BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 3/22/2020 7:25 pm
We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the draft.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two-hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (i.e. Kansas City won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy.

Please utilize the BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-6) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible… Good luck!

so went defense. Yes, OT was considered (trade down and take Wills please) but Simmons is a potential elite defender and brings a much needed element of speed to the defense.

I do wonder a bit about where he'd fit with us but I trust the coaching staff to make it work.

Also considered Derrick Brown tbh (on top of the OT's).

I mean the Giants are in good position. I would love to rip Andy's pick and trust me I have plenty of time left to do that with the rest of his picks... Probably the next one. However the Giants could go Okudah... Great top CB, I am happy... LB Simmons... Tremendous talent and athletic ability, I am happy... Any of the 4 OT all have upside and while I prefer Andrew Thomas, I am happy with any.

The only pick I wouldn't of been happy with and is a totally Andy pick is Derrick Brown! Seriously Andy he was on your list!

Good thing you are not the GM! Our OL is crap and you did nothing about it! Here comes the top pick in 2021! :)
Ugh! Pick 30 is taking forever to come up

I feel I have to make up some outrage to cope with the boredom. Hmmmmmmm? Okay!

Andy!?! Dang it man! Simmons was my guy. I was hoping he'd drop to the Pack at the bottom of the 1st. Or, to my pick in the 2nd round. You guys couldn't do that for me, could you? Couldn't think of my needs? Selfish mongos!! Yeah, Optimus, I stole your insult! Come at me, bro!!

Sounds like something Jerry Reese would do.

I am just glad there wasn't a good TE available.

Hahaha so true. He loves his TE's.

Andy has done a nice job over the years with his Giants GM role.

Nothing stopping you from starting one! That being said, he was last on yesterday morning so he likely doesn’t know you started. Might be worth sending out an email to those who haven’t been around today.

Kevin already picked you mongo!
Andrew Thomas is the pick
Kevin in CT : 3/23/2020 7:43 pm : link
Cam Robinson on last year of his contract and can possibly be moved to guard if need be.

I genuinely believe Thomas is the best OT in the draft and I'm happy to select him here. I did consider Wirfs but I think in the long run he's a guard in the NFL and Thomas has shown enough in his 3 years as a starter at Georgia and was a pretty damn good technician against some of the best defenses in the NCAA. He's teachable and if it all clicks for him, he will be a perennial pro bowler.
Son of a bitch
Lionhart28 : 3/23/2020 7:54 pm : link
Was hoping Becton or Wills, or at least Thomas fell to 10.
Austin Jackson at #10...
Torrag : 3/23/2020 8:02 pm : link
Ladies and gentleman we may have our first need/reach pick.

BTW I like Jackson but the Epenesa matchup showed how much core strength work he needs for the next level. He got worn down and pushed around in that game. It doesn't get easier in the NFL.
Cleveland with a slight reach at 10; Austin Jackson, OT - USC
Lionhart28 : 3/23/2020 8:03 pm : link
However, I am extremely high on Austin Jackson. He needs to continue developing strength but is a super easy mover. Will be able to step in day one and pass block in the NFL. Cleveland has a gaping hole at LT without a single NFL-caliber player at the position on the roster. In reality, I'd try to trade down here, but I can't be sure Jackson would be available at 41. He may have some rough days early, but I'd be surprised if he doesn't' end up as one of the top 2 tackles in the draft in 5 years.

I wanted to take Javon Kinlaw here for value but with Richardson and Ogunjobi at the DT spot, I couldn't pass on the obvious need.

\

I don't disagree with the assessment. Strength is the biggest area he needs to work on. Super high ceiling though. Look at Cleveland's depth chart. I can't even make an argument for another position though. I don't think Wirfs can play LT.
Austin Jackson might be a reach there
Jay on the Island : 3/23/2020 8:06 pm : link
but the guy has a huge upside.
Chaisson was in the running as well

Couldn't pass up the OT though.
Wow
Saos1n : 3/23/2020 8:09 pm : link

Damn
Jay on the Island : 3/23/2020 8:11 pm : link
with Tom Brady's arrival in Tampa I was hoping to land Tristan Wirfs at 14. The Bucs are all set at LT with Donovan Smith but they could use an ugrade at RT where Wirfs would slide in nicely.

IMO, this draft is an example of why we need to pick a Tackle
PatersonPlank : 3/23/2020 10:30 pm : link
at #4. All the good ones will be long gone by Rd 2, and we will be stuck with Gates at RT again
Gonna be a long wait for the Texans

Honestly did not want
Amtoft : 3/23/2020 11:00 pm : link
To select Justin Herbert but I think he is a stud and will be a top 6 pick at worst. He could go top 3. We have Carr and Mariota, but you don’t get a chance to draft a stud QB very often and so even though I had my mind set on two other players i had to select the best player on the board. Love that most people don’t watch as much Pac-12 football. Carr for one more year and then we are playing money ball with a low cost starting QB.

Saying that there are two players I have high high above others. I still almost took my player but just couldn’t do it.

Raiders with the major value pick at QB
Torrag : 3/23/2020 11:52 pm : link
I really like it. Move on from Carr who'll command a mega contract and you're still loaded with picks to address and upgrade the roster. For me Herbert is a Top 8 pick.
Great job by the Las Vegas (weird to say) Raiders picking Herbert 10th
Optimus-NY : 3/24/2020 12:33 am : link
I think the Chargers blew it at 6 not picking Herbert. They need a QB and he was there. A pretty good one too. The Brown reached at 10 too in my view.

Andy should have picked an OT at 4. I'm not exactly a fan of this tweener kid. He'll get his lunch handed to him by the more physical players out there. Not a good pick IMO.

Carolina got a monster, but they need a QB too. I would have chosen Herbert.

My guy is still there for me now...

I really like the RT from Georgia, Isaiah Wilson, who should be there in Round 2. What you are foregoing in Round 1 are the potential LT’s who at least have a high enough floor that they could contribute elsewhere even if not at LT.
"Isaiah Wilson, who should be there in Round 2"
Torrag : 3/24/2020 8:01 am : link
That's really not certain at all. Neither is having a Center like Ruiz.

We're in no position to play Russian roulette with the O-Line anymore. It's a cluster fuck that will impact our core guys like Jones and Barkley.

I would think by now people would have had enough. Reading the board it surprises me how many still want to take the chances and hope the 7th or 8th OT in this Draft is good enough...if we can even get him at #36.

Scary.
You dipshits all said I reached for Brown 2 years ago

You should have gone OT here Andy. Jones is gonna get killed. Protecting him and running the ball is priority one. This kid is not exactly Pat Swilling here you picked...

He will open up that offense.
Andy don’t take it personally
Rick in Dallas : 3/24/2020 9:49 am : link
Sometimes when players are closely graded by teams they may bend towards need. This OL class at the top is loaded.
Simmons adds speed to the Giants defense that has been lacking for years. He may be the first Giant defensive players that teams have to game plan for in years.
Take a deep breath bro

There's OT talent as good as Simmons in this Draft. I have no problem drafting Simmons just don't moan about it later when you're drafting Cleveland or Wanogho and next season is in the crapper before it begins. Haha.
Nice pick Pete

I want to rip on Andy but Simmons is a stud and an athletic freak. When is the last time we had a stud athletic freak on Defense? The only I got is by bypassing the top 5 OTs you basically left us with nothing. I have like 1-2 more decent OT left and you still need a center, WR, and Safety.
We took Carl Banks

with a steal! Kinlaw is a beast. I was afraid I was going to have to draft him at 19 even though the Raiders don't need DT and they I would have taken a QB and DT when I have more pressing needs and good players available. He was one of two players I had rated very very high at 12.

Agreed. Kinlaw is one of the reasons I would be okay with trading down to 12. Imagine him and Williams at DE and Lawrence at the nose. Tomlinson and Hill as more of rotational guys. Build like Philly where they can rotate DL all game long so they are not gassed in the 4th Quarter.
I'm a big fan of Kinlaw... And great value here, imo
Matt G : 3/24/2020 11:42 am : link
But I'm also curious to see what happens to him on draft day... He may fall due to the medical concerns... Possibly further than usual if teams aren't able to do their own evaluations... This could be true of a lot of players.
I really wanted one of the top OT’s
Jay on the Island : 3/24/2020 11:51 am : link
But that didn’t play out. CB is also a need but Kinlaw is just too good to pass up. He will be a nice big boost to their defense next to Vita Vea.
