dumb religious customs. That's one of them. If you don't give up anything for Lent are you going to rot in hell for eternity?
Not every religious ritual is the difference between heaven and hell. Most Christian sects do not treat avoidance of sin or undertaking positive acts (religious or not) as simply bartering for salvation; rather you seek to do these things to glorify your Maker.

So, how does giving up, say, eating potato chip glorify your maker. Is God going to give you a thumbs up at judgement day for the chips?

Mocking the piety of others doesn't make you clever, it makes you a dickhead.

That’s funny, because, I think the people who constantly bitch about having to give something up for lent, look down on people who dont celebrate it or are not religious because they consider themselves so pious are just as big a dickhead, possibly even more.
Don't worry, they'll tell you. Every chance they get.
Yeah, well if there's one thing we know, it's that religious people always keep their religion to themselves...
Hehe - Religious people like to brag that they have an in with the man upstairs when it's all said and done. Non-religious people like to brag that they're not insane. Been going on for quite some time.

I’m not a religious person. But I don’t see the problem with individuals being religious as long as they don’t throw it in my face. Which the vast majority do not. You lump all religious people in with one broad stroke about being insane. That type of commentary is uncalled for on here Taking shots at religious people during one of their most celebrated times of year is a dick thing to do.
But it has to be littered with people who need to flaunt their rejection of religion, or just challenge the beliefs of others just to stir up shit.
If you don’t understand Lent and want to, ask a question. If you think Lent is stupid and you just want to mock people for giving up potato chips to get into Heaven, maybe click on another thread. Having faith is not the failure of an IQ Test.
I just think a lot of the rituals are pretty stupid. Remember the "can't eat meat on Friday" rule? Even the Catholics eventually agreed that it was stupid.
All religions have stupid rituals. Is everybody that eats a burger going to be reincarnated as a homeless person or just if you're a Hindu?

So what if you think they are stupid? Coming on to a thread about a religious belief that many people follow and calling it stupid is uncalled for. You don't have to click the thread or participate.

So why the need to let people know that you think their religious customs are stupid? Do you think you somehow opened their eyes or improved their lives? Or do you just feel better by shitting on someone who is different than you?
Why can't you come up with a logical reason why giving up your potato chips (or whatever) for Lent has any religious significance. It's because there is none.
If you can't take people having the opposite point of view than you, then don't start threads.

The purpose of giving something up isn’t about the thing you give up. It’s about showing restraint and conviction. Exercising strong will power. In a religious setting it is important to show this restraint.
Why can’t you show me a reason why I should believe you’re sincere in your line of questioning and your derogatory comments about other people’s faith? You think you’re funny and clever. You’re not. You’re flippant and pompous.

If members didn't post any topics you opposed, you wouldn't own a single post to your name on here. Lol.
ur so witty and wacky - hey man do u post on 4chan? /pol/ right?
find me on t_d brah lol love u fellow memelord
----> it's funny as fuck to see you call someone else out like that when I saw you get in some dipshit dumbass pissing match that's totally in the same vein of this around, like, a couple weeks ago maybe? idk, the only reason it stuck out to me is bc you have a similar username to someone else with Route 9 and I didn't remember him being such a "lol i'm an edgelord but i'm not11!1"

You're a pot calling a kettle black because I've recently, not sure how long ago, saw you get into some petty little pissing match in some other thread about something far dumber than this.
That was just some Uptown Girl who keeps coming after me for unprovoked reasons. Hey, whatever. I'm not afraid to drop the gloves and get into some battles. It's a jungle on here and I've understood that for years.
As for that other nonsense you said... right.
While I agree with what that guy said but jesus dude
why the fuck would you come on this thread to say that shit. I don't think SFGF was looking for some ridiculous religion debate on this thread, and when you say that you know exactly what you are doing.
Agreed.
know what you mean. Gotta pay the bills.
Thank you, ladies and gents...I'm here all day.
I laughed.

Did you go back to pizza after Lent was over?
Maybe a hobby of some sort :)

I gave it up 27 years ago when they wanted 4K to annul my first marriage so I could get married to my current wife.

And I am not even slightly religious.
LOL. I'd rather give up a hand.

Gotta trim the circle and this is a good way to let it do the work itself.
