NFT: SNY now part of Mets sale as are two minor league teams

pjcas18 : 2/19/2020 11:22 am
apparently SNY is now on the table and included in the transaction would be Syracue and St Lucie.

Wilpons getting desperate?

With SNY now part of a potential sale someone will certainly come close or maybe even exceed Cohen's original valuation of $2.6B.

While its small, I also wouldn't downplay the value of adding the Syracuse and Brooklyn minor league teams.

Brooklyn specifically is a cash cow.

It was later clarified that BK is owned by Sterling Equities or something, not the Mets, so the two minor league teams are likely SYR and STL

Brooklyn
KDavies : 2/19/2020 11:25 am : link
will be even more of a cash cow if it goes to AA with the possible MLB reduction and elimination of Binghamton
Going to a Brooklyn game is a lot of fun!
NYG27 : 2/19/2020 11:30 am : link
Always seem to be a good crowd every game I've gone too. If they do become the Mets AA club, there will be even more interest.
To clarify
pjcas18 : 2/19/2020 11:31 am : link
Brooklyn is likely NOT part of the sale.

It is being speculated the two minor league teams included are Syracuse and St Lucie.

Yoenis Cespedes is part of a group at Mets camp (Nimmo, Davis, Conforto, others) tracking fly balls right now in the outfield. This is basically the last thing Cespedes needs to do to prove he’s healthy enough to return to games.

Should be noted that the others seem to be getting balls hit that are further away/tougher to track. But Cespedes being involved in this is another big step.

Might get back in it now. Wasn’t Jeff and SNY his biggest beefs?
Lol

Rojas said Lugo would be shut down for 3 days, Lugo said that's not accurate and there was a "miscommunication".

of Cespedes, not really much to see but he's moving reasonably well

So I'm a little confused:

"SNY now part of Mets sale as are two minor league teams"

so wouldn't that mean that 3 minor leagues are for sale?

Ha ha, baboom boom, a little Yankee fan humor here. I'll be here all night.
Unless he's blocked by MLB
arniefez : 2/19/2020 11:59 am : link
I think Cohen is going win this bid and maybe the reports that he orchestrated all of this to get rid of the Wilpons is true. It certainly is in character.
If St. Lucie is included in the sale,
Mad Mike : 2/19/2020 12:05 pm : link
does the new owner have to let the players use the fancy spring training clubhouse? Could be a dealbreaker.

Wait, what? No it's the Mets and 2 minor league teams? ooooohhhhh the Mets are so bad that they are considered the 3rd minor league team!

So

much for some random metrics liking Davis at 3b, per the post they had DiScarcina fly to work with him at 3b

"PORT ST. LUCIE — J.D. Davis began last season playing third base, but the Mets aborted that plan early because of a combination of factors.

Significant among them was Davis appeared overmatched at the position. Left field became his new home, and he survived but hardly thrived, allowing the Mets to keep a potent right-handed bat in the lineup.

“He needs reps in a game, and he’s going to fail,” DiSarcina said. “His first couple of spring games he might make two or three errors because he is trying something new, trying to incorporate a new technique into his game, and he’s going to have some rough spots, and it’s up to us as an organization to kind of deal with that. I just don’t want him falling back on his old habits of getting too low.”

NYPOST
LF is the right call for JDD - it's just a less important position
Eric on Li : 2/19/2020 12:42 pm : link
and he is never going to be a "good" fielder anywhere. He didn't look overwhelmed there last year so hopefully his strong arm can play and he can get close to neutral.
The Mets
pjcas18 : 2/19/2020 12:52 pm : link
really should have capitalized on Davis' strong season last year and traded him to an AL team.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think his value may be at peak.
Depends on Cano
Vanzetti : 2/19/2020 1:19 pm : link
Will he be healthy and will he hit like first half Cano or second half Cano?

J D should get tons of reps at third., especially with Cespedes looming
Wilponzi's must be graduates of the

It's definitely a possibility with both him and Dom. I kind of like both players, and in the past I have thought that it made sense to try to sell high on guys who exceeded expectations, sometimes they tank (like Gsellman) and sometimes I've been completely wrong (like JDG) - so if the value wasn't there I have no issue holding. You just never know what happens. Alonso could get trampled by Cespedes' horse and either one could end up the every day 1B for 5 years.
ZIPS projections
DanMetroMan : 2/19/2020 3:30 pm : link
@Mets starters... Ramos 1.6, Alonso 3.5, Cano 0.8 (yuck), McNeil 3.7, Rosario 1.9, Conforto 3.4, Nimmo 1.8 and Cespedes/Davis 0.9 #Mets #Zips
.
DanMetroMan : 2/19/2020 3:39 pm : link
Edwin Diaz bounces back 2.98 FIP, Familia mediocre (3.68), Betances also mediocre (3.64)

Give me the under on Ramos, Conforto, Mcneil and the over on Alonso, Rosario and Cespedes/Davis.
I'm no expert but
Del Shofner : 2/19/2020 3:43 pm : link
2.6 BN without the TV rights seemed unrealistic. I'm not surprised SNY is now in the deal.
If
DanMetroMan : 2/19/2020 3:53 pm : link
these held the Mets would almost certainly need to deal some decent prospects for pen help which is why many of us wanted them to add more to the BP vs. someone like Wacha.
COHEN WANTS THE METS BAD

“Cohen wants SNY, and he wants it at fair value,” one banker familiar with the deal said. “The team loses $50 million a year in a good year, so he wants SNY’s revenue, and he might pay a small premium to never have to deal with Fred and Jeff [Wilpon] ever again.”

LOL. So sad it's funny:

What about Tony Cingrani if he is healthy?
