Tua Tagovailoa’s health could set off Giants’ draft boldness

One player the Giants absolutely, positively will not take could hold the key to their 2020 NFL Draft strategy. That player will be in Indianapolis next week for the NFL Scouting Combine, will not be doing much of anything on the field and yet the Giants could benefit from every shred of positivity that player generates.

The more confident NFL decision-makers are that Tua Tagovailoa will be healthy for this coming season, the more enticing he becomes and the more likely a team out there is willing to trade a package of picks to the Giants to get him.

I still don't see DG breaking his tradition and trade down though.

It would be the best case scenario I think

Assuming Young and Okuda were off the board... and even if one of them was still there, I think the trade down is still the way to go
Do these writers alwforget it’s really the Lions who stand to benefit

Both the Giants and Lions benefit.

Its really not that complicated, at 4 you get either Burrows, Young, Okudah or a trade up from a team wanting a QB. Its also possible that a second team may want to trade up for a QB so we may even get to choose between a player (more likely Okudah) and a trade up from a team wanting the 3rd QB.

This draft may very well go:

1. Burrows
2. Young
3. Tua (Miami from Det)
4. Next Best QB (LAC from NY)
5. Brown or Okudah (Det from Miami)
6. NYG from LAC (Okudah, Brown, OL, Another trade back or whoknowswhat)

Personally, I'd prefer Okudah or Young at 4, but if we're going OL I hope it's after a trade back. Even at 6 it would seem early but I guess you'd have your pick of the litter if you felt one was far and away better than the rest.
The Lions will

have a hard time getting fair value for the #3 because teams won’t want to trade lower than they have to and they know the Giants aren’t taking a QB

That's faulty thinking, because if a team decides they only have to trade up to the 4 slot, another team could trade with the Lions at 3 and take the QB they want.

If a team is sold on Tua or Herbert, they will probably try to trade up to 3, not 4.
Young

How many have watched him play? He is great off the ball but is not a two way end and isn't Bosa. I watched him four times and he was quick and fast off the ball, but he is not the end all.

I still think the best player for the Giant's needs is Simmons and then Wills or Becton on the offensive line
The only way Giants get a great offer for the #4 pick ...
FStubbs : 2/21/2020 7:35 pm : link
.. is if some team other than Miami moves up to #3 to get a QB, and then multiple teams are hot for whichever of Tua/Herbert didn't go #3, knowing Miami is sitting at #5. Then teams will definitely bid for that #4 pick.
EDIT:
FStubbs : 2/21/2020 7:36 pm : link
Sorry, one other way. Detroit drafts Okudah. Then the Giants' pick becomes the prime QB pick.

Posts like this make me wish that BBI had a thumbs-up button.
Tua just might go first

I would not be surprised if he gets a clean slate of health.

Because some guy who isnt a scout watched a whole 4 Ohio state games from the same tv broadcast you watch and says he's not that good?

Tall to me about how well you can break down line play from tv.

Is Tua injury prone???
Rick in Dallas : 2/22/2020 12:45 pm : link
No doubt he is the most talented QB in the draft but I am really concerned about his injury history at Bama.
