Hearing the deal between the #49ers and Arik Armstead is for 5 years and averages around $17M a year. Which makes sense since the franchise number for his position, DE, is $17.8M.

Wasn’t Fant one of the worst OT’s a few years ago? Like Flowers bad?
Well considering Ereck Flowers’s Contract then yes Fant on that level. Man, what we are paying Solder now doesn’t seem so bad assuming a better coaching staff can right him.
I thought the Giants might have an interest in him since he was drafted by Gettleman. He's been an okay player, kind of a JAG+. Solid, hardly spectacular.
Interesting. I've seen several draft pundits speculating Chucky may be interested in Winston. In the end it's his draft mate that gets the call to backup and perhaps push Carr.
Bills are trading a 1st-round pick, a 5th-round pick, a 6th-round pick and a 2021 4th-round pick for Vikings WR Stefon Diggs and a 2020 7th-round pick, source tells ESPN

He'll need a time machine to get right.
So that's about $62M for three players for dallas...
that hasnt gotten a lot of attention with all the other moves. He'll pair well with Fletcher Cox. Not going to be an easy interior to run on. And when one of them needs a blow youre still looking at Malik Jackson.

Re-signing Zeke was a big mistake. If I'm Dallas, I'm testing the market to see what kind of trade value is available.

Not happening. Looks like they double downed on Zeke with a restructuring (likely converted most of his 2020 base to a bonus payment spread over 5 years).

Hey, 20 years is a lonnnng time in one organization
for a guy like Brady. When it's starts to get stale...
Montana was the better QB. He was a genius. He could move, throw on the run, was a magnificent deep ball thrower, and had pinpoint accuracy in an era where QBs really played under duress.
Elway was a better QB. There was absolutely nothing he couldn’t do as a QB. He took three of the worst teams I’ve ever seen to the SB. They lost but the way he dragged them there was lights out. And like Montana, he played in an era where you could really treat the QB like any other player with the ball...

Respectfully, can we move this and other discussions like it to a separate thread?
Why sign these guys for 2 years? They have no QB. If they draft one, he needs time to develop. These high priced guys will be gone by the time he develops.
But, they are winning in March, this is for sure!
Byron Jones: 5 years, $82.5M
Kyle Van Noy: 4 years, $51M
Shaq Lawson: 3 years, $30M
Ereck Flowers: 3 years, $30M
Emmanuel Ogbah: 2 years, $15M
Also: Miami has picks 5, 18, 26, 39 and 56 in the first two rounds of the 2020 draft.”
Crazy good value here. They definitely can make the trade to nab their QB. If they have Herbert, Tua or Love very highly, he goes 2. Only way not is if Skins are enamored with a QB as well or enamored with Young and refuse to pass up. Easily can be 5 and 26 for 2 in which WASH don’t say no.
If Detroit at that point wants to replace Slay with Okudah, things can get very interesting.

Because they are relatively easily replaced in 2 years. None of them are cornerstones and the length of their contracts reflects that.

Lamar Jackson and Pat Mahomes were both competing for the SB by their respective Year 2s. Putting a good team around a guy can help him develop.

.
How come Elway's teams' got lambasted the first three times he was in a Super Bowl?
He didn't win until TD arrived on the scene at the end of his career,
that's a fact. 'Three of the worst teams ever' is an embellishment I would say. His decision making wasn't always the best.
He was a better athlete, not a better QB.
I would say Montana and Brady are 1A and 1B.
I wouldn't say he was more accurate then Brady, and Brady had a much stronger arm. He wasn't as athletic as
Joe Cool, and Montana could hurt you with his feet.
Montana could beat you more ways, I agree there.
Yes, it was a different era.

All that cost cutting and dumping players like Minkah Fitzpatrick, Kenyan Drake, etc. to spend all this money on these guys? The only really good player of the bunch is Jones. Van Noy’s stint in Detroit still makes me leery of spending big $$ on him. Flowers needs no explanation and Lawson and Ogbah are nothing that special.
For Miami, it was all about acquiring draft capital, similar to what Gettleman did in 2018, but on a much larger scale. That's what bad team should do. Use established players as resources that allow you to build through the draft as much as you can. Short term pain, long term gain.

My understanding is that they preferred to keep Minkah Fitzpatrick but he demanded a trade and they moved quickly before his value was degraded by an ugly drawn out process.

Jax trade C Campbell and now Foles...ammunition for a run at a QB
out of cap space, do they. They've got major $ allocated to QB (Dak), RB (Zeke), WR (Cooper), TE (Barwin isn't exactly cheap anymore), OL (essentially every guy makes big $), DL (Lawrence), LB (Smith).
he's 28 w/ 3 years 27m remaining, so basically the mcgovern deal but a better player although he's had some injury issues.
That would be awesome, perhaps part of a trade up. Jax receives 4th overall pick Giants receive 9th, 20th, and Linder.

Stefen Wisniewski signed a 2 year deal with the Steelers. I was hoping that he would be signed to be the backup center or stopgap if they draft a center early.
The remaining center options that are upgrades over Pulley are Brett Jones, Daniel Kilgore, Mike Person, Hroniss Grasu, and AQ Shipley. Evan Brown is worth bringing back IMO.
I really don’t want to go into next season with Pulley as the backup center. Pulley may he smart and good at making the proper line calls but he is just not an NFL caliber player. He’s too easily pushed back into the pocket and he struggles mightily at getting any push. I was excited when Pulley replaced Halapio last season because I hoped that he had gotten stronger over the previous year but he immediately made me wish for Halapio to return to the starting lineup.
I am not even a big fan of Halapio but he is a better player than Pulley which isn’t saying much.
With the lack of options left in free agency I think the starting center is coming in the draft. Let’s hope that they upgrade the backup spot as well. Eric on LI made a great suggestion in trying to trade for Linder from Jax. Ideally he would be part of a trade down package with the Jaguars. The 4th pick for Jacksonville’s 9th, 20th, a 2021 3rd, and Linder sounds fair to me. The Giants would still land an OT in round 1 with one of those picks while also filling a big hole in the middle. Hernandez, Linder, and Zeitler inside is an impressive group.
Well, at least one New York football team is trying to address their putrid O-line through Free Agency.
NEW YORK (AP) — "Joe Douglas entered free agency focused on improving the New York Jets' shaky offensive line.
The makeover with the big boys up front is on. In a big way."

This was a guy I really liked. Maybe more than Conklin.
Could mean they're letting McGovern walk, unless one of them gets moved to RG.
I guess that eliminates Okudah?

No he’s saying don’t overpay for mediocre players that WANTED to go elsewhere.
Miami getting Van Noy means nothing to the NYG, who weren’t seriously in on him to begin with.
Also, I had no clue DG shares his draft plans with you. Must be nice.

Wasn’t Fant one of the worst OT’s a few years ago? Like Flowers bad?
Yes, that's exactly what it means. It should be obvious to everyone, the Giants are done looking for defensive upgrades in free agency.

Reconnecting with Patricia. Collins had a very good year in New England. He's as versatile as any LB in the NFL. Curious to see the terms...

Solder has been Fant and Flowers bad, and is going into his 10th season.
He'll need a time machine to get right.
Terrific player but way, way too much money for a WR.
I think re-signing Jarwin early today was a sneaky good move by the Boys.
Re-signing Zeke was a big mistake. If I'm Dallas, I'm testing the market to see what kind of trade value is available.
And go RBBC with Pollard leading the way...

Not happening. Looks like they double downed on Zeke with a restructuring (likely converted most of his 2020 base to a bonus payment spread over 5 years).
Good move and a good price.

I'd say Joe Montana was a pretty close second, and he played at a time when you could murder QB's and WR's alike.

They will move up to the 3rd pick and get Tua. What an offseason for Miami. Tom Brady leaves the AFC East is still the biggest move lol.
But, they are winning in March, this is for sure!

But, they are winning in March, this is for sure!
Because they are relatively easily replaced in 2 years. None of them are cornerstones and the length of their contracts reflects that.

Lamar Jackson and Pat Mahomes were both competing for the SB by their respective Year 2s. Putting a good team around a guy can help him develop.

My understanding is that they preferred to keep Minkah Fitzpatrick but he demanded a trade and they moved quickly before his value was degraded by an ugly drawn out process.

Not necessarily. Teddy can bridge the gap to a younger QB down there.
I've always liked Rivers, but I think he's shot. So I don't like this move by the Colts, even if Rivers will play in mostly cozy temperatures, which he had in San Diego, btw.
So there's even more of a financial boost there.

I think you have call the jags about yannick and #9 for #4.
But i do like the idea of trading back with them. 9 is perfect for the OT group plus we can pick up some valuable picks or in this or yannick case a valuable player too
If they deal Slay, I think it almost guarantees Okudah. That is if they aren’t blown away with a package to trade down, which is a definite possibility.

Yet still have 8 including picks in each of the first 3 rounds. Oh and 3 4th round picks.
