No word yet on Buchnevich or Kreider's status for tonight, but it looks like at least one of them will play seeing as they haven't called up anyone from Hartford yet. If either misses, McKegg will fill in. Islander fans get their first look at their new toy who also happens to be a Ranger killer. This is the biggest game between these two teams standings-wise that we've had in a couple of years. Hoping Georgiev can recapture his form from his first 4 games against the Islanders, not that last one!
We already knew you were bitches
Screw you Toronto!

We will do this our fuckin selves
Dallas beat Carolina 4-1
Minnesota beating Columbus 4-1 after 2 periods
WC2: Columbus 76 points, 18 games remaining (and they're losing tonight)
______________________________________________________________________
Carolina: 74 points, 20 games remaining
Rangers: 72 points, 20 games remaining
Florida: 70 points, 20 games remaining (playing at Arizona tonight)

Carolina: 74 points, 20 games remaining
Rangers: 72 points, 20 games remaining
Florida: 70 points, 20 games remaining (playing at Arizona tonight)
They're smashing their way back into it. Now Habs, then Flyers. And may Columbus and Carolina lose 'em all.

Schedule gets much harder in March, so if they get in the playoffs, they are a threat. They would have to perform at a high playoff level to get in the playoffs (lots of games against Pittsburgh, Washington, Philly, a west swing, I think Tampa is in there too)
I'm pumped and exhausted at the same time. Haha
You want to see them win ugly. Most of the year they could only win pretty.
Seeing a lot more gritty wins with this team and that will be what playoff hockey looks like.
They played like crap at the end but there were long stretches, especially in the second period, where they played great and really dominated possession.
If they play like they did tonight winning isn't sustainable.

Yeah you do. Not every game of course but the great teams still win without their A game every single night.
We almost never won earlier in the year unless we dominated offensively. Now we are winning both types of games. That's what the top team do.
I thought Isles were better team tonight. Pag looked great. Glad they at least got a point despite the awful puck luck and refereeing. @STL and vs BOS next two, so they’ll need more of what they brought tonight.
Not as a rule for sure but the great teams still find ways to win without their A game every single night. We did that vs. the sharks and tonight. But yes too often means your team has issues in inconsistency . Why do you believe you are smarter than everyone else?
Beauvillier has been really good all year, but that turnover in OT was bad. They started scrambling and never recovered.
I’m a fan of Pageau. The goal was mostly luck, but liked the play all night and loved him going after a bigger guy to protect a teammate he may not have even met yet.
Trouba hit: watching that twtr video pj put up: close call. Trouba is a bigger guy and I thought he did a legit job of getting low. Any time the body has high impact in the opposite direction, the head is going to snap back, and I didn't see enough to convince me leading or primary contact was to the head.
Damn, Fox is good.
-Trouba hit was clean. The rules don't say you cannot make contact with the head, it just can't be a targeted hit to the head. Trouba clearly kept his arms down, did not skate, did not leave his feet, and Dal Colle was just in a very vulnerable position because his head was down and he didn't have great control of the puck, so he was leaning over.
-Georgiev stole that game, 2 of the goals allowed were not his fault at all, one taking a weird bounce off the boards, the other Staal wiped him out of the play.
-Panarin should win the Hart if the Rangers make the playoffs, maybe even if they don't.
-Fox and Lindgren are clearly the best D pair the Rangers have, Fox in particular is incredible with the way he moves the puck and his decision making.
-How is Barzal not on the ice to start OT? As a Rangers fan, that guy is terrifying every time he has the puck.
Of course, that possession never even happened last night.
That looked like the hardest shot I've ever seen. I'm sure it's not, but Jesus.
Rangers were badly outplayed. The bottom six sucks.
I thought the Trouba hit should have been reviewed by the league. It was borderline IMO.
What's even more impressive about that shot is Varlamov played it perfectly. He was a good 5-10 feet out of the crease. Cut down the angle as best as he could, and Mika still found the only open space possible for a goal.
Here's a youtube video of it. Amazing shot but Panarin's play ... even more amazing IMO. Three guys on him and he tees it up *perfectly* for Mika.
Breadman to Mika for the goal - ( New Window )

was an absolute bomb. The play Panarin made to set it up may have even been more impressive than the shot itself. Just a phenomenal play made by 2 phenomenal players.

I’m not sure if he knew Mika was coming down but it was a brilliant play to put in the middle of the open ice, especially since he had all 3 Islanders on him.

At the time, Nicolletti, whom I think is very good (sees things instantly), said he couldn't remember ever seeing a play like that.

Well, to me, it hung out in space for what seemed like an eternity. He's Gretsky-like in his ability to see the ice, find his teammates. Recall his two assists, I think both to Fast for the goals vs. Carolina (?), on the 2nd he held the puck, held the puck, deked, and got Marazek to come out along his right post, Artemi slid it between his legs into the crease for the arriving Jesper. Crazy stuff.

His hockey sense is on a different level than I've seen in a long time. As the 3 Islanders collapsed down on him, I thought when he got rid of the puck "Well, someone's gotta be open!"...not only was someone open, but he put the puck in the absolute perfect spot for Mika to rip it. There were people saying the Rangers overpaid for Panarin, hahaha!
Watching that YouTube again, the rabbit-out-of-the-hat miracle was somehow retaining possession vs two defenders even when the puck was loose at their legs, he somehow managed to prevent the Isle from controlling it, before sliding it into upper slot.
Optional Practice today: Buch is on the ice

Great news about Buch, I just saw on twitter that he's making the trip to Montreal and will be a game time decision. Georgiev is confirmed in goal. No word on who will be in goal in Philly Friday night.
Agreed, I think the Rangers defensemen have to play a lot better than they have all season to beat some of the opponents they're going to see in March
Head-to-head there doesn't seem to be any problems for the Rangers in dealing with them. You might want to take a look at the standings. The Islanders have one more win than the Rangers do. Oh yeah, they're in another league.
Yawn.
