The Lions - Key to our Draft ...

Manny in CA : 3/22/2020 3:42 pm

Pretty much everybody is thinking Burrow to Cincinnati, Young to the Skins then the Lions ...

Just looking around to see what some folks think: S.I., CBS Sports, Walter football, ESPN, Bleacher Report, all go Okudah. Fox Sports - Simmons.

Only way I think they trade down is if Tua is given total 100% medical clearance. Otherwise, we'll be sitting with a Golden Football trade-down opportunity with three aces in our hand - Okudah, Simmons, Tua.

A couple of weeks back-which feels like

a decade ago now-I believe there was a report Detroit is still invested in Stafford so I think that takes Tua, Herbert, etc. off the board.
I think only teams moving up is for QBs, imo
George from PA : 3/22/2020 3:47 pm : link
Lions probably trade down and still get Okudah.

The Giants can use the Chargers and Jacksonville against each other ....
The point is ...
Manny in CA : 3/22/2020 3:50 pm : link

If Tua was 100%, he might have gone before Burrow, that's how good he is. If he shows he's good, the "football needy' will give the Lions their right testicle for him ...

Which will reduce the Giants' ultimate trading power down a notch.
Tua is going top 3
Coach Red Beaulieu : 3/22/2020 3:58 pm : link
Maybe Herbert too. This league goes flying up the board for Mitch frigging Trubisky and Durrface Darnold.
It makes sense for detroit
Jarvis : 3/22/2020 4:14 pm : link
To go to 5. If they want okudah which most people think is a real possibility then he should be there. The Giants are unlikely taking him. Not impossible, but unlikely. Last year alone a 1st, 3rd, and 4th were used on corner...and then our highest price free agent signing was another corner.

I think Jacksonville is not a king a QB. They seem like they want o see what they have in Minshew and are content to tank the season. They may take one if a QB slides to them, but i don’t see a big trade up.

The Giants could go a number of ways. Simmons vs O-Iineman seems like the big debate. People talk about how Gettleman loves his big trench players, but he also inherited a team in Carolina with Luke Keuchly (maybe the best in the game) and then drafted Shaq Thompson with a 1st round pick (who was a converted safety to LB). So, i think it is tough to say.
Tua may be talented, but his body composition is soft....
No Where Man : 3/22/2020 4:35 pm : link
No matter what his tests show, he is just prone to injuries. I cannot see a team trading up to get him. Buyer beware.

QBs 1, 2, 3? I don't think that happens. Chase Young isn't slipping out of the top 3.
the Redskins could take Tua

that shakes up everything. If someone trades up with Detroit to get Herbert young falls right to us

Love round 4
Ballentine round 6

Beal was the supplemental 3rd rounder in 2018

Don't see that likely given Rivera is a defensive-minded head coach. He knows the value a stud DE like Young brings to a defense.
The draft goes like this
Rjanyg : 3/22/2020 4:48 pm : link
1. Burrow to Bengals
2. Young to Redskins
3. Tua to Miami
4. Simmons or OT to Giants
5. Okudah to Lions
6. Herbert to Chargers
7. Derrick Brown to Panthers
8. OT to Cardinals

If the Giants trade down it will be with Jags or Raiders unless Detroit just takes one of Okudah or Simmons, then a possibility of Miami being a trade partner because we will have a bunch of teams fighting for Tua.

Makes sense to me.
nobody is going to trade up for a LB or CB
Chip : 3/22/2020 5:39 pm : link
The best scenario is if Tua is still there at 4 but Detroit is in the cat bird seat at 3.
Most likely trading partner....Chargers or Jacksonville
George from PA : 3/22/2020 6:31 pm : link
.
Tua to Washington is at least as likely as not
BillT : 3/22/2020 6:33 pm : link
That's what isn't being taken into account. If you're Rivera are you going to pass on Tua for Haskins? I wouldn't and I don't think Rivera will either. Then Young is there for Detroit and just like us, they'll take him. So, will someone want to trade up for Herbert? ??

BigBlueNH : 3/22/2020 6:39 pm : link
Under your scenario, if the Chargers want Herbert, they're taking a risk that some team will trade up to 4 or 5 to grab him in front of them. In that scenario, you don't think the Chargers would talk about trading up to 4 or 5 to make sure they get him? It prob wouldn't cost that much. IMO, if the Chargers want Herbert (and I have no idea whether that is the case), I think they trade up to make sure they get him, hopefully with us.

Agreed. They give us their 2nd.
Agree Detroit is key for the Giants ...
Spider56 : 3/22/2020 8:15 pm : link
There are 3 top tier QBs and at least 4 teams in need of a QB .... Bengals, Phins, Jax and Chargers ... I can’t see Washington letting Young slip by so that puts at least 1 good trade, maybe 2 in play.
Miami wants Tua and has a ton of draft capital
MeadowlandsMike : 3/22/2020 8:19 pm : link
The move down for Detroit is 2 spots and they know we are probably taking an OT. Still Leaving them Okudah or Simmons on the tradedown. I don't see how they don't do it.

But they used their 3rd in the supplemental draft which was taken out of the 2019 draft picks.

The Chargers could trade up with NYG for Herbert but in the scenario I feel is going to happen, it wouldn’t be necessary. Unless Detroit trades back again with a QB hungry team. Maybe the Jags would trade up and Detroit would then get picks 9 and 20 but that seems steep.

I think my scenario makes very good sense.
I see this happening ...
Spider56 : 3/23/2020 9:57 am : link
Burrows and Young go 1 - 2 to the Bengals and Skins.
Miami gets Detroit’s pick and takes Tua ...
That leaves the Chargers and Jax wanting Herbert.
The Chargers don’t have enough to offer to move up but Jax does
Jax takes Herbert at 4
Detroit takes Okudah (or Brown) at 5
LAC gets Love at 6
Panthers take Simmons at 7
Cardinals go Okudah or Brown at 8
Giants get whoever they rate as the #1 OT at 9 then Baun or a center at 20.

Nice. But I'd hope for Gross-Matos at #20 and then a center at #36
I would go
NikkiMac : 3/23/2020 10:38 am : link
Andrew Thomas and at 20 I’d go Xavier Mackinney and at #36 the top rated center or Wr on the Giants board

I question whether McKinney is athletic enough to be a FS in the NFL. If he was not shorter than ideal heightwise, I think Antoine Winfield Jr. could actually be the best FS in this draft. Personally I think the Giants should put out smoke that they don't believe any OL are worth the #4 overall pick and really like the defensive talent available this year. Really need to make Detroit feel like if they trade to 5 then the Giants will take who they want at 4.
I like Winfield too
NikkiMac : 3/23/2020 8:20 pm : link
But not in the first round
Think it will be Simmons or Okudah. as BPA
TMS : 3/24/2020 12:56 am : link
Both possibly generational all pros . You do not pass on those guys if you get a chance to draft them. You have to take advantage with the #4 pick. like we did with Barkley. How often do you get that opportunity ? This is a no brainer to me. DG is old school he knows this.
DG is taking, BPA, in his mind, at #4
TMS : 3/26/2020 11:35 pm : link
He is too old to change now. What did he do the last two drafts? Both BPAs. The pick is too low to do anything else.
