5-most-improved-nfl-teams-in-free-agency-so-far - ( New Window )
Have they improved? Perhaps a little bit.
The_Boss : 3/21/2020 9:59 am : link
The problem I see is the schedule will feature at least 12 games against teams with better rosters. The only opponents with talent in their neighborhood figure to be Chicago, Cincinnati, and Washington. Because of this, I disagree with that last line that the team might be a sneaky playoff contender this year. We might be a better team and still finish 5-11 or 6-10.
yay -- offseason winners again

This roster isn’t complete guys

I tend to agree that while we added good young players entering their prime in BradBerry and Martinez, we have a few holes to fill and positions to improve before we can even mention “ playoffs “.

A pass rusher and maybe a center should be added prior to the draft and I would be fairly satisfied with the first part of the offseason.
How are the dolphins
JayBinQueens : 3/21/2020 10:14 am : link
Not on this list?
They were horrible last year and signed like 10 people who would all be upgrades vs what they had last year
Mayo hopefully never sees the field outside of special teams

More needs to be done before this team makes any meaningful improvement
Lets hope we found

some good coaching and some amazing leadership. Not sure yet where the leadership comes from but it is so necessary to succeed in Football. Lets assume for one second our coaching staffs for the last few years have been inadequate. And lets assume this coaching staff is adequate. That alone, even with the talent of years past, will be an improvement. The Giants were in a lot of games last year and it seemed we were not able to make the adjustments needed to get to the finish line. Hopefully we have the brainpower to get through that this year.
Off Season Winners

I believe that the Cleveland Browns were the big off season winners last year.
Some had them winning the AFC North.
Especially with the great Beckham trade they made, the fleecing they did os the Giants.
How did that work out?

I think the point is -

With all of the bitching, whining, and crying on BBI over the past week, maybe the Giants haven't done as terrible in free agency and some on BBI claim.

Maybe Bradbury's a little better than Jackrabbit and Martinez a little
Ira : 3/21/2020 10:22 am : link
better than Ogeltree, but there's nothing to get excited about. We did get younger which is important and we did front load contracts in a weak free agent year. They seem to have the long view in mind rather than get rich quick. So, all in all, it's been a pretty good free agency.

Maybe played decent last year. Sure, he's not a stud, but he can help out when called upon.

Remember, this is the NFL. It's a contact sport. people get injured so backups will play.

Also, if you listened to the new coach, he used the term "multiple" and changing things up each week. That may mean there are situations where they want to play guys like Mayo.
Playoffs?
Marty866b : 3/21/2020 10:33 am : link
"we're talking playoffs."?
What a joke.

No big splash signings but we have improved our blue collar players!

Now, as we approach the draft, some of the glaring holes are filled. Cam Fleming was a decent RT in NE. Put him at LT, there is an issue. Our CB position, a critical piece, is stabilized. We added a blocking tight end, an edge piece, a backup QB and a solid MLB. As the cap room dries up for teams, many of our own FA will be without a job. The price comes down. Now we go into the draft needing pass rush and OL. We have 10 picks! Everyone is focusing #4 and #36 but great drafts are made on day 3! There will be many WRs left to add depth, there will be safeties and interior OL. We need to get a star at 4, a starter at 36 and continue to add late round players who contribute in the later rounds. It's not out of the realm of thought to add a starter at #99 and the beginning of round 4! Sometimes those players are ready by the middle of the season! We drafted two round 5 players last year who look like starters! With 4 7th round picks we can improve the quality of the practice squad. As we have seen in the past, many of these players end up being contributors. Let's hope for the best! You can't lose any games in March!
We have this need to immediately measure change.
j_rud : 3/21/2020 10:55 am : link
And in the absence of quantifiable results that becomes a problem.
j_rud...Like giving teams a draft grade on the Monday after?

Point well taken...lol!

If he does... I expect to be in the postseason. You guys suck. Zero optimism.
MSN is still a thing?

Jones will be better but we need to improve surroundings!
edavisiii : 3/21/2020 11:32 am : link
1. Barkley was hurt most of the year as was EE and SS. If they are healthy that will help Jones. 2. Shurmur, for all his shortcomings was a good QB guy. Garrett the same. His development should continue. OL Coach Columbo, will be an upgrade so I expect the OL to play better. We need to nail those draft picks including day 3. That is the one area I have faith in DG. Our drafts have not been perfect but they are an improvement over M Ross's picks. With 10 picks he should add a good amount of talent. I am interested to see what happens with the 4 QBs and possible trades, how they rank the 4 Tackles against Simmons and Chase Young, and what falls to pick 36. I think we can get a RT or a center at that point. I

I wouldn't be so quick to pan the Browns on the OBJ trade. I would not be surprised if he has a significant bounce back season.
No Tampa Bay?

Does anyone not think even an aging Tom Brady will be an improvement over Winston? Winston's interceptions and especially pick sixes killed the team last year.

(Actually the field goal kicker also did not help them. And in fact his chip shot miss against the Giants in the final seconds may have cost the Giants their chance at Chase Young.)
Anyone who thinks signing
Red Dog : 3/21/2020 12:23 pm : link
Colt McCoy as a backup QB improves the team while ignoring other more important signings like Cam Fleming and the special teamer from NE is beneath contempt.
Playoffs!?
