Question for Draftnicks: Lions Impact on Giants

If Miami trades with Detroit then they move to pick 5, Miami selects a QB at pick 3.

San Diego may want Herbert but may not want to wait. Other teams may jump them.

but a lot depends on how Herbert is viewed. If Burrow and Tua are off the board the only real option as of now is Herbert. Is he considered a franchise QB? I dont think so so I would say the value of our pick decreases and we stand pat and take the 2nd best positional player.

I would rather wash takes young, Det takes Okuda and teams interested in Tua make a push for our pick. I guess I dont see Herbert as a top 10 pick. I also think the Chargers are a win now team and want a Vet QB in FA so some of the teams that need QBs now will not come draft time.

isn't the Dolphins then the Giants could convince the Dolphins another team is trying to trade up and force the Dolphins to give up picks to move up one spot.

I think if Dolphins move up to 3 and take a QB then other QB needy teams could panic and trade up with the Giants.

trade out of the 3rd pick, and in your scenario the team trading up takes a QB, it makes #4 more valuable. Say a team jumps up and takes Tua at #3. Herbert is now the only blue chip QB left available. This assumes that many teams will like Herbert and Tua the same, but I can actually easily see Herbert going before Tua. Herbert is rising.

In any case, I think there are three very valuable QBs in this draft in Burrow, Tua, and Herbert. So if there's only 1 of them left when the Giants are on the clock, it does make that pick more valuable.

However, if Miami trades up to 3, then it mitigates the value a bit. Teams have to want to jump somebody. They have to have a realistic belief that the player they want won't be available at their spot. It would be best for the Giants if Miami stayed at 5.

Even though it’s the Lions we’re talking about, there is no guarantee they’ll finish low enough to get a crack at their future franchise guy, at least without giving up a boatload of picks to get one..Who knows where Stafford’s back is? By training camp, it MIGHT be too late with the draft behind them.

I strongly believe he's going to have several believers. His numbers were very strong, and he's 6'6", weighed in at 236 lbs, with 10" hands...he's mobile, he has a lot of arm. He is just what teams are looking for as far as the prototype. They will want to work with him, and he has none of the medical worry that Tua has. I think he'll go in the top 5, but this could happen at 5 or he could go higher and in front of Tua.

Say what? There is no such thing as the value of our pick decreases. It can only stay the same or increase.

One less trading partner would be available and the QB with the most perceived value after Burrow would be off the board. We may still get a team willing to trade up, but it will be for less.

all the teams which had targeted that QB will be out of the running. It doesn't eliminate the chance other teams could be interested in trading up for a different QB they covet. In other words if Tua goes #3 in a trade then only the Herbert/Love factions will be in play for #4.

and yes the trade value of a pick definitely increases or decreases depending on who gets picked before it.

But the value of the #4 pick to the Giants (sans trade) goes up.

MIA - if they wait too long, someone could trade up to 1 or 2

DET - may say they are looking at QB's (like I just read WAS is) maybe to force a trade (to happen sooner) or (so they get CY)

Then the other leapfroggers LAC, JAC, CAR, OAK or ? may jump first or wait till MIA makes a move

If I'm LAC, I would try to trade with the Giants ASAP. It would force the hand of Miami or Carolina to have to move up for their preference of Tua/Herbert while also increasing the asking price from Wash/Detroit. This puts LAC in prime position for a QB and gives the Giants good value in a 2 spot trade back. At 6 were still guaranteed to have 2 of Okudah, Simmons and Becton on the board.

The one risk is if 2 teams move up to 2 and 3 in massive overpays. In this scenario, we would have traded away a chance at Chase Young.

Washington is going to take Tua. I would if I were them. Potential franchise qb, if he passes the medicals.

at #4. Both will be instant starters on our defense. That ts all I want from the first pick. Let the draft nicks figure out the rest of the draft. See you.

Need Herbert to increase his value. I'm pretty sure the last non-QB to solicit a trade up into the top 5 was Dion Jordan like 7-8 years ago. If there isn't a QB there, there probably isn't a trade down option.

Are not taking QB’s so if the dolphins are smart they could just wait it out however the threat of other teams jumping them might force them to move up so again Detroit holds the cards and Miami has the ammo .....hmmmm

The Lions need to win now. If there is a difference maker for them sitting there that they rank higher than the rest they will likely hesitate to trade down and give the Giants the opportunity to take the player the covet. If they have 4 or 5 players rated about the same it is less of an issue ( if the trade down to 5 or 6), but I would imagine they will take their time evaluating players before making this decision.

I would be absolutely floored if Herbert isn't a top 10 pick.

Daniel Jeremiah like Love from Utah St over Herbert. Makes Herbert in top 10 less of a sure thing for me.
