Heres our latest first-round projection: 1. Bengals: Joe Burrow, QB, LSU Its hard to buy into the Eli Manning-like rumors surrounding Burrow in recent weeks. Its not like the Chargers and Dolphins have been significantly more successful than the Bengals over the last decade. If the Colts, Patriots or Titans want to make the deal of all deals, then sure, that makes sense. Otherwise, Burrow should just go with the flow. TRADE: The Redskins send the 2nd overall pick to the Dolphins for the 5th overall, 18th overall and 56th overall (2nd Rd.) picks. 2. Dolphins (via WAS): Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama With Burrow off the board, the Dolphins make sure they can land their guy, Tagovailoa, with the second overall pick. Armed with three first-round picks, Miami sacrifices one selection to get its franchise quarterback. The Redskins now have two first-round picks, which takes the sting off not getting Ohio State pass rusher Chase Young. Tagovailoas hip fracture has healed, which means he should be able to play early on in his rookie season. Having Ryan Fitzpatrick to guide him will be a huge plus moving forward. 3. Lions: Chase Young, DE, Ohio State Wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles!!! The Lions somehow win the Chase Young sweepstakes. Someone will need to check the 40-yard dash time of the guy bringing the name card to the podium. This is as far as Young should fall, and only because the Redskins traded back. 4. Giants: Isaiah Simmons, LB, Clemson The Giants need a lot of help on defense. With Young off the board, the G-Men decide to find the future captain of their defense under Joe Judge. Simmons is a versatile linebacker, who should improve the Giants run defense and make plays in coverage. Its a bummer to miss out on Young, but Simmons is an absolute force at the linebacker position. 5. Redskins (via MIA): Jeffery Okudah, CB, Ohio State The Redskins made out like kings by trading back from the second overall pick. With Quinton Dunbar ready to leave town and Josh Norman looking like a shelf of himself, the Redskins will have a lot of work to do at the cornerback position this offseason. While a reunion between Ron Rivera and James Bradberry is certainly possible, that move wouldnt stop the Redskins from investing in Okudah, who is a blue-chip prospect at the cornerback position. 6. Chargers: Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon With the Dolphins aggressively moving up the board, the Chargers are left to pick the third-best quarterback prospect in the draft. Thats fine with them though, as Herbert has a west coast feel that will appeal to the Los Angeles crowd. When the Chargers announced they were moving on from Philip Rivers, they needed to have a plan for free agency and the draft to make that decision. Even if they can lure Tom Brady to LA, they need to have a long-term successor in place. 7. Panthers: Derrick Brown, DT, Auburn With three quarterbacks off the board, the Panthers decide to focus on their defense. Brown can be the cornerstone of the new regimes front seven. TRADE: The Cardinals trade the 8th overall pick to the Raiders for the 12th overall and 80th overall (3rd Rd.) picks 8. Raiders (via AZ): CeeDee Lamb, WR, Oklahoma The Raiders badly need help at wide receiver. Getting a sense that a wide receiver run is coming, general manager Mike Mayock reaches for the phone and makes a call to Arizona. Offering up a third-round pick to move up four spots, Las Vegas makes a splashy first-round trade in front of its new hometown, landing Lamb in the process. Lamb will be the top target for whoever plays quarterback this season. 9. Jaguars: Javon Kinlaw, DT, South Carolina The Jaguars couldnt stop the run last season. Still, they kept defensive coordinator Todd Wash, who needs a run-stopping presence in the middle of his unit. Kinlaw can do it all and should be a welcomed addition to a young defensive front. 10. Browns: Jedrick Willis, OT, Alabama The Browns need better protection for Baker Mayfield this season. Playing under his third head coach in as many years, Mayfield needs to feel comfortable in the meeting rooms and on the field. Willis could serve as Mayfields blindside blocker from Day 1 |
I don5 want a saftey at 4. Id rather have our next OLTor a CB. James dropped to 16 the yea4 he was drafted.
I am open to arguments that Simmons is the right pick at 4.
Please educate me!
Fiddy except for the fact that Stafford had one of his best years last year AND his cap number this year is 32 million. And except for last year he hasnt had a huge injury history. He is only i think 32 or 33 years old. He has years left.. Detroit needs help on defense. They cant cover ANYONE..
I suspect the Lions will be the first trade down spot.. not the Redskins.

You certainly could be correct. Of course his medicals could determine whether or not they feel they need to protect themselves for the future.
and Young is there for us at 4.

Problem is they really cant move on from him until 2022 because it would be 32 million in dead cap money this year and 19 million in 2021.. in 2022 that falls to 6 million and there is no more signing bonus..
but then if you did take a QB in round 1 you lose TWO years of having him cheaper.. AND you have a TON of capital in the QB position between Stafford AND a #3 first round pick sitting on the bence.. not a smart move cap wise..

Been consistent in my opinion. Taking one of the OLs at 4 is a reach only because most if not all will be available starting at 8. Even this Mock has the first OL going at 10. If we really are locked in on an OL then they move is to trade down a few slots and grab some more picks.

Except for two straight years hes had broken bones in his back
If Im burrow I am not going there.
I agree that Burrows won't play for Cincy. Mike Brown wins contests as the worst exec in professional sports.
The Dolphins are going to get Tua. They have the picks w/ #5, #18, #26 and 2 2nd day picks. To me it comes down to which team takes the deal w/ the Dolphins. Not to put too fine a point to it, but these are the three worst teams in the NFL, not by accident.
Larry
Redskins take Chase Young.
Tua or Herbert goes #3, either to the Lions or to whoever they trade out to.
Simmons to Giants? Possible, but I don't think they've made up their mind yet about him.
deep doesn't mean top heavy, my good man
my guess is we try to address cb in fa, which i think makes sense give lti for the position. if grab a jones, for instance, passing on okudah for simmons makes sense. same goes vice versa too. fa will address one or both of these positions 100%
I can see the Giants drafting the highest rated Tackle in the draft (as long as he has a first round grade). They are going to need someone to block Young twice a season for the next 10 years? It is not going to be Solder we know that ....
If The Redskins trade out of the 2nd pick and Young goes to Detroit - a good left tackle is still needed but, not as imperative and then maybe they go defense (Isiah Simmons?).
Except his cap hit would be huge, no?

And tank this season to pick Trevor Lawrence in 2021

$25M Significant, but much better than the $32M being thrown about. There is the possibility that Detroit might not be the ones shopping him, but rather Stafford might demand a trade. If his wife doesn't want to be there, then Stafford could demand a trade.
But assuming the first 3 picks did play out that way, the Giants would draft Okudah, salivating at the chance to pair him with Baker.
