BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 3/22/2020 7:25 pm
We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the draft.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two-hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (i.e. Kansas City won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy.

Please utilize the BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-6) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible… Good luck!

Ditto on this for me... He was amazing all year and that is with multiple different QBs playing starting throughout the year. I knew he would be a long shot to make it to me, but figured since he is Pac-12 and most are east coasters I had a chance.

Had Queen been off the board it would likely have been back to back Pac-12 players (Jaylon Johnson had been next on my list). I thought you'd know by now that I have no problems selecting players from the Pac-12!

Got my guy. I think Terrell Lewis will make a great addition to the Houston defense that needs new blood to rush the passer
I was a little torn at 56 for the Fish
Optimus-NY : 3/26/2020 6:47 pm : link
but after weighing the available options, Kindley made the most sense value-wise, need-wise, and from a strategic sense: I don't think Findley-types will be available at 70 when I pick again, but players at other positions which I am considering at 70 are likely to be. This is selection made with an eye towards the next one. I'm already targeting a player or two for that selection from now.

As far as Findley is concerned, he'll fit in well at Right Guard on the OL for Miami. He has his college teammate with him, in D'Andre Swift. He'll be happy to block for him again in the pros, along with another drafted linemate in Josh Jones, who I picked 26th overall. Tua should be in dececent shape protection-wise going into his rookie year.

Apologies for the lateness by the way fellas. I fell asleep with my laptop on. As stated above, I'm 8 hours ahead of you guys who are on the East Coast back home. I'm in Abu Dhabi where they have a curfew in place now for tonight and the next two days. Anywho, I'm ready to pick again at 70! Peace, love, and chicken grease.

Damn it. Wanted him at 60. Thought there was a better chance that he would fall than Pittman and thought the difference between him and my next Edge Rusher was smaller than Pittman to next WR.
I made the same kind of choice at 40
Boatie Warrant : 3/26/2020 10:14 pm : link
Was thinking of Lewis at 40 but figured he had a better chance of being here at 57 then Cleveland. Bet paid off in this case.

That's what the draft is about. Commodities trading and Valuation trade-off from one pick to another.

Back in 1997, the Giants strongly considered taking Tiki Barber with their first round pick. Instead, they chose Ike Hilliard and gambled on Tiki still being there for them in the second round. That worked out for them fortunately. These are the conundrums front offices face in preparation for the draft and on actual draft day/days. The real time decision making process is based on data as it goes and runs which have taken place and/or are projected to take place. I'd be interested to see how much impact data analysts have on this real-time process.

I knew I wanted to get a RB at some point because Ingram is 30 and has missed time in the past. Not overly thrilled with Edwards and Hill as the depth. The Ravens like to run the ball and if Ingram was to regress or get hurt they would be in a difficult situation. Normally I would have waited until at least the 3rd or 4th Round to select a RB because that is how the draft usually falls and the return on investment usually does not favor taking a RB in the first two rounds, but pick 60 is not far away from pick 65 (start of Round 3) and Dobbins was by far the top ranked player on my board even accounting for the relative value of RB position.
Optimus must be happy
Andy in Halifax : 3/27/2020 9:56 am : link
Two great values for him with Chaisson and Swift. Two of the better value picks so far imo. Plus he gets Tua at 5. I wasn't a fan of the Georgia interio OL at all but hard to complain about his draft. The kid from Houston is a very interesting prospect as well.
Dobbins is a good pick Mike in NY.
Optimus-NY : 3/27/2020 9:57 am : link
I liked him a lot. I would have been more than happy to "settle" for him if I had to. Fine player.

With the likely departure of Bulaga, and with Bakhtiari's contract up in 2021, I thought it wise to draft a solid OT prospect to help keep Rodgers upright. Sure, they signed Wagner to hold down the fort on the right side, but they still need a long term solution. Wilson is it. He can work from the right side, but has the potential to work from the left as well. Very happy with this selection so late in the 2nd round. Passed up some good WRs and TEs to select this guy, but I am hopeful there will still be some good talent available late in the 3rd.
Okwara is a good one

Donovan Peoples-Jones, WR, Michigan
Matt G : 3/27/2020 11:37 am : link
DPJ has been on my radar for a while. Did he underperform to expectations as a Junior? Yes. But... He was playing through injuries most of the season and Shea Petterson just isn't a good QB. I thought Harbaugh should have switched to McCaffery early in the season. DPJ's sophomore tape is far better and I'm more than willing to take a modest gamble at #65 that he plays up to his RD1 potential.

all due respect, I would hate WR in round 2. If we don't address OL with one of our first two picks...that would be really disappointing.
I hear what you are saying, I want OL too.
Andy in Halifax : 3/27/2020 1:07 pm : link
But have we all forgotten how terrible our defense was last year? It was embarrassing. Take a look at our WRs. We might have 2 semi-long term receivers that are good or better, and that is projecting Slayton to be good after his rookie season. We shouldn't bank on him being a stud, that would not be prudent. Tate is short term at best, the rest are unproven at best. That leaves Shepard.

We need defense, we need OL, we need receivers, we need edge rushers, we need DBs, we need... so so much.

We aren't fixing this in one draft, lets not fool ourselves. If DG sits there and picks for exclusively for need we should all want him fired.

Washington is down with AGG

WR and OL both heavy needs, went with the better prospect of the two groups.

Isaiah Wilson and Prince Tea Wanagho taken just ahead of me, so made the choice easy to go with this kid. It's a big leap to the nfl from Liberty, but he just feels like a star in the making to me

I picked up a Center at 70 for the Dolphins.
Optimus-NY : 3/27/2020 6:52 pm : link
I chose Tyler Badass 70th, despite his having had hip surgery. The Fish signed Ted Karras away from the Patsies to a 1 year 4 million dollar deal, but he's no long-term answer and he's nothing special. They need a long-term answer. Biadasz has it in him to be the answer. This is about where he belongs in the draft. The value and need match up.

There were two other players that I deliberated over, which is why I spent about 15-20 minutes longer picking than I thought. I was deliberating over who to take, and Biadasz ultimately won. I doubt either of those two players I deliberated over will be available when I pick 71 spots from now at Selection #141 near the bottom of the 4th round, but stranger things have happened. There's a slight chance that a particular player that I want is still going to be there at 141. If I'm lucky, he may, but we'll see. In the meantime, I'm done for a bit and will rest.

Tyler B has dropped a bit, but I think the Fish are a good landing spot for him. I've rebuilt the OL in this draft for them. He can sit and watch to start the year and then has a chance to get into the starting lineup when he's ready. It may even be better for him to watch to start and see how a veteran Center in Karras operates before playing. He has a his good friend and former Badger teammate, Michael Dieter, starting at Left Guard, so this is an added bonus. Tua has a running game and young OL to work with next year, which is priority one for rookie franchise QB.
Big fan of Halifax, NS...
CT Charlie : 3/28/2020 2:51 am : link
not a fan of the choice of position or player. We need defense more, but if we go WR in Round 2, then I'd take Pittman (6'4, only 5 drops in 176 career targets) or Mims (handsy, but he wins the fades) ahead of Reaghor as we've got depth at slot already.
Let’s keep this going strong
Mike in NY : 3/28/2020 12:57 pm : link
We started off well, but don’t want to lose the momentum. Lot of interesting names left. This definitely is a draft where having a lot of picks between Rounds 2 & 5 are more valuable than a late 1st

Clyde Edwards is the pick for the Jags
Kevin in CT : 3/28/2020 9:30 pm : link
Fournette is in his last year of his rookie contract and has had durability issues. Clyde would come in and instantly be an asset on passing downs and has the ability to carry a much larger workload if need be.
Browns desperately need depth at WR
Lionhart28 : 12:06 am : link
Landry works best out of the slot and who knows what’s up with OBJ. Claypool was on my radar in round two and is a physical specimen. He blew up the combine and probably ends up in the second round next month. The Browns couldn’t pass up the value here in the 3rd.

Good idea for the Saints.

I think Hurts is going to end up being the most successful quarterback in this class. Just has to go to a team smart enough to use him right.

Nice pick up. I looked at Claypool hard for my 2nd round selection. Ultimately decided to go with Wilson because of the limited supply of OL vs. WRs. Did not expect Claypool to fall so far into the 3rd round.

There are still a number of WR’s I like and I would have been happy to just wait, but when Pittman was on the board at 55 he was the last on a much higher tier.

My exact thoughts. However, if you find one you think is worth it, you take him. Like you did with Pittman. I have my eye on a couple I hope are still there at the bottom of the 3rd. This is definitely the year of the WR.
