The interest in Markus Golden is there. Price hasn’t been right to this point. But he’s willing to be patient. Giants among teams monitoring. After all, this is a player who had double-digit sacks. Was sixth in NFL w/27 QB hits + T-14th with 13 TFLs. Quality player on market.
I would really like to have Golden back

If the numbers can work for all sides.
Are the Giants holding him up until Clowney decision?

Blue as well. I like his skillset as an edge guy, always hustles. Add Simmons to the LB unit and our front 7 will be looking like a formidable unit.

I think the Clowney ship has unfortunately sailed. The only way they can make an offer in his range is to denounce Williams' franchise tag & I don't think DG will do that! They've used up most of their cap space!
I think Fackrell
allstarjim : 3/20/2020 10:31 am : link
is fine to replace him for much less cost.
If they wanted Clowney
CMicks3110 : 3/20/2020 10:32 am : link
and I'm not sure they do. They could get him by cutting Solder's salary, and backloading his contract. 1st year cap hit doesn't need to be super high. But that doesn't seem to be their strategy. If you think Clowney will be an impact player in 2021-2022, it could make sense, but who knows. I think they would grab Clowney if they thought they could get him at a worthwhile price.

more like the Golden camp is held up until Clowney sets the market. May have to wait for Griffen as well...
Fackrell is in no way

a replacement for Golden. Look at Golden's numbers before the injury and as he got further away from the injury - the numbers are about where he left off
Would be happy to get him back

on a 2 year deal worth 7-8M per.
Golden is a solid player and would bring a proven Veteran
Rjanyg : 3/20/2020 10:40 am : link
who is an excellent locker room guy.

The only thing I see as a concern is his age along with the price tag. The thing that makes Clowney interesting is he is 27 years old is much more explosive. Golden is fundamentally sound, is a good leader, is coming off a good year, but now wants to get paid. I believe Atlanta was interested but has since signed Fowler to a huge deal. If Golden wants more than $ 8 Million per year and a 3 year ( 3 year $24 Mill )deal I doubt he gets that from that from NYG.

I would give that to him and frontload the deal with guarantees the first year/two.

I would be happy with a high priced short term "prove it again" deal, but considering age and such not sure if this happens.
Signing Golden would be a Status Quo move
Rudy5757 : 3/20/2020 10:55 am : link
Golden is a role player, he will do well in a rotation. We dont have the players to rotate with him so here he is a starter and not a good starter. Golden needs to be a pass rusher only. He is a high effort guy and he gives everything he has but he is just not a top player.

10 sacks are great but look at all of those sacks and you will see that they are either effort sacks where most QBs would have thrown it long before he got there or he was unblocked. He is also well below average against the run. If we had a top line pass rusher he may be good opposite him but to have him as our #1 option and pay him top $$ is not a smart move.

Fackerell is a similar player and I believe is his replacement.

Golden is not a superstar. Fackrell is not a superstar. Only of those guys wants to be paid like it.
Fackrell is not as good as Golden lol.

Golden is not a superstar - agreed

Think he is in that tier just below the elite pass rushers. and he is a good run defender

why is the debate fackrell vs. golden?
JJ2525 : 3/20/2020 11:21 am : link
IF fackrell can be the player he was in 2018, wouldn't having he and golden be a big improvement over last year? Having 2 double digit sack guys + some improvement from X and carter + maybe a guy like baun in the draft. Isn't that the makings of a pretty good rotation even if it lacks the 1 main superstar?
I don't think Fackrell was signed to replace Golden, per se.
Klaatu : 3/20/2020 11:24 am : link
Replace his production, possibly, as a situational pass-rusher, but not necessarily as a starter. I believe he was brought in as competition for Carter and Ximines at OLB, and may the best two get the majority of snaps.

I really like the Bradberry, Fackrell, Tollolo and Fleming signings
GiantBlue : 3/20/2020 11:29 am : link
But other than that, I would have held off and waited for the market to come to the Giants...especially at DE/OLB.

Clowney is crazy to think someone is going to pay him Amari Cooper money for the numbers he has generated thus far.

Martinez and LW tagging where he was tagged was totally unnecessary and knee jerk. Martinez would probably have been there next week and I don't think the world was going tear down the door if we put the restricted tag on LW.

I like the front loaded contracts, but there will be deals next week and the week after when certain players realize there are only so many spots in this crazy world of NFL Musical Chairs....especially with the draft adding 250 or so players next month.

Am I crazy?
on a side note
bc4life : 3/20/2020 11:31 am : link
watched the Giant's highlights and at the end against the Redskins - they have double teams on Lawrence and Tomlinson - I think our defensive line could be one of the best in the league this year.

Yes, resign Golden.

Then draft Simmons and our defense will be complete. Grab an OT with our second round pick or try to move up into the lower part of the first round for that OT.

Spot on. Too many people forget that Golden showed real promise with the Cards before he got hurt. Now that he's fully recovered, we're seeing a guy who appears quite capable of producing double digit sacks and QB pressures/hits. Stats I posted once the year ended in support of keeping him over LW...

Guys like Golden are very valuable as role players or even as starers, if there are stars around them. You want him to be your second or third-best pass rusher, not your top rusher. But if you had a big-time OLB on one side, you could thrive with Golden on the other.
I like Golden and I hope they bring him back
Strahan91 : 3/20/2020 12:06 pm : link
but this past season his pressure rate was no better than Fackrell's.

Fackrell: 28 pressures on 191 rushes
Golden: 60 pressures on 460 rushes

Statistically speaking, pressure rate is a better predictor of future sack numbers than sack numbers Y:Y.

I went to a bunch of stores. There's no toilet paper on the shelves. It's sold out on Amazon. There's no toilet paper to buy.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU AREN'T BUYING TOILET PAPER.

That's one year - no knock on Fackrell, but Golden was doing that consistently before and after the injury

This is from 2019. In 2018 Fackrell had 10.5 sacks. Golden was ineffective (although he was recovering from an injury). So both players have 2 years worth of sample size if you discount 2018 for Golden which I would.
Take a look at his production

never have too many pass rushers.

Frackell is a backup/spot starter guy. I would love to see Golden/Frackell/X man create some type of pass rush.
