Johnson- currently unemployed
DL- Gary Emanual- currently unemployed
LB- Bill McGovern- currently unemployed
DB- Everett Withers- currently unemployed
Asst DB-Henry Baker- currently unemployed
Not sure if any of these guys are handy, but I am hearing that coach Freddie Kitchens needs a swing set built.
How many of them are still being paid by the Giants?
McAdoo sat out like an idiot the last two years. IMO. lucky to get a QB coaching job. He was a career TE coach w a couple of years as a QB coach. Stretch hire as a OC. Major stretch hire as a HC then sits out two years.
Most of these guys are going to have to take a step back. After the last two years they need too. Don’t wish anyone to lose their job but boy that staff was just horrible

Bettcher was horrendous. If it was all young guys I could have maybe given him the benefit of the doubt. But they brought in at least 5 of his former Cardinal players who knew his system and they still sucked.
Parcells would tell his staff "You SOBs aren't going to get me fired." Shurmur probably would have been fired anyway, but his staff sure greased the skids.

I don't think anyone wanted him as an OC so this is about what he could get at this point.
He crippled Andrew Luck.

I wouldn't call McAdoo an idiot for that necessarily. He wasn't getting any OC offers, and I have to imagine that NYG HC money still rolling in was worth sitting out. Probably won't be an NFL HC ever again, that was once-in-a-lifetime $ he would have just forfeited. All just to be a QB coach somewhere just to stay relevant? I'm sure he weighed his options the last couple years and considered the $ he would have lost. Meanwhile he still made it back in the league as a QB coach which is probably what he would have been anyway if he had come back in 2018 or 2019.
So, in hindsight, what do you see that this "idiot" could have done differently that would have benefited him more than the decisions he ended up making?
O guess he's a really good coach, even if not so much a good person?
