Saos1n : 2/22/2020 10:32 pm
Due to injury. God, I love sports! It looks like he had jeans on under the uniform! Lmao!

They won 6-3.

Best Tweet I saw
Mike in NY : 2/22/2020 10:48 pm : link
Leafs stats since 1967:
Stanley Cups - 0
Losses to zamboni drivers - 1
We Canes fans thought the team was in dire straights when he came in

can't believe they still won. Love the tweet Mike posted
Hahaha I cannot stop laughing about this

Imagine being a Toronto fan watching your team lose to the zamboni driver?
amazing!

i'm drunk but that was amazing!

GO CANES!
He was wearing his Marlies helmet and Leafs pants too.

Fucking Leafs, smh.

I am very happy for Ayres though, what a story.

Not much of an NHL fan. How is it possible that teams are allowed to essentially use a non-roster player in a game?

Great story regardless.

Someone help me out here

The game is in Toronto and their minor league team's Zamboni driver just happens to be an emergency goalie for the Canes?

Or did he become that after they ran out of goalies because someone suggested him?

Ok, I looked it up. It seems that every NHL stadium has an Emergency Goalie that can play for either team:

Quote:
If they can't find a replacement, NHL teams keep emergency goalies, who are "any available goalie who is eligible" to be at the arena and fill in for either club.

That’s got to be the most ludicrous thing I’ve ever heard. Pulling guys not on the roster out of the stands? Wtf? Why wouldn’t they allow a 3rd goalie that is inactive for the game to be the emergency goalie? Or force an active player at another position to get in goal? It just makes no sense
The Emergency

backup Goalie (EBUG) is one of the all time greatest things about hockey.

Why would a fan not like that?

It's extremely rare it ever comes into play - it happened a couple years ago for the Blackhawks and I can't remember another time they were needed.

There are a lot of reasons, but one of the most prominent is salary cap.
I think it's a pretty cool solution
montanagiant : 2/23/2020 1:05 pm : link
And it's fair to both teams.

They get $500 and get to keep the Jersey

Jean-Claude Van Damme did it for the Penguins in 1995 as well. Saved a breakaway shot against the Blackhawks.
