One was Rosemary's Baby. I was at my friends' while all our parents were out and an older son was babysitting. They had WHT or some other early movie channel before real cable and we watched that. I was about 4. I think it was the rape scene that did me in. I didn't watch that movie for about 30 years. When I finally watched it as an adult, I was like meh.
The other was Poltergeist. I was 10. That summer my sister drew clown after clown in camp and we shared a room. I couldn't sleep all summer.
Saw it when I was nine on TV. The scene with Martin Balsam and the one with the rocking chair gave me problems with staircases and basements for a long, long time.
War of the Worlds 50's version. I was 7 or 8 at the time and recall
walking home after dark and looking up at the sky almost the whole time. When I was eating dinner I kept looking out the kitchen window for an invasion. By the way, Gene Barry the star of the 50's version had a bit part in the newer Tom Cruise version.
i think more so than JAWS was Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things i discovered it in March of 1981 during Fright night on channel 9 .My Saturday nights as a kid was going to sleep early than my dad would wake me up so i could watch WWF than fright night afterwards. Most nights i stayed up for both and i discovered this gem and it scared the living shit out of me i remember cutting out the description in TV guide the next day too .Its become one of my favorite movies and it was made by the legendary Bob Clark who did Porky's and Christmas story .
YES! i had so many nightmares about this movie.. it got to the point that where i thought that movie was a dream. I didn't realize until i was an adult that it was an actual movie, it triggered some major PTSD.
I know exactly what you mean. For the longest time I couldn't remember the name of that thing, or even what it was actually about. All I could remember were a series of disturbing individual scenes, like the ghosts and the kid's hair falling out and the evil teacher holding kids prisoner so he could use their hair to make paintbrushes. . I would ask people about it and none of them had any idea what I was talking about - in fact, they probably thought I was a loony based on my descriptions of it. For a while, like you, I thought it might just be a figment of my imagination. One day, the name just popped in my head. I looked it up and, damn, it was real.
I remember, back in 5th grade, being baffled as to why they would have shown us this horrible movie.
RE: How many of you lost sleep cause of THIS little fucker??
The Brain that Wouldn't Die
Attack of the Crab Monsters
Dagora, the Space Monster
It Came from Outer Space There was one about witches that nearly killed me...don't remember the name.
Then I had to walk home...in the dark...by myself.
Fast forward seven years. Now I'm 22, in the Army, stationed in Friedberg, W. Germany, Ray Barracks. Went to see Poltergeist with three buddies at the post theater (which was at the bottom of a long, unlit hill). That scared the hell out of me, too, but at least I didn't have to walk back to the barracks by myself.
Starring Vincent Price . I was about 10 & remember heads flying around & people being thrown in acid
That movie was terrifying as a kid. I remember one scene where a person was floating along. No idea why but seeing people fucking floating along like it's nothing freaks me right the fuck out.
My aunt took me to see The Exorcist in the theater for my birthday. Not that a closed door can limit a demon, but since then? I cannot fucking sleep with a closet door open. Seeing Linda Blair come down those stairs inverted? Jesus H Christ.

And of course, Jaws.
I think this is the movies you're talking about:
The City of the Dead, aka Horror Hotel.
It scared the hell out of me, too, as did Trilogy of Terror.
HOLY CRAP that's IT!!! Now I'm not gonna sleep for a freakin' week!
by The Boys From Brazil. Couldn't wrap my head around a bunch of little Hitlers running around. I was maybe 14-15, and also remember my Dad telling me the Nazi hunter in the film was, in his opinion, the greatest actor who ever lived. I was like, yeah OK ... meanwhile it was Sir Laurence Olivier.
Flying Monkeys! Darby O'Gill and the Little People... Disney film with a banshee and the trailer shown on TV... I think it was Attack of the Giant Spider... terrified of spiders
An early 70s TV show that used to scare the piss out of me...
DAMN that headless motorcycle rider. I looked forward to and dreaded seeing that show at the same time.
I believe the TV movie pilot and all of the episodes are available on YouTube. I think the second TV movie (with underground Seattle) is also available, but I'm not sure.
Bit of trivia for you: The actor that played the vampire in the pilot also played Surak, the Vulcan who began the whole logic thing, in the Star Trek: TOS episode, "The Savage Curtain."

Love Kolchak sucks that they stopped showing them on the retro channel ,I bought the first two movies on blu ray last years .Hopefully the tv show is re released on blu ray
I saw Eraserhead like two years ago and it still traumatizes me
The robot that took Alex's place while he was in space. The thing zapped him in Centauri's car and it had to generate the skin. How can you not remember that?
There was a movie came out in the early 60's called The Tingler, where buzzers were installed under a few seats in the theater -- at certain points in the movie, these buzzers would vibrate the seat. And people would jump up screaming.
"The Tingler remains most well known for a gimmick called "Percepto!", a vibrating device in some theater chairs which activated with the onscreen action."

Yup. Came here to mention Trilogy of Terror for just this reason. I was 7 or 8 when I stumbled upon it on tv. That was a rough couple of nights.
Friday the 13th Part 1 & Phantasm - both gave me nightmares for months/years.
Cried myself to bed for a couple months because I was sure my Dad was going to die.

the show with the alien people who looked like people but were lizard-like?

But V was pretty freaky on TV when I was a kid.

Yes. And they made a reboot a few years ago with the chick that played the wife on Homeland the first couple seasons.

Two very hot ladies in the remake. Morena Baccarin (Firefly) as the Queen alien, and Laura Vandervoort (Smallville) as her daughter.
Still, my heart will always belong to Jane Badler.

Directed by William Castle - ( New Window )
My favorite was the politician who makes a pact with Satan & kills his opponents as a dog.
Fooker...

Yep, ugh. And my dumbass just google imaged it.
