CBS: If Titans keep Henry, may waive Lewis, NYG interest

Defenderdawg : 2/20/2020 8:58 pm
“A source with knowledge of the situation tells CBSSports.com that Lewis and his camp are "bracing" for the possibility of the Titans releasing their No. 2 running back ahead of 2020 free agency.
There's still a chance Tennessee could ask Lewis to restructure the four-year, $19.8 million contract he signed in 2018. The Titans have yet to approach Lewis about that, per the source, likely because they'd consider retaining Lewis if Henry somehow lands elsewhere in free agency. But as long as Henry is back, it's thought to be likely they don't keep Lewis at a $5.1 million cap number...”

“The Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins and New York Giants, meanwhile, are expected to make a play for Lewis in the event he hits the open market, per a league source. All three figure to be in the market for veteran depth at RB.”

No thanks.

Rather draft a guy late.
Should note Rosenblatt NJ.com

Mentioned this 6 days ago, brief thread on BBI
I’d rather draft a guy in the mid to late rounds to spell

Barkley. Lewis is ok but he has had his share of injuries over the course of his career and is likely done within the next 2-3 years. Why overpay for production you could get from a much cheaper player? That being said, Judge has been around him and if he values his leadership, etc. maybe it’s worth a small investment.
Lewis

is a good player. Has a NR relationship with Judge probably. I'd support this.

I'm not sure where that NR came from
Lewis is in decline...

pass.
Dion Lewis is a nobody.
Mr. Bungle : 2/20/2020 11:10 pm : link
I don't see any appeal there at all.

Ditto. Just don't see the upside. He doesn't do anything that Saquon can't do, but better.

A 7th round/UDFA power back is fine.
We can't afford to spend money on this.

We've got bigger fish to fry.
Would be an upgrade
MtDizzle : 2/21/2020 3:42 am : link
over Gallman by default.
Dillion

In the third round. Won’t be sorry.
TEN made the same mistake with Lewis that we made with Shane Vereen.

Now he's two years older.

There's a right price for any decent player. Dion Lewis still has some value, and the Giants do need a backup RB to spell Barkley and avoid another Jon Hilliman fiasco. Can't see making a significant investment in Lewis though. That's a role you can probably fill with one of our abundant 7th-round picks.
Not Sure the Giants Should Target Lewis...
Jim in Tampa : 2/21/2020 5:56 am : link
or some other vet RB. But I do think it's funny that some BBIers think that a "late RD/7th RD pick" is a plug and play as Barkley's backup.

While it is possible to find a quality 2nd string RB in the 7th RD, the odds are still against it.

Ahmed Bradshaw...just sayin

No way they spend free agent money on a backup rb unless it is vet minimum.
Let's see, Titans don't want to spend 5 million on a backup RB
ZogZerg : 2/21/2020 6:41 am : link
I agree completely.
Why should the Giants?
They shouldn't!
I'd be for this if
MattyKid : 2/21/2020 7:40 am : link
there's tape on his pass protection skills. I'm pretty sure 100% of us have no clue what he can do in that regard. You'd have to figure that when Saquan isn't in the game, there's a high % that the play will be a pass play. There are hundreds of guys that can run with the ball, but few that can read a blitz and block. I miss Brandon Jacobs!!

As we have seen,
NoPeanutz : 2/21/2020 9:15 am : link
If they don't fix the dog$hit blocking up front, even Saquan Barkley can barely find room to run. Spend money and resources on the line, that anybody can run behind.
i wouldn't mind lewis
MM_in_NYC : 2/21/2020 9:22 am : link
he's shifty mfer. and we haven't had a back like that in forever - and is a great compliment to sb, especially if we get back to have situational speciality backups to sb, which i think would be very nice.

Shane Vereen part 2, no thanks. I want young and fast not old and slow.
not condoning this but
GFiLA : 2/21/2020 10:13 am : link
for those that want a late round rookie to spell Barkley rookies have a hard time picking up their blocking assignments and that is no good for a QB. Probably better to get a vet.
Don't disagree that the Giants should be focused
LBH15 : 2/21/2020 10:54 am : link
on its other pressing needs. However, it is not a bad idea to consider a bit more talent/value in the running back ranks particularly with a lot of contract risk coming down the pike with Saquon soon.

It probably can wait another year but just sayin'.
Not where the Giants should be spending money.
