I wouldn’t get too comfortable with the notion that the Redskins won’t take a QB. The old coaching staff had only lukewarm things to say about Haskins. Even after Gruden was fired, you couldn’t get a strong positive comment from any of Callahan’s staff. Rivera, who gameplanned against Haskins when he was the Panther’s coach, hasn’t expressed any confidence in him. Doug Williams could barely come up with a nice word to say about him recently. I am convinced that if it was totally up to the football people in the building, they would take a QB at #2. The big question is Dan Snyder. Will he get out of the way? Or will he force his new staff to stick with the QB that he loves?
They probably take Chase Young. But I only put that “probably” at about 60% - 70%. Don’t be shocked if Tua goes #2.
Then what would Detroit do? What would the Giants do? Will they be prepared for the surprise, or will they panic and make a bad trade or pick?
2. With his lower body injury history, you have to be insane to draft Tua anywhere in the top 20.
1. Take Young
2. Take Okudah
3. Trade out with a QB hungry team that wants Herbert and/or Tua. Then grab an OT and get an extra pick.
Would I rather they were sitting at 2 or 3? Of course, but 4 isnt a bad spot to be
“Not only does Ron Rivera love Chase Young, but owner Daniel Snyder wants Young to wind up DC. It seems unanimous the owner and the coach are on the same page on drafting Young at this point.”
He has been non- committal. Said he would have to compete with any other QB on the roster for the job. From what I’m hearing here in Ashburn, where I live, is a QB is very much in play. But most likely only if Burrow is there. Rivera is being given more control by Snyder then any coach since Gibbs. Supposedly.
It’s like some of these guys are so delusional they will hold out hope that Young somehow someway makes it to 4. There is no shot that happens. Absolutely no shot. But these guys won’t believe it until they see Young bear hugging Goodell on the stage holding his #1 Redskin jersey.
Gruden did not favor any QB. He didn’t want a QB. He knew his job was on the line and wanted to win NOW.
However, he absolutely did not want Haskins.
[quote] He knew Danny Boy was drafting a QB and he tried to steer the decision to Jones. He may not have wanted a QB but he was going to get one and he definitely had a preference. [/quote
Interesting. I never heard this. Was this reported publicly?
They're going to ride Haskins, and Alex Smith will be the veteran backup, as he will likely be ready to go next season.
Yup, he may not be the most loyal cat, but in this case, I can see Snyder being stubborn and not select the better QB.
No. I was one win that sunk all hopes for Chase Young. Not multiple.
...but it remains to be seen whether or not he puts it all together as an effective QB overall.
Daniel Jones does not have Haskins' arm talent, but after onbe season he seems to have a higher ceiling as a better all-around QB.

There's really a limited set of scenarios for Detroit or NY to consider. You think they're not scouting Young or Okudah just because they may or may not be around by pick 4?

Nooooooooo way!!!!!!!!!
Yes, there is a chance they take a QB at #2. I think it is less than 1%.

No. And it's not actually a fact.
Gruden supposedly did favor Jones over Haskins, but that may have had as much value as Belichick having a preference in QB prospects with Brady on the roster. Preferring one prospect to another at a particular position is not the same as "knew he was going to get one of these two guys and preferred this one."
Will only speak in first person without pronouns. Will expect you to accept that. Do not have any real insight. Will expect you to accept that too.
Will also confuse trade up with trade down. Will claim that DG has never traded up in the first round when DG traded up INTO the first round last year. Will not offer any sort of reply to this post.
