Rangers trade D Joey Keane to Carolina for F Julien Gauthier, 22, who has 26 goals in 44 games with Charlotte in the AHL this season. Gauthier is fourth in the AHL in goals. He was Carolina's first-round pick (No. 21) in 2016.
because the Rangers have a glut of D prospects but yeah, I was just hearing how highly regarded Keane was in the organization so a little surprising. This guy they traded for must be tantalizing for them to move Keane.
We've no choice to believe JD and JG know what they're doing here, but it will be a bitter pill if it doesn't work out. Staal and Girardi were ridiculous contracts, Shatt was a ridiculous buy-out...and now Henrik is left to reap the whirlwind, in more ways than one, of not going that route.
This year may not be franchise defining for the medium term, but if not, it'll come damn close
was a first round pick a few years ago and considered on of thier better prospects. I'll be interested to see if he gets a shot with he Rangers after the deadline.
With the caveat that, while a good skater, he doesn't have the pure speed Kreider has. I keep seeing him described as a big, strong kid who can skate and shoot. Can score goals despite not having the highest hockey IQ or elite puck skills.
That's very similar to the kind of prospect Kreider was.
I guess they really are excited about Nils Lundqvist to be willing to deal Keane after he had such a terrific season in Hartford.
Greg, how about we add more size up front rather than
I'm on record as saying I'd rather keep Kreider and create cap space by dealing either Trouba or Skjei. I don't think Gorton's going that route, though. Just a guy feeling.
I think that Skjei might be in play but would be surprised
And maybe it's not his fault - seems like every defenseman the Rangers jettison plays better elsewhere, so there likely is something wrong at MSG. Still, if he continues to play as he has this year, he's going to be a total boat anchor for a long time once that NMC kicks in this summer.
I'd love to pair Trouba with a very solid defensive defenseman.
Is fine, he don't need to score to be effective, like some. He is getting 22 min. per game. The trade is a fomer 3rd rounder for a 1st who has 26 goals and is 6'4", exactly what we need, give JD a chance here, this is year 1 for JD and Gorton working together.

Buchnevich's cross check of Marchand has been wildly celebrated virtually everywhere online. A post on the r/hockey subred got 1500+ posts, almost all laudatory, and the YouTube clip of it has 3.1K likes versus all of 68 dislikes. That's some ratio.
RE: RE: My guess is that they're still planning on trading a wing - Kreider or
likes both, Gauthier a bit more -- pressure to trade Gauthier because he will be waiver eligible next season. Some scouts question hi inconsistency. Hopefully Quinn can work his magic.
on Friday, but then I remembered that I can see it on TV and shut it off when the game is over and not have to fight traffic to get out of the parking lot then drive for an hour to get home.

One of the greatest moments in franchise history. Give him the max.

My instant reaction to this is that the New York Rangers get the better prospect out of this deal. I've long been a fan of Julien Gauthier's game. Took massive strides last season. Can't be far from being an everyday NHL contributor.

No, that would be Ryan "Master of the +/-" Graves for Chris Bigras
Link - ( New Window )
Not the Rangers fault that they had seven elite dmen ahead of him who played superb defensive hockey and weren't total fucking sleds.
This year may not be franchise defining for the medium term, but if not, it'll come damn close
That era -- giving away Park and Ratelle. Criminal
He's a RW. More of a Fast replacement.

Like if he can screen on power plays etc

Fast going soo?
Fast going soo?
Indeed. He's been assigned a uni #
Bruins should include Studnicka and their first
Avalanche should Newhook and their first, but it'll probably be Kaut, not Newhook
a 1st plus a B type prospect will be a fair return for CK20 as a rental.
If NYR can not resign Kreider in the next day or two, he is a MUST trade.

No, probably not. Maybe Kreider, Lias Andersson and Georgiev for Newhook and a first?
Man, tough choice. I like both.
Newhook can play C, is younger, maybe a little more dynamic - dominating NCAA as a freshman.
Kaut bigger, a wing, but not really more physical, holding his own in the AHL.
I doubt CK plays another game until he is either re-signed or traded.

Fast. Gauthier can provide depth.

Not sure Fast is really a top 6 guy but Gauthier might be

Not a huge deal, but a point nevertheless.
