The 17 game Regular Season expansion will likely start in 2023
game as an option to a number of different outlets.
I read a report that said the 17th game will be a second Inter Conference game. Rotating the additional match up by division and matching teams by finishing place from prervious season.
So, if the NFC East plays the AFC East as part of the normal scheduling, then they would get one of the other divisions for the 17th game. Say that is the AFC North for example. The teams would be matched by where they finished within their divisions the season before. 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2 etc..
The resolution for player compensation for the 17th game
for contracts in place appears to be an additional game check at the same amount as called for by contract, with no $250,000 cap as the owners had sought.
Quote:
The owners also agreed to eliminate the $250,000 cap on earnings for players when they get the extra game check for the 17-game season.

I felt that was always the biggest hurdle. The owners wouldn't be dumb enough to think the players would play for less then there agreed to paid check for an additional game. It was probably a negotiating tactic that the players say we want an additional full pay check and owners would easily give that back to maybe sneak something else in they didn't want to give up. Showing they are "working" with the players when they never expected them to play for a $250,000 cap...which is ridiculous.
I thought one of the main reasons for a 17 game schedule was to add a 2nd bye so that the superbowl would then be played on presidents weekend...which could easily be considered a future official work holiday since kids already have it off so the game stays on a sunday but almost everyone now will get Monday off.

According to ESPN, there is no 2nd bye.
thats so odd, the season is tailor made to end on presidents weekend. Seems like a missed opportunity unless they plan on starting the year a week later...
the fairest way to do it would have it be all NFC home games one year, all AFC the next, so the extra home game doesn't impact playoff standings (though further unbalancing the schedules obviously does). If not that, I assume they'll at least do it by division - not perfect since obviously playoff races aren't just within the division, but better than totally random.

So if this were the actual resolution, and I’m being facetious here, would it not be typical NYG luck where they’d be a playoff team in any other year but they got saddled with a road game in like KC while the team that got the playoff berth in their place had to go play at the Bengals?

Doubt it's anything that convoluted. $250k game check means players earning a base salary >$4M which is only 264 players (16% of the league). Owners probably figured they could save a few million each by putting in a cap and that it wouldn't be a major sticking point since 84% of the league makes below that figure.

That would imply we made the postseason the prior season, so it's a major improvement from the last few seasons...
It makes sense for both sides to get this done now
are running for President of the NFLPA and have indicated that they strongly oppose this agreement. The Current NFPLA President is retired and no longer in the NFL and thus can't run again.
I'm sure that a good part of the push here is to get this CBA done before Sherman or Okung get elected. The Election is in another couple of weeks.
Amen. Why would lineman in particular want to play an extra three hours getting into car crashes is beyond me...
The NFLPA should just disband at this point.
I'm with you on the 17th game...however it is replacing the 4th preseason game (really the 3rd) so that is something. I'd rather a real game than a preseason one. At least the players will get paid for it.
I think the new TV deals will start to be negotiated the second the ink is dry on the New CBA.
ESPN article says 2021 for 17 game season.

That is what I read. It could be an Amazon type deal or the like as well as other big players without games right now.

I think it was proposed that one game would be a neutral sight type game where they might play at a college stadium or play out of the country.

Doesn’t half the league get an unfair advantage with an extra home game?l

Was wondering that myself
Agreed. It's just naked greed on the owners' part. No reason to go beyond 16 games or add more playoff teams. Don't fix what isn't broken.
