I thought it would be a good idea to consolidate all the rumors pertaining to the Giants on one thread. Let's try to keep this thread clean and post only news from trusted media sources.
Jenkins is looking for a deal worth $13M/year. Definitely too rich for him.
Every contract is too rich! It’s the NFL. And next years contracts will be higher, and the year after that, and the year after that. You have to pay players. It’s simple.
If Jenkins has another year where he has 6-8 sacks, but has 40-45 tackles with it, $13M next season would look like a massive steal if the cap goes to the $250M range. $13M AAV can look like $17-$18M AAV...

Exactly, these guys arguing against spending clearly don’t understand Inflation lol. Next years guys are gonna make soooo much more. But instead we sit around and sign 3rd string blocking TE’s who made $800k last year and give them $3.5mil this year. But hey, I don’t know shit.
I know we aren’t competing for championships this year or maybe even next year, but they could’ve signed some impact players with the cap space they had and fought for one of the 3 wild card spots. Instead they continue to ignore OL and Edge, our two most important weaknesses.
I’m so tired of seeing beat writers tell us that said player is priced above our range. Like they aren’t trying to get better, at least they aren’t acting like it. And I’m never one to be one of those “sky is falling” guys, but when I spend my hard earned money each year on season tickets I expect an effort. Now they’re saying that Jenkins is costing too much as well? I mean cmon. I totally agree with not paying Floyd $13mil, well done there. But to not try and get a Jenkins, Fowler, Re-sign Golden, or Hell even give Kennard money to come back is ridiculous. He only got $20 mil over 3 hrs from ARZ. Shit needs to change.
End rant.
You’re ranting about Jenkins, Golden, Fowler, Kennard?
Come on.
You realize we still have the draft right?
I’d rather draft OL or Edge than tie up $20m-$30m on marginal players we will cut in a year.
This is the typical response from a Giants fan who continues to believe in an organization to a fault. Smh. Because they’ve been killing drafts right? Please stop it.
Nah, wrong guy. They're f'ed up a ton for sure. But, look at it objectively, they've been drafting WAY better than FA pickups that's for sure. I'd rather they have spent big money on an impact player - you wanna hitch your wagon to Kennard?
Good luck. Keep ranting buddy.
If you're going off of sack numbers strictly then sure
but both Smith's were/are far superior players to Jenkins. Even just using advanced stats which doesn't tell the full story, Jenkins blitzed 58 times this past year and in total amounted to 4 hurries, 4 qb knockdowns, and 16 pressures.
That comment was totally a joke right? Was it reported anywhere that DG offered him a deal?
. Is this true ? Maybe Judge can get him to be all he can be in NYC. He is a true game changer if her wants to be. Put him and Williams on the line together and draft Simmons. We are contenders next year. Instantly.
a quick point about the state of the roster if we all step back
there are 22 offensive/defensive starters. Heading into FA, you could make an argument that we had 16 positions with relatively clear starters (i'm counting Love at FS, though I think that one is certainly debatable):
9 players on offense (all except C, RT)
7 on defense (needed 1 CB, 2 LB, 1 DL)
Of those 16 starters by the way, 12 were draft picks in the last few years. 2 were trades (Zeitler/Peppers) and 2 were FA's (Solder, Tate).
Tagging LW and signing Bradberry/Martinez/Fackrell hit each of the 4 starting spots on D. It is absolutely fair to disagree and argue on which players should have been signed for those open slots, but IMO no matter who we signed the more consequential factor of where this team is going next year is how the new coaching staff does developing and getting the most out of those 12 homegrown players who were already here and the additional players added in the draft next month - at least 2 of whom are likely to be day 1 starters.

Seattle #Seahawks starting free safety Tedric Thompson has been given permission to seek a trade, source said. Would likely be for a late-round draft pick.

If Clowney was a game changer, Houston would not have traded him and Seattle would not have let him go. Now, 3 strikes and you’re out.

Are generally hard for Safeties to come back from 100% effective they were before injury. He’s still young so has that going for him in regards to recovery.

If he could be bad for a late round pick sign me up. That would allow Love to play the slot more often and Graham could deploy 3 safety sets like the Giants did years ago when they signed Deon Grant.
specifically a rangy centerfielder would allow Love to play slot and Peppers to play in the box - both seemed to do well in those roles.
Clinton Dix would be a fit but you've got to think that if Judge had a good review on him from the Saban crew he might have been an initial target. I believe Graham was on the staff when he was in GB too.
Surprised we’ve heard nothing on Oline Free Agents yet?!
We need to get a RT or Center in Free Agency. Are the Giants waiting for prices to drop? I suppose they’re looking at guys that could be a 1 or 2 year rental and focusing on drafting guys that could become eventual starters?!

I think it’s almost a guarantee that we draft Oline, however, as DG has stated, don’t go shopping hungry.

Cameron Fleming sets a floor under the right tackle position for a year. It's a low floor, but at least he's a legitimate NFL player. Might point toward drafting a RT prospect who needs a year of development. The 2020 class seems fairly deep in that type.
but he had a podcast last night on what's going on around the NFL. Keep in mind, a few weeks ago he said that Brady was not coming back to the Pats (he is a consultant with Belichick) and he said he thought he was going to the Titans or Bucs. His next prediction is Jameis is going to New England, but anyway on the Giants
- He thinks Denver is going to release Joe Flacco soon. When they do, the Giants will look to pick him up as a backup to Jones. He noted that Flacco is a similar enough type player to Jones in case there is an injury and he has to step in to run the system. And he will provide a good veteran holding the clipboard for Jones. Makes sense
- The Giants and Seahawks are waiting on Clowney's price to come down. No one is giving him $20M. If he comes down to around $16M, the Giants will be back in on him.

And to the point of the Pats. Maybe Bill’s plan up there is to bottom out and position himself for Lawrence or Fields in 2021? I’m trying to find the team(s) looking to get bad enough for those guys and SD is another “contender”along with Jacksonville, and maybe Carolina and Chicago thus far.

I like Dave Te. Hope he is right on both fronts.
I believe Belichek wants to troll the entire league and win w/ a loser
I don't know if he will pick Jameis or Dalton, but I think there is nothing Belichek would love to do more than to pick up a guy that everyone else says is a loser and can't win a big game, and win a championship with that person.
And before anyone says it's not possible, Parcells almost did it with Vinny testaverde.
Obviously Stidham could also be in play and I'm sure they will let him (and maybe another draft pick) compete for the job.
But I believe that is what Belichek wants to do and the fact that it would also lead some to (wrongly) throw cold water on Brady is icing on the cake for him.

Perhaps, but maybe not because the team has gone yet another year without a serious upgrade to a very bad OL.
If I was Billy B, I would consider Winston but only if Winston came
I do not think there is much left in the bank for NYG. Unless they get LW to a long term deal at the expected $12-13m(freeing about $3, and get Solder to take a pay cut, I do not see where they would get money for a Clowney and still have $6-7 for the draft picks. I really do not think there is enough for Golden, unless he takes about a $8m contract.
They signed McCoy, doubt Flacco is in the picture - he could go to NE.
How much is Alex Tanney cap hit? I see the one who loses out on backup job as getting cut, hopefully it will free up some space. Are teams allowed to go into camp over the cap as long as they don’t exceed it week 1?

I disagree. I think that is about right for a 25 year old who has accrued 15 sacks in 2 years.
Check the contracts that the Smith's got from Green Bay with similar production but they were 1 year older.

In 2018 before signing their deals:
ZS: blitzed 49 times, 12 hurries, 13 qb knockdowns, and 35 pressures.
PS: blitzed 32 times, 12 hurries, 9 knockdowns, 26 pressures.
I'm using profootballreference but if you were to use PFF the numbers are even more lopsided.

Maybe not a game changer, but a very good player. The issue appears to be that he has overpriced himself.
He would have a big positive impact on the Giants defense, but more than 20 million a year is too much.

apparently its according to Marc Ross.
It'd be great to have Markus back. Can't have too many quality pass rushers.
I dont see that anywhere on the Giants Insider twitter page and NYG_Pete isnt an insider
Almost seems like Joe Judge is saying:
"Please do not saddle me with too many long term deals since I really don't know how these players will blend in with the team."
2 year deals are zero risk for teams...
Now, your logic is true....as the contract are front loaded....which allows everyone to be cut with little dead money

This, coming from the guy who defined that role in 2018.
