I've been looking at film of draft targets the past few days

gidiefor : Mod : 2/22/2020 2:05 pm
I really wanted a defensive guy with the first pick -- but after watching a bunch of OT Jedrick Wills film -- that dude has got the nasty and some real power in his punch. He's got to be one of the most fluid lineman I've seen out of this year's prospects, and I don't remember seeing anything quite like him coming into the draft in the last five years.

He can move and he hits and punches hard. He likes to take his targets down. If they don't go down after his first effort he keeps on fighting till they do. He gets down the field well. He recovers well.

I would not be sad if we picked this guy.

I watched the other three -- Wirfs, Thomas and Beckton -- none of those three has the sheer physicality, power, meanness and fluid movement that Wills has.

I'm liking it

Wills is my guy

100% unless Becton drops 20lbs and wows at Indy. If we have Chase Young coming after DJ for a decade, I want Wills in his way.
Wills would be a very good pick for us

And probably day 1 starter.

Becton is a monster but may need a little more work.

Would love either as our top pick.

This may shock you but I am coming around to thinking this guy might be our best bet with our #1 pick

And the thing is he could still be there after a slight trade down that might garner another pick

And if not picking up Wirfs, Becton or Thomas would be nice consolation prizes that still address a yawning need

And with Judge and his Alabama connection it makes too much sense. If you are building a system/culture here then it makes sense that your first pick ever shares the same values and understands what is expected of him.
Unless there’s a wart on Wills that no has seen yet, he has to be

The first OT picked. Things will get clearer after FA but I would have no problem if Wills was the pick.

Will he be there at 6?
Don't get your heart set on anyone

That's a road that leads to PAIN.

Voc Lombardi.. who is very Oline centric.. loves him. He has it all. Athleticism, Nastiness, balance, and technique. The only boxes he hasn't checked yet should be cleared up at the combine, is arm length.

For me.. the team need and talent line up with him. I haven't seen a tackle like him come out in a while.

Okudah is going to be hard to pass on. Our historic trouble with drafting Oline makes this necessary. If he's there tho.. it gives me confidence I can trade down a pick or two and hopefully pick up another 2 or 3 to address on the defensive side of the ball.

Wills, Hernandez, Ziegler/Gates, Gates/ Ziegler, and Solder is a better than average line.
Jedrick Wills - ( New Window )
Looking forward to the combine

But right now it's Wills and Becton then a big drop off.

Thats what I have done for years now.. Since the Aaron Donald draft. Now I just try to learn as much as I can about each prospect in the range so whoever they draft I have an idea about the prospect
Wirfs and Becton are better athletes than Wills...
Torrag : 2/22/2020 3:57 pm : link
and I'm not sure where he comes in with his length/wingspan. That said he is my top OT but #4 overall? I'm not seeing the 'value' there compared to the other player we'll be considering.

Watch his tape. He's pretty dang athletic.
Wills is my favorite OL as well

I’m hoping he is the pick unless somehow Young or Okudah are on the board. It would be perfect if he Giants could trade down with the Chargers at 6, acquiring a 2nd this year and next, and grab Wills. Then they draft Matt Peart in the 3rd or 4th round to develop as the future starting RT.

Since Wills is likely the long term answer at LT they should start him there from day one since he is already comfortable at RT. They could shift Solder to RT and groom Peart as his replacement.
I also agree that Wills is a step above the other 3 tackles and

would like to see him in blue.
It's

early, but I think the best chance is either Wills or Wirfs. I'd prefer Wills. I don't see DG trading down from #4, although I agree the likelihood is somewhat greater this year.
I think Simmons is going to be a great pro

At a LB, but who is kidding who. The OL is still going to hold this team back. Having Qb who can run doesn’t mean you want him running for his life. If the kid is worth the 8th pick or the 10th pick he’s worth the 4th almost any year.

Zack Martin when 16th in 2014. Other than Mack who before him can you really say is as good. No idea if any of these OL are thst good but trust your scouts. Now they may be a issue w the Giants but same deal a few years ago where people were saying Quentin Nelson wasn’t worth an early top 5-10 pick.

If Wills or anyone else can give a stud starter ANYWHERE on the OL its a good pick
