BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 3/22/2020 7:25 pm
We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the draft.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two-hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (i.e. Kansas City won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy.

Please utilize the BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-6) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible… Good luck!

Nice pick

Exactly what Cincy needs a possible franchise QB
Hope they build around him
Matt G : 3/22/2020 8:00 pm : link
He might not be Trevor Lawrence, but he has all the tools to become a top NFL QB
Yep a no brainer.
nygfaninorlando : 3/22/2020 8:00 pm : link
Not a perfect prospect like Luck, but local kid with strong skill set. Plug Burrow in from day 1 with AJ Green and Jonah Williams (1st round pick last year that missed the whole season) coming back to go with Joe Mixon and Tyler Boyd and the Bengals could have a sneaky good offense. Their defense on the other hand is going to be brutal.
I was afraid smoking in the locker room
KeoweeFan : 3/22/2020 8:08 pm : link
would have moved him out of 1st round contention!!

Otherwise good pick Matt.
Have we ever started this early before?
MadPlaid : 3/22/2020 8:29 pm : link
Not complaining. Especially considering our current circumstances.

Matt, good idea to get this started now. You are right. With no sports, we need something for a good distraction. Looking forward to all discussions and background info on the prospects. This is always a lot of fun.

Nice pick, Matt. Obvious pick, too. IMHO
Hey Madplaid... Hope you are well

Typically, we "start the clock" on or around 4/1 and post the thread 3-5 days prior "off the clock" with the goal of finishing a solid 10-14 days before the draft.

This year the NFL Draft starts a bit on the early side (4/23) so I was planning to "start the clock" on 3/30 and post the thread by middle of this week.

I will fully admit I pulled the trigger a few days early than originally planned... I'm on Day 15 of quarantine :)

yep we're all a little stir crazy right about now
Torrag : 3/22/2020 9:00 pm : link
Love the Burrow pick. Only Young has a higher grade than him. Good year to have the #1 pick and need a QB. No need to offer up picks to get your guy ya lucky bastage.
Thanks for trading my first rd pick

Thank you. Unfortunately, I’ve been coping with an annoying cold for the last few days. I’m doing better now, but it had me nervous there for a little while. Feeling unwell now is no joke. Glad it wasn’t the you know what.

Hope you and yours are good.

Oh, the Disney trip is toast. So, I will not be missing any time during the draft. Thanks a lot Coronavirus, you inconsiderate prick.

In the selection thread is such an NFL throw.

I really believe Burrow is going to be a tremendous franchise QB.

The AFC North is going to be so fun to watch. I'm still rooting for Baker Mayfield to take the next step. I'd love to see those two battle with Lamar Jackson in Baltimore for the division.

And look, with Roethlisberger now on borrowed time in the NFL, the Steelers could be perennial cellar dwellers until they find a suitable franchise QB. Obviously, Mason Rudolph isn't going to be it.
Thanks Mike

I’m planning to update the spreadsheet with later rounds trades prior to the start of each new round
RD 1-6 of the spreadsheet should be up to date

Thanks for doing that. I wonder how fast this will go with all of the “remain at home” orders nationwide.
Hopefully not too quickly...

Thanks for doing this Matt.

Obviously we all need the distraction.

And, that trip to Portugal I mentioned? I will be here for the duration of the draft.

Stay safe.

Selection in for Washington
SirYesSir : 3/23/2020 10:29 am : link
no need to stoke any unrealistic dreams for the giants by not taking him
Of course
Amtoft : 3/23/2020 10:47 am : link
this is also a great pick. You are talking about the best player in the draft and a dominate force. Great pick and so said we won that OT game against Washington.
Debated a little between Okudah and Simmons
YAJ2112 : 3/23/2020 10:55 am : link
think both are in play in a trade down scenario for the Lions. Since we aren't trading, went Okudah.
First two picks go according to expectations
Optimus-NY : 3/23/2020 10:56 am : link
The Lions at 3 are the wildcard. The Fish are waiting at 5...
Simmons or OT1 for Andy
Eric on Li : 3/23/2020 10:57 am : link
i'd lean Simmons but I'd guess he goes OT.
C’mon Andy!
Saos1n : 3/23/2020 10:58 am : link
Riot until they allow trade downs in the BBI mock. Most of the fans here would sign the petition

Trade down all day long for me. But not allowed...
Andy in Halifax : 3/23/2020 11:46 am : link
so went defense. Yes, OT was considered (trade down and take Wills please) but Simmons is a potential elite defender and brings a much needed element of speed to the defense.

I do wonder a bit about where he'd fit with us but I trust the coaching staff to make it work.

Also considered Derrick Brown tbh (on top of the OT's).
Give No Trades
Trainmaster : 3/23/2020 11:50 am : link
Great pick Andy.

I doubt the draft will play out this way, with Miami getting at shot at all the QBs other than Burrow without trading up.
I agree.
Andy in Halifax : 3/23/2020 11:53 am : link
Even knowing Gettleman's aversion to trading down. I have a hard time believing one of Detroit or NY won't trade down. My guess is Detroit.
i'm with you Andy
Eric on Li : 3/23/2020 11:54 am : link
trade down is ideal but if this is how things play out and that's the choice, I go with the Simmons upside. Even if there's more risk the potential reward is too great.

I also think he's a little less risky than other tweeners because he's undeniably good in coverage and coverage is becoming so important in the game today. The guy ran a 4.38 at 6'4/238. Let him take away TE's and play a shallow CF role as a LB all day long and use his speed on the edge. Hard to see how he can't at least do those things at an extremely high level relative to other LBs.
Andy
MadPlaid : 3/23/2020 11:57 am : link
Good pick. Considering trade downs are not permitted, Simmons was the right pick at this point. He has the potential to be something special on D. If trades were allowed, then that is what I would hope Gettleman does there and during the real thing. I'm hoping for a small trade down and pick up a tackle. Seems to me, imho, it would be the wisest move to make.

SirYesSir : 3/23/2020 12:04 pm : link
Simmons is the "safer" pick over taking a tackle. He'd be the consensus defensive player at 4, especially in this scenario.

If DG takes a tackle, and the one he picks turns out to be the worst of the big four, he'll never live it down. Taking Simmons could always be defended

(that said, I still want a tackle)
Thanks Matt for starting this early

I'm with you. I want, and would pick an OT, but I don't see how anyone could be upset with Simmons instead (just like if someone wanted Simmons and we pick an OT). We have a lot of good choices. Its not like we are picking David Wilson out of nowhere again.

If allowed, would you have considered trading up? If so, what pick would you have targeted and what would have been a reasonable offer to you?
Miami’s Pick Is 5th Overall, Not 3rd
Trainmaster : 3/23/2020 12:31 pm : link
Miami would ecstatic to get Tua at 5th overall without having to trade up. Likely won’t happen on draft day.
Chargers pick
armstead98 : 3/23/2020 12:47 pm : link
Took Beckton, think Brown was the best player left by a lot but the Chargers really need a quality tackle.

Considered Wirfs as they could use help at guard too, but the upside of Beckton was too much to pass on.

Thought about Herbert too.

Panthers couldn't pass up Brown. They thought about QB for a second, but they may have a plan to address that. Brown gives them help on the DL where they sorely need it

Good pick. That's what I would do if I were them.

Their QB situation is interesting. Allen, Walker, and Bridgewater. Doesn't seem like they have a definitive long-term answer, but they have a lot of options, that maybe one works out..

Yes sir. I would have went to the Lions. Either 1st round pick would have been theirs for the choosing, but not both. I could have given them a 2nd to go with the 28th pick. I've got the 39th and 56th picks in the 2nd round as well for collateral. I'm rich beeeeyoch!
Typo
Optimus-NY : 3/23/2020 1:41 pm : link
I meant a 2nd round pick to go along with the 18th pick, not the 28th.

Dolphins have the most draft collateral in the NFL with 14 picks. They are as follows:

5, 18, 26, 39, 56, 70, 141, 153, 155, 174, 186, 228, 247, 252

Panthers makes sense as they signed Bridgewater, but not sure how the Chargers could pass on Justin Herbert and would bet no way they do.
