BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 3/22/2020 7:25 pm
We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the draft.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two-hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (i.e. Kansas City won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy.

Please utilize the BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-6) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible… Good luck!

Giants will
XBRONX : 3/25/2020 5:24 pm : link
take their top C or ER at the top of round 2 not a WR.
Honestly this mock draft for the Giants has gone off the rails
Rick in Dallas : 3/25/2020 5:27 pm : link
In the real draft, Ruiz will be drafted in the first round. So if you were going to make a pick in second round why not look at helping the defense again.
I would have considered Marlon Davidson, Curtis Weaver, Terrell Lewis or Josh Uche.
Maybe at the end of the third round in this draft Biadasz or Hennessy will be available.
I think I'd have gone with Okwara, Lewis, Cleveland, or Wilson
Eric on Li : 3/25/2020 6:42 pm : link
the former 2 seem like potentially better values, the latter 2 more position of need but also possibly good value. Athletically both are on the level of the round 1 guys, obviously they aren't quite as plug and play though.

Some DB's may have been in the mix too between Gladley, Winfield, Jaylon Johnson, possibly even Ashtyn Davis.

If I felt strongly about 1 of the OL though that's the direction I'd have most likely gone.
interesting
Amtoft : 3/25/2020 6:52 pm : link
that D'Andre Swift was the pick. Don't get me wrong he is great, but I have him ranked pretty close with two other backs and I was curious who would come off the board first. I would have guessed Jonathan Taylor would go number after posting not only back to back 2000 yard seasons, but was 23 yards short his freshman year from being a back to back to back 2000 yard RB. Then came into the combine big and fast. The amount of carries may have been the scare off. Can't knock Swift though, but the injuries and ball security scared me more than the carries of Taylor.
Well
Boatie Warrant : 3/25/2020 7:13 pm : link
That was probably one of the hardest decisions I have had since doing this. Houston has several needs but if they dont shore up that O-line more Watson is going to get killed. They made some moves last year that helped but Cleveland seems like a good 2nd round guy that can help.

I like Cleveland... I was hoping that would have been the way Andy went, but he was like you know what the Giants truly need... Tavon Austin!
RE: RE: Well
Boatie Warrant : 3/25/2020 7:25 pm : link
Hahaha, thats funny. I am hoping one of the other 3 players I was considering falls to me at 57. Didn't think Cleveland had a chance of making it that far with the OT group thinning
I like a number of players still on the board
Lionhart28 : 3/25/2020 7:26 pm : link
Unfortunately most of them don't match up with our greatest needs. I think we can get some depth on the interior OL later in the draft and I am not crazy about any of the pass rushers. There are some outstanding corners and WRs available but some will also be available in rounds 3 or 4. We watched the film and despite his size, trusted our eyes and went with the undersized playmaker out of Minnesota.
I love
Amtoft : 3/25/2020 7:28 pm : link
Antoine Winfield Jr the few times I saw him. He was all over the field making plays. Very under rated player. He was a major reason that Defense was so good.

Me too. I actually think Winfield is the top S in this year’s draft. Had he fallen to me at 55 I feel like I would have had to pull the trigger even though Ravens don’t really need a FS

I've watched him quite a few times and he is just always around the ball. His 40 at the combine also put to rest an concerns about his speed. Cleveland signed Sendejo and Karl Joseph to 1-year deals but need some youth and talent in the back 7. Not only is this kid a playmaker, but he's a culture guy too, a real leader back there.

Jeff Gladney is the pick for the Jags
Kevin in CT : 3/25/2020 10:23 pm : link
Excellent cover corner who has the right mentality to be a shutdown CB even though he’s a bit undersized. Jags need a ton of help in the secondary and Gladney should help out from day 1.

Guys like Cleveland and Niang are 3rd rounders and you're plucking them at #40.

This is why the Giants are taking an OT in Round 1.

Well damn I thot Gladney would be a steal for me in the 3rd! He just isn’t talked about much but he is a really good cover corner. Great pick and that sucks he didn’t make it to me and sounds like he wouldn’t of even come close to the 3rd round

This mock is a perfect example of why you cannot ignore positional need, even in early rounds.

Cleveland is a high second rounder all day. Of
Course Andy passed on him but he is legit.

Not even close. His window opens, or should, at #60. Because a guy ran fast in his underwear doesn't get him in the 2nd round.

I agree on Niang. There seems to be a split on Cleveland. Some consider him a high 2nd Rounder and others more of late 3rd Round/Day 3. After the top tier of OT’s, Cleveland is the one player with the feet to play LT. The problem is his arm length is shorter than ideal and he really doesn’t play with enough power that can make you think he can move to another OL position if he can’t handle LT.
I'm with Torrag
Andy in Halifax : 3/26/2020 8:15 am : link
All these OL outside of Ruiz seemed like reaches to me. Which is why I want a trade down in 1 and grab an extra 2 so we can get OL and then pluck value with our day 2 picks. Everyone can disagree with me but OL at 4 is a bit of a reach too.

Not a good draft to get OL taken care of where we sit. DG will have to maneuver around imo. But it's easy, drop back a few spots in 1. Then it plays out just fine.

Also... Amtoft, you are out to lunch comparing Reagor to Tavon Austin. Austin was 5'9 174 while Reagor is 5'11 205. They aren't even close to comparable. A similar athlete for size and athleticism from the combine would actually be OBJ. But Reagor tested slightly better and was slightly bigger. ;)

for the Jets, but LeVeon averaged 3.2 YPC last year and definitely is on the back 9 of his career. Plus we saw what Adam Gase had to say about him to end the year.

Taylor if nothing else will be the best backup RB in football next year and will probably take the reigns in 2021.

I think most teams will have him slotted in the 2nd round but fro what I’ve read he could easily sneak into the end of the first round or because of his size he can be seen as a 3rd rounder.

Regardless, guys a competitor and I think he’ll be in the league for a long time.

Thanks! Even though I didn’t want to take a RB in Round 2 considering the Ravens have more holes than you would think based on their record last year, Taylor would have been by far BPA at 55

Neither of those guys are 3rd rounders. You will be surprised when they go early to mid 2nd round. It reminds me of last year when people said that Tytus Howard would go in the 3rd round and he ended up going 23rd overall.

Hopefully teams learned from that that you should not be overdrafting OL

Thegratefulhead : 3/26/2020 9:26 am : link
That pick at all. Neither the player or position. I would be very disappointed if the Giants select a little WR there. We have to get an OL in one of the first 2 picks the way FA played out for us.
Picked a Dlineman because Pitt
BigBlueDownTheShore : 3/26/2020 10:06 am : link
Likes to go heavy defense usually and the other players weren’t screaming draft me really in areas of need/rank.

I feel like I always draft dline men for Pitt lol.
Is anyone interested in

Another Mock draft. I am running one on my college teams board and we have 17 slots open and I really don’t want to draft for multiple teams.

Reply to this message to let me know.
I went with Cushenberry
Anakim : 3/26/2020 10:17 am : link
With Kyle Long's retirement, the Bears need another IOL. Germain Ifedi is not the answer. With Cody Whitehair, James Daniels and Lloyd Cushenberry, the Bears have a very formidable interior line.

Give me a couple of minutes.
Cowboys select Marlon Davidson
Rick in Dallas : 3/26/2020 10:38 am : link
Tough choice between Davidson and Kmart.
Davidson can play outside or inside.
He plays a violent game and has a terrific bull rush.
Surprised he was still available at number 51.
I meant Kmet

lots of players I liked when I picked. Dugger was the guy that just jumps out at you, physically and his on field play. Main critiques are level of play and things that I think could probably be chalked up to thinking he can do too much. Think with a year or two of NFL coaching he could be special and be an A+ special teamer out of the gate. Could also put up great numbers if he goes to a team willing to throw him in the fire and take some licks while he’s learning

I will take that best all day... He was 1st team MWC his soph and Jr year even though he played last year with turf toe. He will easily be a second rounder and he didn't just run, but also put up 30 reps on the bench. No way he falls to pick 90.

I said slightly thicker and not as fast. You take Tavon Austin and make him slightly thicker and slow him down and boom you have Reagor. He is a slot WR that needs to be used like a Tavon Austin. Really think that is what we need in our offense?

OBJ? Come on bro

I have always tried to keep in mind what I think the Eagles will actually do. I am convinced that they will take a WR in the first two rounds, and this kid has been linked to them for a while. The position is in transition. DJax is 33 years old and hasn't played a full season in years. Alshon is almost certainly gone. This kid models his game after DJax, and can fit in as an explosive slot WR and KR.
Baltimore Ravens pick is in
Mike in NY : 3/26/2020 1:48 pm : link
Since no one player stood out to me I figured I would go with the top rated player on my board. Overall, Pittman adds another dimension to the offense of the Ravens and I do like that he appears willing as a run blocker. Now to start thinking of names for Pick 60 as that selection will be here before I know it.
Ok
