Witten acknowledges he may have to go elsewhere next season

CMicks3110 : 2/18/2020 9:01 pm
This *does not* indicate anything yet, and he clearly wants to stay with Dallas. But I think it is noteworthy.

Quote:
“I just think, yeah, coaching is in my future, but right now, I want to play while I can. We’ll see where that takes place. Of course, I want that to be with the Dallas Cowboys. I’ll always be a Dallas Cowboy. But I also understand that, with all the changes, I may have to go somewhere else.”

The tight end, though, understands the reality of the NFL: He might have to go to the Giants or some other team to play a 17th season.

Wherever he goes, he's sure to score a TD

vs. us. Unless he comes here, in which case he'll be sure to fumble multiple times when nearing the goal line.

Him pulling a Jackie Smith for the Giants would be quite appropriate
I'd sign him

He can still block and he can tutor the other tight ends. I believe that would be well worth the investment.
Think he would make a great TE coach if you can work him into your

So looks like Dak’s agent isn’t crazy after all. He’s only going to want a one year deal but the cap crunch in Dallas is real. Cooper Jones and Prescott are all going to cost. Only way NY gets a sniff is due to Garett. For one year worth it for Jones’ sake. Dude is a pro’s pro.
Yes, I'd take

Witten for 1 year, but would not pay him much. 1 year, $5 mill.

No he can't. He hasn't been able to block in years.
Witten is fuckin cooked. Good dude but no way in hell

do I want him on this team. We all seem to have a warped view of him because of how he plays against us.
If you’re a few players away, perhaps having

For better or worse, we know that Gettleman favors having a veteran around the team to show a specific group of players how to act as a professional, even if they are well past their prime. He did it with Stewart to mentor Saquon. He did it with Bethea when he knew the Giants were going to draft heavy in the defensive backfield and get very young there.

In this case, with Engram and Smith, it's quite possible he brings in Witten to mentor these guys and show what's needed to prepare.

However, I don't know how Judge will feel about it, but we also know that coming from the Belichick line, Little Bill learned from Big Bill that you can plug in a veteran that most think are done if they can do one specific skill/thing that you are looking for as a coach. Judge even mentioned that in his presser. So I wouldn't be shocked to see Witten come here. And while I think he's super done, if it annoys Cowboy fans to have that happen, then I will take whatever little wins we can get, since we haven't had many of any kind around here in a looooooong time.

The annoyance factor is always a strong consideration. 😎
Eh, I can do without a 50 year old TE

Although I think people here are way, way too impressed with Kaden Smith. Total JAG.

You don’t know that at all. No one does at this point.
You're right
Greg from LI : 2/19/2020 9:23 am : link
By the same token, no one knows that he's not. All we have is our opinions, and in my opinion he shows no particualar standout skills and is slow as molasses.
The Giants should sign him
David B. : 2/19/2020 9:45 am : link
just so they don't have to cover him for the two games a year where he's often directly responsible for the Giants losses.
Garrett

should have a pretty good idea of what he's worth.

With incentives, or you are wasting roster spot and money.

I think his ceiling is a TE2, so maybe JAG-plus, another Bear Pascoe (who also started out in SF). Not a bad guy to have around, but not who you want starting on a regular basis.
We can only hope he stays with the cowturds and is their starter!
Jack Stroud : 2/19/2020 1:48 pm : link
Witten has HoF numbers against the Giants, but there has to be a point where even the Giants DB's can cover him.
