NGT: Dolphins starting to like

As the Miami Dolphins have been studying college talent and meeting to develop an organizational plan for the NFL Combine in Indianapolis next week, the teamís emerging view at the top of the quarterback class might surprise some.

Firstly, the clubís view of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is not of a slam-dunk pick near the top the draft. At least not yet. The Dolphins will go through the process of vetting Tagovailoa at the Combine and beyond, as other teams will, before deciding if heís worth the No. 5 overall selection, which Miami holds in the first round of the April draft.

Secondly, the club has an increasingly positive view of Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert.

This from sources familiar with the clubís thinking.

This is from the Miami Herald not some random internet website. Let the draft intrigue continue.

Or, as Bogie said once, "It's a combination of all three."

this is the " LYINGEST " time of the year for NFL front offices and GM's.

Fly up boards ... happens every year. Team at X waits patiently and they get their guy at #4 and heís the best graded player. Itís a theme that repeats.

Chase is better than the average year,.. but their are 3 QBs going top ten. Josh Allen getting Buffalo to the big playoffs helps. Just saying itís not as far fetched as some are making it.

I think everyone does. And I wouldnít really call it lying, thereís tons of players to like so it likely is and accurate statement anyway.

Exactly. Iím not sure why posters always have to come on to every single thread that is discussing draft day rumors and let everyone know that this is lying season. Iím pretty sure we all know this by now.
You want a quarterback, talk to me.

If ever there was a year to trade down.
Herbert is a damn good prospect - I don't know if this is true or not
PatersonPlank : 2/17/2020 10:44 am : link
but it certainly could be. The guy has a cannon, can run, and has size. He has a lot of things the NFL looks for, plus IMO his stats were hurt a little by playing for a mediocre team (although they were still good). We'll see at the combine, when he is standing next to the competition, but I wouldn't dismiss Herbert going very high
The eval is still so early

Combine and pro days still to go, and Tua should be able to do some work on his pro day for teams, and that will answer some questions.

They will affirm who they really like when they are on the clock.

good for the Giants if true.. and even is it isn't true but hardens as a perception around the league..
I wonder if Herbert will be this year's version of Lock and Rosen

By that I mean a prospect who falls a lot further than his talent suggests.
Dolphins are perfectly set up for an "owners pick" at 5

is in bankruptcy. Probably useful to line a cat box.
Herbert

will likely be the 2nd QB taken, he played in a more conventional offense and looks more like a classic NFL QB.

I've already posted a thread devoted to this

but I'll say it again -- Burrow, Tagovailoa, and Herbert are, all three, better QBs than any of the QBs in the 2018 draft (ie. Mayfield, Dalton, Rosen, or Allen).

All three are going to be top 5 picks imo -- and it makes sense if you are a team that needs QBs to trade into the first three, or four, picks to get them if Washington sticks to getting Chase.

By the way, if I was making the decisions in Washington, I'd strongly consider drafting Tagovailoa or Herbert at two. That would be the best possible outcome for them. It's not like their last first round QB wasn't over hyped and didn't pan out, and they very well could suffer the same fate with Haskins.
Darnold not Dalton

it is unlikely any of them win the MVP by 23 so I am not sure how the prediction that all will be better than any QB from 2018. Lamar was a 2018 QB.
I've said from jump street ...
Torrag : 2/17/2020 4:07 pm : link
there is a very strong chance 3 QB's go in the Top 4. Nothing is certain in the Draft but the number of teams in search of their future at the position is going to put the pressure on to move up.

All the fuss made before the 2018 draft about the quality of the QB class, can you really say that those five are better prospects than Burrow, Tua and Herbert?
Certainly neither Rosen nor Allen. As for Lamar Jackson, he is thus far unique, but it's quite possible that teams figure out a way to play against him that negates his effectiveness.
