I know a lot of fans are disappointed that we did not sign enough "big names" but this article explains their strategy going forward. Link - ( New Window )
Had an article yesterday on the same topic. The Giants front loaded contracts- roster bonuses rather than signing bonuses- so guaranteed money is not prorated over the life of the contract. Provides flexibility for management in future years; dead money will not be an issue if a player does not work out as in the case of Solder.
Are the years with a rookie an on their original contract when you better be planning on competing. Once that escalates you are essentially removing the ability to maintain 1 if not 2 additional elite players. DG is operating like this is a three year rebuild which it may be, but if so we blew our window.
And kinda shocked how DG handled FA this season. I thought he would go out there speding like a drunk sailor to try and keep his job. He went out there and spent money in a way to keep us flexible in future seasons. Now if they can get a deal done with Williams that will pay him 12 mil a year or so that would be great (although I would like to keep a big cap hit on this upcoming season)
I like front loading and roster bonus....will maximize cap in the future and minimize impact....very prudent.
So we dumped talent to get out of contracts so we could be in a better cap situation this year, and in turn burned thru that cap on decent to so-so players so we can be in a better cal situation in the future. Prudent on the cap but still lacking in talent in critical places (edge rusher and Oline). And still needing to pay/lock up Williams long term.

Could not agree more. Everybody is drooling over the cap situation, but the team hardly got better. Sure we're in great shape cap wise in 2022, but by then we've wasted 3 years of DJ's rookie deal and 4 years of Saquon. Great stuff.

Ok, then what is your plan? Get two or three highly priced guys that will do nothing because of the lack of talent and we wasted $50 mill on 2 or three guys.
All they want is incremental increases in young talent that will either improve and grow with the team and be part of the solution or be easily cut if they fail.
On an annual basis - hard decisions - now start winning games -
Going back to 2007, that team was built with draft picks but had several free agents on the online, LB, and DB who were big contributors.
That was a good strategy, and along with some good drafted rookies, formed a great SUper Bowl team.

Who exactly?
I is clear that you didn’t read/understand the article/point.
The talent is going to come from the draft. When the team is a player away, there will be $ to make a move.
