So they let 29-y.o. Slay walk only to sign 29-y.o. (turns 30 at season start) Trufant (2 yrs, $21M). I have no idea what that franchise is doing, and neither do they or anyone else.
And their LBs and DTs are a mess. So Simmons and Brown are still in play for them.
If I’m Detroit I still make a trade with the Dolphins or the Chargers knowing that I will get one of Brown, Simmons, or Okuda.
I hate the Eagles but I got to give them credit. They know what they need and aggressively go out and get it. Their plans don’t always work but more often than not they do
we bring in bums like Fleming, Martinez, Fackrell etc and the Eagles continue to get impact players.
It's going to be a long road out of this mess and the team doesn't look like it's building much of consequence right now.
You are starting to sound like Dave in Hoboken. The Eagles are a playoff team. The Giants are just putting people on the field that are upgrades to what was there previously. I also don't think Fackrell is a bum and neither is Martinez.
Slay had a down year last year - PFF graded him 97th out of 133 cornerbacks in coverage. This should cost the Eagles a 2nd or 3rd round pick in addition to making Slay one of the highest paid CBs in the league. Pretty risky coming off the year he had. If you watched Detroit games over the years, Slay is constantly hurt in game; nagging lower body injuries where he's always coming off the field.
I'd much rather sign a younger, more durable Bradberry without giving up trade assets to a more responsible contract.

Have to see tbe money going to Slay from Ohilly before judgements can be made. Would think he more in the 3 for 45 range then 2 for 21
Philly knows they’re a playoff team and they had to address
Their weakness. I thought Jones would be their guy. He wasn’t, so Howie had to make a deal. They’re an older team in win now mode and they recognize that and build their roster as such. Now their other need is pass rush. Haven’t seen any link with them to Clowney. That would kinda suck if they got him. And unfortunately, I’m guessing they go 2-0 vs the NYG again in 2020....
The deal after the deal: the Eagles and new CB Darius Slay reached agreement on a 3-year, $50 million extension that includes $30 million guaranteed, @RosenhausSports tells ESPN.
everyone looks at this and says wow look wat a 3 and 5 get you but its about timing...
slay might not have been available when we got williams....we werent in the corner market either as we had jjst drafted a bunch and needed to eval that. slay and LW trades arent apples to apples

Lions trade Darius Slay to the Eagles. Immediate thought: NFL Draft implications for Lions at 3 with Jeffrey Okudah on the board. Could be significant win for Giants' trade down options if that's the way Detroit goes.
More juice at 4 with Dolphins, Chargers likely eyeing QBs
Lions could trade with Miami, figuring that they can take Okudah at five since we just signed Bradberry and have used a ton of picks on CBs the last two drafts.
James "no Pro Bowls and 61 PFF rating" Bradberry . . .
I do think this is a worse move, at least on the face of things.
Age matters. Slay is three and a half years older than LW; two and half older than Bradberry; big drop off in his performance rating for the Lions last year.
I'm surprised Philly would do this after their experience with Nnamdi.
NNamdi was also 29 in the spring of 2011, the year of the "Dream Team" that turned into nightmare.

Meaning, he's right. So, because the Giants weren't a playoff team last year they can't do more than 'upgrade what they had on the field previously?' Whatever the fuck that means. The hoops some jump through..
He’s 29 and I think it’s arguable his best football is behind him.
However, if they’re both reasonable, I’m right there with you.
On the bright side Detroit is taking Okudah #3 now so we can move on from that.

Is not the same thing, just because their age is similar....

The Eagles missed out on the top CBs. Meanwhile we signed one. That's why they're attempting to trade for Slay.

A 30 year old coming off a terrible season?

Giants would be in a prime trade down spot.
LW has had an off-career, based on his draft position, and yet that trade is still defended.
I have a pretty good hunch Slay bounces back and shows his Pro Bowl form. And we keep waiting for LW to be anything other than a JAG-plus.

BUT - Slay won't count against the comp pick formula, Bradberry will.
Detroit's probably in on Okudah, meaning the draft starts at #4 with Tua and Herbert there and Miami sitting at #5.
