BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 3/22/2020 7:25 pm
We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the draft.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two-hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (i.e. Kansas City won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy.

Please utilize the BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-6) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible… Good luck!

Dude can fly, will be great in coverage on third downs.

He definitely has all the traits to be a great pass rusher but also has shown the ability to cover tight ends. The only knock on him is his weight and he could stand to pack on another 10-15 pounds.
I'm here for the fish at 141.
Optimus-NY : 4/1/2020 6:26 am : link
Anakim picks 140th. I'm teaching now. Will be free in two hours. I'll make my pick before 11 am New York time. I just need to gather my thoughts after a long day of teaching online first.
Ditto on Akeem Davis-Gaither
Matt G : 4/1/2020 6:40 am : link
Was #2 on my board at #107
Davis-Gaither
Mike in NY : 4/1/2020 6:57 am : link
Was on my short list as well at 134, but due to uncertainty about his injury I decided to take Taylor who I feel can fill a similar role but is healthier. In fact Taylor has longer arms, a slightly larger wingspan, and some of his combine and Pro Day numbers were insane. 6.96 3 cone, 4.49 40, excellent jumps at 228 pounds. At his Pro Day ran a 4.39 40.
I'm going to be here for my pick
Optimus-NY : 4/1/2020 9:00 am : link
Done with work....for now...lol.

Gonna make a two player board and pick one of those two since Anakim (Chicago) is the only one in front of me.
I heard from Anakim late last night
Matt G : 4/1/2020 9:22 am : link
So hopefully he checks in soon

No rush
Dolphins pick WR, Collin Johnson out of Texas with the 141st pick.
Optimus-NY : 4/1/2020 10:36 am : link
Good value and he'll help move the chains as well in the red zone. Tua will be happy in a deep WR draft to get someone like this in the 4th round. Dude is 6' 6". Dare I say, "Plexico-esque".
I'm around...
Chris in Philly : 4/1/2020 11:38 am : link

Some interesting names off the board lately
Mike in NY : 4/1/2020 11:49 am : link
I have at least one other person I was consdering at 134 for the Ravens still on the board. I kinda hope he falls to Andy as I think this player could also be a fit for the Giants based on how the rest of the Mock Draft has gone.
Seattle's pick
sjnyfan : 4/1/2020 11:56 am : link
is in
Eagles picks are in...
Chris in Philly : 4/1/2020 12:05 pm : link
and we address both lines. Khalid Kareem is a leader from a big time program. Not a pure athlete but has size and can be part of a strong rotation. Dotson is a swing for the fences. A punishing road grader from a small program that will need plenty of coaching. But the tools are all there. And with bonus picks in the middle rounds, we are looking to hit a couple home runs even if we strike out on one.
Gah!
Chris in Philly : 4/1/2020 12:10 pm : link
I wrote the wrong rounds. Alas...

I lack a 6th Round pick so my next pick will be my last before "UDFA" unless we add a 7th Round and even then I only have 1 pick in that round. That being said, I will stay around when I can to help Matt as this could not be accomplished without everything he does.
Based on the pace with which we are moving
Lionhart28 : 4/1/2020 12:38 pm : link
I think a 7th round makes a ton of sense. It's also giving me time to build out the bottom of my positional boards and familiarize myself with some middle and lower tier players.

With 7 Rounds and "UDFA" it would be interesting to see some of the names that get unearthed. That being said, it is a lot of work for Matt so don't want to make it harder on him. I am also cognizant that if we do it one year people will want in future years where we don't have the benefit of people being stuck at home reading BBI.
I'm open to hearing what the rest of the group wants
Matt G : 4/1/2020 1:01 pm : link
I would say that my only reluctance with the RD7 is broader fatigue from those who don't have their own 300 player boards (Colin's was only 150 at the time).

But moreso, there tends to be less overlap between our respective boards at this point in the draft.

This is why we initiated the UDFA after RD6 of first come, first serve for your Top 5 players. 1) It doesn't obligate those whose boards are tapped out, and 2) it gives those who are interested to get in their deep sleepers.

If others want RD7, I have no issue with facilitating. Another option could be to simply increase the UDFA pool from 5 to say 7-8?
With the Johnsons and Edwards gone since our last pick
YAJ2112 : 4/1/2020 1:01 pm : link
the Lions take the last of this tier of WRs on our board with Watkins. Hoping he continues making improvements to his game, and can learn to get some separation at the next level.
Why don't we do...

Round 7 and skip the UDFAs?
Skip the UDFA and do the 7th round instead

I am fine with boosting the number of UDFA's from 5 to 7 so those who want to participate can and we get more names especially since the Giants have multiple 7th Rounders and this exercise does help us know more names.
Speaking of the Giants

If a majority of people want 7th Round rather than UDFA
Mike in NY : 4/1/2020 1:22 pm : link
I can do that as well. Whatever people want I will make it work.
Nooooo not Evan Weaver....
Amtoft : 4/1/2020 1:30 pm : link
This is my favorite player in the draft. Literally watch every Cal game and he is everywhere. He will be amazing in the NFL and I thought I would get him in the next round. He isn't just a LB that gets in as the last guy to get a stat... he let the whole NCAA in solo tackles. He was a beast, high character, high leadership, and Cal will miss him next year. They have a stud next year coming out as well in Cameron Goode.
Had sights set on Khalid Kareem or Evan Weaver
Andy in Halifax : 4/1/2020 1:42 pm : link
But when I noticed K'Von Wallace still available I was fine with missing out on those two. I really want an edge rusher, but FS is a big need two and K'Von can play ball.
K'Von is my third pick that is 90+ percentile in SPARQ
Andy in Halifax : 4/1/2020 1:46 pm : link
Draft class would be bringing a much needed dose of athleticism to the team.

Optimus was on right before his pick but must have gone to gone to bed (given his timezone)... Since he has back to back picks, the second of which expires at 11am, we will wait for him to submit both

Thanks fellas. I was awake until minutes before Fatman picked. I'm 8 hours ahead of NY time. I literally passed out. Picks are in. I'm always around, so thanks again.

Thanks for understanding Matt. I had my picks ready, but my body literally shut down. It's been hard working online. I thought I could make it to Fatman's pick, but I knocked out without realizing it. The 8 hour time difference is a killer, but I'm around often, as you know per our emails. I pick again at 173 (last of three 5th rounders) and 185 (only 6th rounder). I'll be ready for both.
I picked back-to back at 153 and 154.
Optimus-NY : 4/1/2020 9:00 pm : link
Sorry for the delay. Knocked out. Brandon Jones is an intriguing safety prospect out of Texas and Raequan Williams is a good leader with strong leadership skills at IDL. Both guys are value selections who fit needs here. I'm waiting to pick again at 173 and see if some other guys on my immediate short list will last until then.

Thanks. The more I watched him the more I liked him. He moves really well for a guy's his size.

Could be an excellent complement to Saquon.

Apologies everyone for the delay earlier, got stuck in Zoom meetings.

Hey guys, great draft so far. Great pace, good discussion.
Andy in Halifax : 4/2/2020 7:56 am : link
I love learning more about the prospects as this goes on, and the differing opinions. More than once I pop over to youtube to look at highlights of players drafted based on your comments, its fun. It always makes the real draft fun too, knowing more about the prospects. The banter is always great too.

A much welcomed distraction for me too, just 8 days ago a friend from my fantasy football league passed away. Just 34 years old, a really nice guy and talented. Brain aneurysm, just passed out suddenly and never came back. Anyway, don't mean to sour the draft, just a note that this has been fun, a huge thanks to Matt and I am game to go 7 if that's what people want.

Sorry for your loss, Andy.

The mock draft has been a welcome distraction from this lousy pandemic. With no new sports going on, this has been a good substitute. Thank you to all the managers who have made this possible and definitely, Matt G.
The Viking's pick is in.

Parting ways with Linval Joseph creates an opportunity for Murchison to at least crack the DL rotation.
Jags select Asiasi from UCLA
Kevin in CT : 4/2/2020 9:17 am : link
Was sweating the last few picks as I had targeted Asiasi as the number one guy on my board. He has a ton of untapped potential and needs to refine is blocking skills. Has the potential to be a very good player for the Jags who need all the help they can get at TE.
Nice pick with Highsmith
Mike in NY : 4/2/2020 9:23 am : link
He was the person I mentioned that I was seriously considering at 134 but was also hoping Andy would take for the Giants. If he fell to 170 I would have had a tough choice since I already added Queen, Zuniga, and Taylor for the Ravens.
