I suspect these universities do not want to hire someone with his reputation and have it blow up in their face.
like he doesn't want to be here in the first place. I know these people mostly aspire to the *next* role in the career progression, but usually when they get a job it seems they at least do it for even a short period of time before interviewing for their next role.
There were reports about this guy leaving before he even got here.
