What movies met the quality of the book?

For me, I think Jurassic Park lived up to impossible hype - it was a fantastic, impossible to put down read - maybe the only movie that really nailed it for me. First time we saw CGI that was THAT impressive. Mind blowing at the time.

I think the three best that I can think of are, ironically, Stephen King books. Stand By Me which was an adaptation of "The Body" and Shawshank Redemption which was an adaptation of "Rita Heyworth and the Shawshank Redemption", and "The Green Mile". It seemed to me that King's non-horror books were made into good films while his horror were just so so...until the latest "It" movies, lol. Another good book to film was To Kill a Mockingbird.

I was like 17 when The Shining was made, and had read the book several times over the previous couple of years. It was my favorite book then. So expectations were high due to lack of experience and judgement, lol. Kinda like when Ralphie finds out that the secret decoder ring decoded an Ovaltine commercial.
Comparing movie to the books - Jaws movie was better than the book

Hmm I loved the movie but I remember being tormented by the passage in the book on 1st girl that gets eaten. That was brutal. And of course the movie had me scared to swim in lakes and pools let alone the Ocean... lol
Not sure I was traumatized

but when Bill Sykes kills Nancy with his walking stick in Oliver I was a little shaken up.

I did really enjoy the book as well, but I just think they made a better movie. It's been awhile since I read it but the book was essentially a much different story with much less likable characters. Of course that made it interesting in a different way but IMO just not really the same story as what we see in the movie.

Sure I hear ya. I can't remember which I preferred (probably the move) but I just remember the first death in the book being really graphic and 1st person POV... and traumatizing... LOL

also Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Donald Sutherland version)

Don’t be Afraid of the Dark scared the fuck out of me when I was a kid. Then in my 20s I rented it at Blockbuster Video and couldn’t believe how incredibly corny it was!

That’s my vote also. That movie scared the crap out of me
I enjoy scary movies so I can’t recall one that ever traumatized me

But when I was young the Bride of Frankenstein gave me a nightmare. Really pretty tame, but I was very young when I watched it.
Christoper Lee's Dracula

Good to know I am not the only one. I don't swim that far in the ocean. If I can't see the bottom it freaks me out.
