Brought back a flood of happy memories of watching those Olympic hockey games with my family and especially my father. Easily the greatest hockey fan moment of my life. And, I’m a Ranger fan, so to me, this was greater than when the Rangers finally won the Stanley Cup. USA!!
I heard Al Michaels talking about it the other day.
He was also mentioning at that time, there were not a lot
of things to feel good about here in the USA. So true.
Things like the hostage crisis, gas lines, etc.
Great photo again.
comms, takes a bit to let that sink in. I was on way back in a road trip (long forgot from where) and heard the result on radio, really early AM, and my recollection is that the game was going to first aired on TV as a long after the fact broadcast. So I called a buddy from a diner, asked him to tape it--I didn't tell him why, no spoilers, we were both big hockey fans in school (Whale). His response was, "Why?" As in why record a slam dunk rout by the Big Red Army Machine? He still gets a kick out of that.
though much closer to NYC than Lake Placid (which was about 4 hrs north). I was a Sr in HS and some of my friends went to the game. I went to basketball practice (we were preparing for sectionals). In retrospect, I kind of regret. Oh well.

That was a great article - thanks for that. 40 years later and there's still something new to learn.
